Wow incredible swing. The writing is unbelievable. And the band plays effortless. Thanks Bob Florence, band and poster.

I dug this chart way back on an all night Jazz Show. I have heard Buddy play this so many time and it was great. And of course hats off to Bob Florence for writing this chart. Its one of those Big Band Jazz Charts that sounds just as great today as it did a long time ago. Sustain. This kind of chart Sustains the test of tine

This song is on the "Jewels" album. This whole album is spectacular. Bob Florence is a total icon in jazz composition and arrangements. His music can lift you to beautiful heights. No one like him.

This recording is better than the Buddy Rich band's on Big Swing Face.

Both recordings are great. Bob Florence’s has the advantage of being a studio recording (you can hear the chord voicing better) a revised chart and top notch studio players. Buddy Rich’s version has all the energy of a live recording with nice musical nuances in the brass and saxes. I love both of them.

I saw this band at LACMA in downtown L.A. before its disintegration. Now you don’t go near downtown…Great band. I remember Bob talking about how Buddy played his charts and he said he was pleasantly surprised at how Buddy’s interpretation was different than how he imagined it but he loved it. Buddy oftentimes would play a chart a little more “up” than the tempo called for and it made you sit up and take notice. This remained in the book until his death…

Umm…no. This is clearly Bob Florence Limited Edition playing Willowcrest with an alto solo by Lanny Morgan.
Willowcrest on the Buddy Rich album, Big Swing Face, featured Jay Corre on tenor.
Bob Florence wrote both renditions of Willowcrest.
