You are correct! Fernando, Lewis etc can drive around the problems. However, drivers won’t develop to that extent It’s called dynamic fluids, designers design such as to ensure the system always safely returns to equilibrium. Good feedback gives engineers specific problems, rather than general car dynamics. Drivers correct behavior. The Chief designer/engineers are the ones responsible for the drop in performance.
I loved Caroline's question about how Ollie's points will roll over in the WDC! I never thought of that going from sub for Ferrari to Haas (allegedly!) such an awesome crossover! New top favorite podcast episode for sure!!!
Keep seeing this weird stat all over the place. Leclerc is number 16, won race number 16, pitted on lap 16 and the time he crossed the finish line in Monza was 16:16.
I was really happy when Lando won in Miami, but ever since Austria, I’ve been really put off by his behavior and the way he’s been disrespectful to the other drivers. I think Lando is also eating his words about Max and Lewis when he would chalk their records up to having to fastest car. But now that he has one he realizes that it isn’t that easy and feels caught out/defensive when he can’t convert like they did. It’s a lot of pressure and I don’t think he’s handled it well.
Hi Fan Behaviour, This is the part where I admit that I am a Gen-X F1 fan. Having been an F1 fan (and McLaren fan) since Niki Lauda in 1984. It may surprise you to know that the teams with the most WDC in F1 history are: 1) Ferrari 2) Williams 3) McLaren Ferrari have been in F1 from the beginning in 1950. McLaren and Williams have only been around since the 1970s. Michael Schumacher was the Lewis Hamilton of the 90s and 2000s. He won 2 WDCs with Bennetton then moved to Ferrari with the dream team of Ross Braun & Co, ostensibly to return Ferrari to former glory. But... This Finnish guy, Mika Hakkinen ("the Flying Finn") spoiled the coronation for 2 years. Mika Hakkinen was driving a McLaren with a Mercedes engine. No one, at the time, was better than "the Michael." Except for Mika Hakkinen. In 2008, a young F1 rookie in a McLaren Mercedes showed up his teammate, Fernando Alonso, and nearly won the championship in his first season. He ended up winning it in his 2nd season. Lewis Hamilton. This IS the real McLaren that I grew up with. The McLaren of the 2nd Alonso residence and the whole Honda, then Renault fiasco was not the norm. Between Lotus, Williams, and McLaren most of the engineering innovations in F1 can be attributed. Carbon Fibre Monocoque Wings Ground Effects Even when they have had winning cars, McLaren have made some facepalm moves. That is also part of the McLaren DNA. Don't know how I feel about Zach Brown as a person and some of the people he associates with, but he has certainly been a wise steward of McLaren. He's made some mistakes and had to backtrack a few times, but he has assembled the right people and gotten out of the way at the right times.
It is more of a Ferrari victory than a loss for McLaren. Had Oscar pitted earlier it is very likely that he could have been caught in traffic for a longer period. Also he would have eaten his tyres had he pitted earlier.
Actually Lando was one of the first drivers to congratulate Charles on his victory. When asked by Rosberg Lando and not Oscar credited Ferrari/Leclerc for their victory. Oscar was not gracious enough.
I’ve notice that Lando never sprays the winner 🥲 he used to be in my top three but the little things like this are kind of upsetting and poor sportsmanship
Everything you need to know about Lando and Oscar is in a comparison. If Max would have been in Lando's Spot and Lando in Oscar's how would that overtake have worked? Indeed it wouldn't Max would have pushed Lando of the track making sure his competitor would have take damage, loss of places or not being able to continue even if that had meant the same for Max. That is why I do not like the overtake Psychologically this I think goes even deeper. I think McLaren sees Oscar as the future nr 1 of their team with Lando a nice backup or replaced. That is why they are so reluctant to call driver order in favor for Lando. I mean if I being a casual Max fan could see the need for team orders when the Red Bull is performing badly they should have as well. It is not only the points till the end but Red Bull could find the leak and get back to solid 3th places at the end of the season making all those non team order lost points crucial. Currently compared to Oscar Max is +106 and Lando +44. Now forget the fastest lap because if Red Bull is smart that should be Sergio each time now unless Max has it and they do not think one of the others can get it. Sergio will switch to softs last 2 laps to take those points. If the Podium for the coming 8 races and 3 sprints is Oscar, Lando, Max then at the end of the season it will be Max at 441, Oscar 421 and Lando 406. Change Lando to nr 1 and Oscar to nr 2 and Lando will end the season with 465 and be world champion. I do not see why McLaren would take that risk unless as I stated before there is the need to make Oscar feel the nr 1 regardless of consequences.
i LOVE oscar piastri's style. it's so aggressive and yet so clean. his outside overtakes are *chef's kiss

38:25 Jonathan Wheatley was quite key in overseeing things like that, now he's not on the pit-wall anymore...

My man Mark will not have Oscar settle for no.2 driver he lived multi 21 (Team Seb - sorry mark) Aussie Grit has made a champion :)

This year, he's only ever not sprayed the winner in Hungary and Monza
