I'm sorry you had to go through that. I think Alzheimer's is one of the cruelest diseases out there. It robs you, not only of your loved ones, but of their memories of you. My best friend's Mother died of Alzheimer's and I was with her the first time her Mother forgot who her daughter was, and I saw how devastating that was. That's why that moment, at the end, when Coco remembered her daughter and called her by name hit so hard.

@@positivenegativeten same for me. My Dad died just a couple months before this came out from dementia. Music brought him back to moments of clarity and the only thing he wanted in the end. He laid in bed for hours listening to all his favorite songs. I also didn't know what this movie would be about and left the theater completely wrecked.

It doesn't matter how many times I see the scene when Migielito sings to Coco, I always cry. I can't help it. My mother used to be a music teacher, and during the last years of her life, she suffered from Alzheimer's. When I sang to her, she would wake up and sing, and if I made one mistake in the lyrics, she would correct me. She dies in 2017 after battling cancer for like the 3rd time in her life. Coco is very special for my family.

I wanted to point out one special detail at the ending. It's one of my favorites.
Hector seems to be walking more firmly and isn't shaking as much as he did when he met Miguel. Now that he isn't forgotten and not fading away/"dying," he's much better now and more stable. His clothes aren't ripped and torn.
And notice that when Hector is crossing over with his family the following year, he's wearing shoes. :)
They made those for him and finally accepted him back into the family after all those years.

My Dad died when I was a kid. Forgetting a loved one happens. I have maybe a couple of personal memories of him, the rest is 2nd hand knowledge, and that's okay.
Watching this movie as an adult helped me make more of an effort to talk to my son about who his Grandpa was, from the stories I've heard.
So, Please share your stories with little ones. Not only are you keeping a person's memory alive, but you're also helping a young person understand who *they are* as a person and where parts of their personality or physical features come from.💜

If it helps your grandkids, my family always had, what we called, a "costume" closet or tub full of different clothes and accessories that used to belong to the older family members.
(OMG the fashion trends of their time.)
My neices and nephews would play in the clothes and someone would mention, "That was Papa's" or "I remember wearing those!".
Looking back, us kids playing with old clothes was the "ice-breaker" at family get togethers, cause the outfits the kids put together are hilarious.

Part of the reason I love doing family research is so our forgotten family members can be rediscovered and their stories can be passed down and remembered. I think it's partly for selfish reasons such as me not wanting to be forgotten, but part of it is because some wonderful stories weren't passed down as they should have been and I feel it's my duty as their descendant.

I've read that mama coco was a real old woman, who died at age 109. Pixar got the inspiration from her for mama coco's character . Pixar has denied that, but the woman's family are convinced otherwise.
Her name was Maria Salud Ramirez Caballero.

    • @hueyitlahtoani9242
      @hueyitlahtoani9242 11 місяців тому +7

It’s not true, the Film Crew mainly went to Oaxaca for their inspirations and even had a behind the scenes where they would sketch the people in Oaxaca, from kids to adults. The woman you are referring to is from Michoacán which is pretty far from Oaxaca. A lot of the movie is inspired from things the crew came across in Oaxaca. The idea of the shoe shop was inspired from a Oaxacan shoe shop they visited, the wooden alebrijes were also inspired from Oaxacan Folk Art, the song la llorona is a Oaxacan song from the isthmus of tehuantepec. Also the majority of elderly indigenous women in Mexico look exactly like mama coco, my own grandmother looks like her. With all this in mind, I truly doubt that she was the inspiration of mamá coco since the crew showed and said where they got their inspirations from and credit much of it to Oaxaca.

This movie always gets me, not least of all because Mama Coco bears a striking resemblance to my late grandmother who passed a few years ago a few months short of her 100th birthday. Although my family never celebrated Dia de Los Muertos (northern New Mexico area rather than Mexico proper) there’s a lot of similarity culturally especially with the importance of family and the veneration of ancestors. I can look at Miguel’s family and see my cousins, aunts and uncles in them.

When Pixar was first beginning they had a contract with Disney for distribution. When Bob Eiger became CEO he brokered a deal and Disney then bought Pixar and made some of the heavy hitters heads of Disney animation which revitalized the brand. When both studios started raking in the cash Disney then bought Marvel followed by Lucasfilm and most recently 20th Century Fox and they are all under the Disney umbrella. Another movie that Pixar released that had the audience ugly cry in the theater when I saw it was Up. I would also recommend Disney's Encanto where all the music is by Lin Manuel Miranda.

Today they are called The Xolo dog but the full name is Xoloitzuintli. Some also believe there is a connection between the Xolo dog and The Egyptian God of The Underworld ANUBIS. If you take the Xolo dog and compare it to drawings and the statues of ANUBIS they look exactly alike and on totally separate continents. The Xolo dog in Mexico and ANUBIS in Egypt. Here in Ecuador we don't say Day of the Dead, we say Day of the Dead, and we have been celebrating it for centuries. The indigenous people of Ecuador have honored their dead since ancient times. When the Spaniards arrived and introduced All Saints' Day, which is celebrated on November 1, the locals made this holiday their own. All Souls' Day, as it is celebrated today, is therefore a combination of Catholic religious celebrations and indigenous traditions.
The government decrees a holiday on November 2nd every year and all over the country a colada morada is made with Guaguas de pan, just yesterday 2/Nov/2023 people go to the cemeteries to visit their relatives, taking with them any kind of food to later sit next to a tombstone with the whole family to eat.
It is understandable that Mexico being in North America is more related to the film industry and many other things in the USA and therefore stands out more, but that's ok, anyway it is nice to see a Mexican brother receiving recognition. Greetings to all from 🇪🇨

It makes me happy to see that Coco has had an effect on so many people. It really is the best Pixar movie and hits hard in the feels. I was at EPCOT watching Luminous and they have a duet of remember me and when somebody loved me and wow, take Annie a tear jerking moment

I’m a 34 year old and I love both! Grew up watching it my whole life and even got into an disagreement with my friend because she said I had to heal my inner child sense I love Disney so much. I was like girl your tripping. I had a wonderful childhood and that’s why I love Disney. It always heartwarming. I love my zombie movies and all but come on Disney just makes my heart smile.

Out of the songs in this movie, my favorite is "Un Poco Loco", which translates to "A little crazy". I love how they animated this movie and wrote the songs, on top of honoring Mexican culture and customs. (Despite me DESPISING Ernesto De La Cruz, even before learning of his villainous nature). It's *IMPOSSIBLE* to avoid crying while Miguel is singing "Remember Me" with Mamá Coco. Being Mexican-American, what makes this movie so special to me is the concept of family. On my family's ofrenda, one of the pictures we put up is of my paternal grandfather Marcelino. He died when I was in 8th grade (2005) and even now in 2023, going into 2024, it messes me up with emotion. Every day, I wish I could see him face-to-face one last time, give him a big hug and tell him how much I love and miss him. 😢😢😢😢

This movie is everything to me because it relates to how it is in Mexico since im on vacation in mexico enjoying spending time with family and friends, the way they made the houses is very realistic! But the thing i love the most of this movie is the music, it makes me very emotional when hearing music in sad scenes since it makes you realize we have limited lifes. Plus the scene when louis breaks Miguel's guitar relates to how mexican moms get mad at small things like mine, I know they do it because we want you to not be disrespectful or anything but it hurts since we don't support you :(

55:55 knowing the context just made me almost roll my eyes hearing him start up Remember Me, especially because that's not the written tempo
    9:16 lol _stooop_ it's a _cognate_ 😩
10:47 lol it's like they can't see emotions
12:08 even he at least took the photo from Miguel and listened a bit, and tried to stop his mom from destroying his guitar
16:18 on his _dentist's_ ofrenda, I love that
    lol PepITA
    25:07 heh
26:08 ohh the stories- I didn't remember that
    28:56
33:42 If you isolate the scene? This is so dang sweet
34:17 theres that reason he doesnt think of it first
35:07 ah right and there was Hector earlier like "greatest musician? lmao"
    42:26 maybe the initial leaving
    45:29 oh
51:18 I'm gonna cry every time I swear
51:40 She's glad she doesn't have to turn him down, for once.
Someone has also mentioned before that the way he moves is now less degraded, his clothing is no longer torn, and... _shoes_ .
Throughout the duration of the movie, while being shunned by his family who didn't know the truth, Hector didn't have shoes.

I had the privilege to view this movie at a holiday screening at Pixar animation studios in Emeryville, CA. When the guard let me into the compound after I told him I was there for the Coco screening, he asked me if I brought tissues because I would be needing them. Lol he was right, such a great movie!

This is what I love the most of the day of the dead. Most of the world always sees death as a final, scary moment, but in our culture, death is seen as another stage we shouldn’t be afraid of and that as long as we keep the memories of those we love, they also will be with us. The day of the dead isn’t about mourning, it’s always been about celebrating the life of those gone. I’m glad people see a bit of what it means through this movie, it’s always bitter sweet to say goodbye but we’ll be together again with this who left sooner someday. Loved the reaction! The plot twist mannnn I remember being shocked too, not m*rder in a kids movie LOL
