1) No, the editor librarian allows for software control of the R3's parameters but it won't run as a virtual instrument.
2) Yes, you can edit all parameters of the R3 in realtime.

I have one, it has audio in thru functionality and the gooseneck microphone is plugged in using an xlr mic input that you could plug any mic cable into.
I really enjoyed your demo more than all others.

Whats the best was to record it do you know? Via USB or Line in I have this cable with two amp leads one end and line in at the other, I also have a sound card at the back of my PC if that helps!

You'll want to take the 1/4 inch line outputs of the R3 and connect them to the 1/8 inch line input of your PC's soundcard. The USB connection on the R3 is only for transmitting and receiving MIDI data. Please feel free to contact me with any other questions or concerns.

@selfade the included microphone is for vocoder onley. and the korg r3 does not have a microphone input

Easy. First you need to install drivers / software. Switch on your KorgR3 and start the R3 Editor. You'll get blank window, so click File->New and you will see empty slots. Then go to MIDI->Rec All Data all your sounds setting from R3 will be in your computer. Click twice on one of the sound and that's how magic happen. You'll get nice editor where you can control every little detail of sound.

1 question though. When you change the arpeggiator tempo with the dedicated knob, does any of the screens read out the actual value?
You are correct in that a guitar amp will not be able to reproduce the lowest frequencies from the R3. You'd probably want to roll off the low end either coming from the keyboard, or through the amp's onboard eq. It's certainly not ideal, but I don't think you'd damage the speakers on the guitar amp unless you left all the bass in and really cranked it up. Thanks for your input!

Does the vocoder let you record a clean version of your voice and allow you to control the pitch via the keys? I'm asking because the only options for real-time pitch control are digitally tethered via a PC or something like that. To have it in one system that doesn't require a second-party system to work would be awesome.
Add in the amazing synth you get out of this thing and I would probably be very interested in getting one at some point.
Can you tell me how to get the vocoder to work? I just got one and when I talk into the mic, no sound comes out
I own an R3, so maybe I'm a bit biased…but I like it much better because of the Radius synth engine and full size keys. Thanks for watching!

hi.can i load my sounds of my korg prophecy to this one?
I'm really interested in getting one, mainly i want to use it for key bass. i know it has good synth bass sounds, but does it have a nice clean electric bass sound?
Can we buy the editor librarian seperately? My friend let me borrow the R3 and his x50 for the month, but if I like the software I might buy one of 'em-

Ok, Thanks there are two 1/4 size cables one with a red ring and one with a white, on the other end is the line in 1/8.
So I am going to plug the 1/4 cables in to the Right and Left Mono outputs in the KORG R3 and the line in 1/8 cable in to the line in on the sound card right?
I am a total nooby so I would just like a bit more clarification :)
I guess the R3 will work recording in audacity if I just plug everything in correct?

So let me ask you if you go in and change the sound can you save it as a new patch or favorite? and while working on a song and I was to change I would have to save it in order to keep the sounds otherwise it will go back to the default? correct?

@kraftmusic out of curiosity, can the vocoder setting be used with all of the presets, or just the presets in the 'vocoder' bank?
I have a question, is it possible to edit and create arpeggios using the Arpeggiator like you can on the MicroKorg? Or could you only use the arpeggios that are preset on the synth?
hi there great review, I am going to purchase a korg r3 tomorrow. What software works best with the R3? I do not want to use garageband on my mac and I would like to record an album with the tunes i make on the korg. What do you suggest?

Hi I would like a synth to add authentic real sounds to my recordings, I record my guitar bass and drums but I would like to add synth, I am a complete novice on keyboard but they are pretty fun, would this be a good buy?
can i plug in a midi controller to further mess with this??

@gerbercik: Definetely R3, R3 and XL are like small radias, but R3 us just better, and microkorg is like ms2000, so here you decide

I dont have a computer. But can I do all the fun things you're doing without a computer. I have a yamaha full keyboard and my band does some songs that require more fun sounds.

I see a major flaw in the design, though, that I guess will irritate many musicians. The function knobs are placed on the right side, so (unless you're left handed) you might have problems tweaking and playing at the same time. Otherwise a nice sounding little machine.

There is no question - go for R3 - better keyboard.
