De Badging and removing excess chrome from a Silverado
Вставка
- Опубліковано 7 жов 2024
- When I bought the UglyTruck 2000 Silverado there were a ton of aftermarket chrome accessories stuck all over the side, like fake fender vents, running boards, chrome vent visors, euro chrome tail lights, and ugly stock steel wheels, basically anything you could get at the chrome aisle at the local pep boys or autozone. This time I cover de-badging, removing stickers, and use some off the wall techniques you can use to improve the appearance of a NBS Silverado of just about any car or truck for little to no money. Plus, it gets some new wheels.

Making steady progress on this build, cant wait to show you guys what is coming up next!
I removed all the badging and trim from my 2011 Silverado. I love the look.
Rhino lined my bed of my 2004 Silverado when it was new and bed still looks perfect today. It’s worth the money
Love the Factory wheels... wish i could find em' for less than a grand around here.
One thing i would do to the outside is give it a good buff job to make that paint shine again.
I am working on a 2005 Cat Eye myself
yeah, a good once over with the buffer would do wonders for sure! A lot of people have these wheels around TN for a couple hundred bucks
I have the same wheels on my ‘00 truck! Something you probably already know is you can put the front calipers, brackets, and discs from a newer GMT 800 to get 1” bigger and swap the SUV rear discs on the back as a cheap factory brake upgrade. That’s why I had to go to 18s.
Awesome vid. Agreed on the OEM wheel theory.
hard to go wrong with a stock wheel, as long as you find a good style. there are plenty which dont look so good as well...
@@LawrenceTolmanbro did u use the stock lug nuts I have the same rims and want to put them on my 02
love the traffic in the background while the bald eagles are let loose with the 1 wheel peel
Also just noticed you changed those god awful tail lights! Those OE 04 and up tail lights make a HUGE difference IMO. Very Nice.
yeah, had to get rid of those for sure
Pb blaster works well for removing the glue from badges
Another great video LT. The truck is already looking 100X better IMO. Never been a fan of too much chrome. A little here and there isn't too bad. But I prefer body coloured components (grille, mirrors, door handles, etc). "Mono chromatic" I think is what they call it. Those wheels were a great choice! Although you should pick up some GM covered wheel nuts, again just my opinion. Keep the awesome videos coming!
thanks! yeah, I will track down some of the covered lugnuts for sure, and I agree, it does look a lot better. Also good catch on the tail lights!
Dude thank you for recording this build I just got a 2000 Silverado and wanted the same look. You make quality content too bro nice work!!!
I appreciate that!
That looks amazing LT - excellent job.
thanks so much!
Great improvement to the ugly truck. Not so ugly!
New digs? Clearly I missed something!
Love the look! I was sitting here hoping for some tail lights the whole time, looks like you got those too! Nice vid man
The BP Hero yeah, couldn’t stand em either. A good stock set looks way better
I had steel wheels on mine. Recently FaceBook marketplace is a better place to shop for this type of stuff than Craig’s List. I found this same wheel with tires for $400 there. Now I need to sell 2 sets of wheels.
Excellent work. Looks great
This guys awesome👍
thanks!
Awesome!
thanks man! having a blast making these
Funny how different peoples taste can be. I spent hours stripping the plastic chrome doodads off my free Escalade too. Sad thing is the previous owner went on about how much she loved chrome had plans to add more! Almost felt bad.
some one has to keep PepBoys in business lol.
Thank god you got rid of that ugly chrome junk.
Great choice on the wheels. Makes it looks tons better. What about the chrome mirror caps?
Eric Wood yeah, debating what to do about those. I don’t mind a little chrome here and there, but they may get blacked out
Looks so much better I hate chrome too. Take the chrome off the mirrors too. You still working at the power block?
yep!
Awsome truck and what you have done with it from beginning till nows...any rubbing after upgraded wheels install prior to drop...looking into those for my 07 cat eye myself
Missed a spot... chrome side mirror.
When operating rotary tools, should you be using safety glasses?
do the rims rub? no spacers or lift?
no rubbing at all, they bolt right on, no spacers. Clears pretty good with a 2/4 drop
@@LawrenceTolman might go from 16s on my 04 to 17/18/20s thanks!
What size are tires? Look great!
265/60/18 as of this video
I personally would have left the middle of handle chrome
Can you tell me about the rims please
Sure would expect to see brakes much higher on this series after fixing the trans. Adding performance or appearance stuff before that does not make sense.
C'mon, I know you've used a heat gun before - how to remove emblems. Then you use a torch at 2:45?!? This truck was obviously owned by a hispanic person, as they put chrome "accents" on every possible open surface - they love chrome! Oh, you missed a spot. Haha! Sideview mirrors are still covered in that same stick-on crap. Definitely an open dif, by the single black line. The wheels DID improve the look.
Of course I have used one before, but actually don’t own one lol.
I cringed when the truck wobbled back and forth on the jack. Safety first guys. Take it from someone who has had a jack fail. Jack stands save lives.
What did u use to clean where the fenders where at thinking of doing all mine
What spray was it i just took mine off there’s like dirt scratches and some dry paint if u can respond idd appreciate it.
In my opinion the cat eyes sliverado's are the ugly trucks
LT,
Any fitment issues with going from 17” stock wheels to 2014 18” wheels? Is there any speedometer correction with the slightly larger slower rolling 18” wheels?
no significant issues, it was all very close, but I had updated the tune file to reflect the new size shortly afterwards

Thanks.
What year
The title of the video should be, "removing the Mexican chrome from the ugly truck."
