Watching this video is like downloading high-density information directly into your brain. Elizabeth's density and clarity of language are spectacular - well done!

Elisabeth knows better about China than some of the other fellows in HI, in terms of policies and incidents happening in China. While her opinion is kind of biased and negative generally, it’s her perspective I respect and I disagree in some aspects.

For Hong Kong situation, it's very easy to understand: Will US allow foreigner spies and secret agents to act freely in its territories? The US is even asserting Chinese journalists are agents, and restricting their visas. It's not about freedom or democracy, it's more about national security. Will US allow CA or TX to vote for independence? Why UK is still grabbing North Ireland and Scotland even though they want to be independent? When UK colonized HK, Hong Hong people were not even allowed to be involved in Politics, the governors of HK were assigned by the Queen! Now people wants democracy in a few years, how long did US take to allow black/women voters?

Wow! When will we address the terrible human rights regarding the Falun Gong practitioners and the Uighurs? Organ harvesting. Our we to think we should remain friends to a country that has these policies?

    1) Caption: "Belton..." should be "Belt and Road Initiative". Was that done robotically?
    2) Liz needed to elaborate more on why Hongkongers came out to demonstrate - it's all due to China's provocation to force their "Law" on to the Hongkongers. In Liz's presentation, the China government seemed to have reasons being tired of the "social unrest and disrespect to the government" and then violating its signed agreement with the U.K. The THURGGISH NATURE of the China government needs to be emphasized.
    3) Also, Chinese people's decades-long sufferings should be brought out - by simply listing some statistics of death tolls caused by the CCP government - during the starvation following the Great Leap Forward movement and the Great Culture Revolution -- not to mention the REAL death toll of Wuhan virus pandemic which, I am certain, exceeds a million in China nation-wide -- far more than that in the United States.

Boy, I wish govt had such harmonious clarity. Having been outta touch for 10yrs I didn't think the world was so far along in this process. Ping's timeline is right on the money.

Great interview! One caveat: China is already the world's largest economy; the US is in second place, and this has been the case since 2014. As Elizabeth Economy said there is a lot of disagreement about China's economic statistics, so one can't really be definitive that China surpassed the US in real GDP on a purchasing power parity (PPP) basis in 2014 rather than 2015 or 2016, but there is no doubt it was the larger economy in 2019, when, by IMF estimates, its real GDP was 6% greater than the combined real GDPs of the United States, Mexico and Canada.

I have a feeling that anyone listening to these discussions is familiar with the Hoover Institution and don't need to listen to the same introduction every time you make a video. Please remember that you have a certain amount of time to grab the audience so get to the point and start the discussion. Leave the background info in the comments. Don't make this about the Hoover Institute. Make it about the video and the guest. The information you provide is important. Let it speak for itself.

If you look at the policy level, China has done similar things that the US is doing, for example, lock down cities, quarantine policies, and solve employment problems. Of course in a more effective and strict way. People should look at China from an unbiased perspective, without pre-judging with his/her established ideology.

In CPP nearly 100years history, no leader like Xi held 3 powers (nation, CPP, military) together, even Mao never done it. It is risky for such a concentrated power in one person for a so large country.
