What a beautiful chateau! You have a wonderful adventure before you if you take your time, live in it for a while before making any major decisions or changes, and consider it a continuous work in progress. The first step is your safety & make sure your roof & chimneys are in good working condition. God Bless! ❤️🙏
Agreed. We had have almost a year before we could get our hands on anything and the final product looks more and more clear to us, since we are constantly thinking of steps we need to take, and what we would really like to see happening there.
How wonderful that you have so many bedrooms, you can clean and use one side of the chateau while working on the other side. Congratulations on finding such a beautiful home, I hope you and your children are very happy there.
That’s the plan. But we might go by floors, not sure yet. It’s overwhelming for sure so will start with smaller things before we learn the big stuff. Thank you for your kind message.
I just happened upon this video and really enjoyed it. You are a natural and you have a very calm, soothing voice to listen to. It looks like much cleaning and restoration to do, but it will all be worth it. The kids will have very special memories growing up here. No need to reveal your location or background or if so very minimal. I notice other chateau owners make a point of not sharing the actual layout while doing virtual tours too. Looking forward to your progress. Cheers from Vancouver Canada.
Thank you for an introduction to your new home. It’s beautiful and filled with possibilities. The pecan colored library is wonderful…I would opt for leaving it and not darkening the wood….but it’s your home not mine. I’ve never seen fireplaces and mantles underneath windows? First time for that.
Wouldn't the third floor have been the servants' quarters? That sink in the hall was probably for filling things like mop buckets. That stained glass in the stairway is gorgeous! You have some major work ahead of you, and I'm sure it will be a wonderful adventure. Buying and restoring/renovating a chateau in France seems to be quite a trend lately, at least on UA-cam! Wish I had the physical ability or the family team to do it. What a wonderful gift to give your children! That would be a wonderful place to grow up. It looks like any roof damage has been fixed, so at least that's a major structural concern out of the way. Now it's just a matter of plugging and repairing all the other leaks in the exterior structure, then undertaking the interior. One step at a time is how most people are undertaking their chateau projects. Those markets and the baked goods look amazing! Looking forward to seeing more of your journey!
It's important to learn French if you live in France,,, also for having correct relationships with local people,, and also learn the way of life,, specially in little villages.
Beautiful chateau!!! What is the name of your Chateau? You are going to have such a wonderful adventure remodeling this chateau.I love the staircase. Once you put lighting in this area, you will see the beauty more. The outside ornate decor over the windows and doors, give a beautiful WOW factor to the building. Lady bugs eat insects that are destructive in gardens. Congratulations, I will be following your renovations 😊
Try to find an EMMAUS near you, it's the national charity that has stores all over the country and the prices are great for furniture and frames and porcelaine. Most of what I buy is from there, my drapes, furniture etc. I have found enormous hand made rugs, one is 12m2 for 20 euros, I had so many that I gave some to another chateau. I buy lots of frames there, some for the glass which I re-size for other frames. It's a great place to get clothes also especially for kids. Gorgeous home, so many possibilites. Another tip if you are into paint like Farrow & Ball, you can have the colours made up to match from their formulas at LEROY MERLIN for a fraction of the price and better quality/coverage.
THANK YOU! This is exactly what I have been looking for. Seems like I will be a frequent customer at that charity store. Also, a big yes on paints. So thank you again!
No I don’t recommend doing the cheap paint option l the reason Little Greens, fired Earth and Farrow and ball are good is that the pigment is what makes the paint lovely. The cheap copy always looks cheap. Emmaus is a charity for the homeless. It’s not just a brocante.
@@arnicepernice8656 Sorry to disagree but I used to use F&B a lot and ended up twice swearing off them. I gave in last year and ordered a pot , over 100 euros for my kitchen and prepared and undercoated the walls and then began with the F&B and it was a catastrophe, four coats and it's still not right. I tried a brush and two types of roller and it's still patchy. I changed to the 'copy', the same formula as F&B have sold their formula to Leroy Merlin and it took two coats on another set of walls. I still have a large tin of F&B for the hallway and apprehend what it will be like, luckilly there will be a lot of art on these walls to hide any problems. I even lost my deposit on my paris appartment because the F&B paint was patchy after two coats. My best friend who is a muralist had warned me but they have such lovely colours. Little Greene is much better but what a price and if it is possible to have the colour mixed locally why not, unless it's all about the label which makes little sense when you are on a budget. Each to their own but I will never go to them again except for their colour swatches. I have ordered 20 samples of Edward Bulmer for the drawing room panelling, still not decided to use them as a sample is one thing but a wall is another. The Leroy Merlin paint is not 'cheap' paint, it's a good make and many professionals use it. Maybe you could try it first if you live in France.
@@TheFiown no I live in the uk. I always use little greene for the walls and sometimes Fand B for woodwork because I like some of their colours. I like to support a local business which they are to me and also one whose ethics are good and environmental principles too. I’m sorry about your experiences. Maybe it is the type of plaster you are applying it to?
@@arnicepernice8656 I used it on several types of walls so that cannot explain that. When I lived in Paris the shop was nearby and I bacame good friends with one of the head techniciens there. I feel that Little Greene has a better pigment ratio. I have several rooms to do and recently gave up on using water based paint on windows and doors, after preparation, sanding special expensive undercoat and three coats of paint it now chips at the slightest impact! I used a good Liberon paint on the ceiling but still gave it three coats as I have no intention of redoing any of the rooms in my lifetime ! I all for allowing the house to 'age' ! You have a lovely chateau. I hope you have many happy years there. I love the wallpapers and I hope you don't strip them off and paint everything white or grey! Thank you for your comment. I actually enjoyed creating the video for YT so I will definitely stay on it. I have another video coming up in few days, shorter one this time. No, no white or grey for me. In my opinion Chateaux are one of the few buildings that can actually accept bright colors.
I have never seen fireplaces in front of windows before. How does it work for smoke, is the chimney just a pipe to elsewhere for smoke to escape? Its a lovely looking chateau. I look forward to seeing what you do with it. The book covered doors into the library from the staircase, would allow for some more light into that room, if the book covering was gone. Especially if you are thinking of staining the wood even darker. I think you might be glad to have more light. Just an idea. Your ideas must suit you. Your idea of framings the different old wallpapers sounds wonderful. Best wishes from Australia.
Honestly, we haven’t started any fireplace yet, not sure how they work. The previous owner did utilize them quite often, we just haven’t learned their mechanism yet. I will update once we figure it out. Thanks for watching!
I think the little sink in the hallway was for the servants to use to take water to the rooms before whole house plumbing became common. We have ladybugs bad in the states too, they bite and stink if it's the same as what we have. Like everyone else I'm wondering about the fireplaces in front of the windows, how unusual!
I also think the sink was for servants. Especially if that was on the third floor as that's where they would've stayed. The fireplaces in front of the windows is a little strange. I've never seen that before.
Hello from Ohio USA. Congratulations on your new home. It appears to be in good condition. I like the floors that you mentioned you don't like. They just need a deep clean. Also I would Change the hardware on your doors. You are blessed with many rooms. I look forward to seeing what you plan to do with your chateau.
I just watched the episode where you were trying to whiten the floor tiles in the apartment. If you work with the tan instead of expecting it to be white you might like the results. You could do the walls in eggshell or bone color. An accent wall or tr in charcoal gray. Once it’s furnished you could accessorize with splashes of color Or maybe glass and metal.
Lovely! My vote would be a light background Chinese bamboo wallpaper in the spaces, lots of Chinoisorie fabrics in dining , art nouveau wallpaper or stenciling in the foyer, and Wedgewood vases & plates in the blue & white room. Leave the natural wood in the bibliotech add a Morris wallpaper. Thanks for sharing your chateau. PS Paul Dumas image search was a wonderful rabbit hole. There was a lavender floral one & the wildflower stems is really nice.
Just looked up Morris wallpaper. The funny thing is this is what I had in mind for the longest time and was looking for wallpaper like that but didn’t know it’s name and where to find it. So thank you!
The tile in the entrance is fabulous! I'd try to keep as much of the historical details and decorations as possible - although I guess you could say the 20th century wallpaper was historical, and that definitely needs to go. I'm with you on the mint paint though. And the staircase is gorgeous. Have fun with the restoration.
Welcome to your new home! I wish you all many years of happiness there. Your home is beautiful. Do you watch any of the other utube videos of families and their chateaus?? If you do you ll get some ideas from their experiences.

I was not sure where you were from till the end when you said you were from America. Just so you know, one kilogram is 2.205 pounds exactly. In Europe and Britain, the main floor with entrance is the ground floor. The next floor up is 1st floor and so on. I tell you that, so if you have someone come in to work on something, they will not be confused if you say 1st or 2nd floor. Is this your first youtube video of the château? I would definitely replace the windows first with double glazed. That will be very expensive so you may have to do it a few at a time but will help to keep bugs and rain out. Bathrooms were not included when they were built but were added later. Plumbing for sink and tub drains are fairly easy to do, and the pipes are small. Toilets need bigger sewer lines, so there is usually only one on each floor. You must be careful when you add toilets so the plumber does not cut big holes in the joists without properly reinforcing and weakening them, so they break. I wish you great success with this endeavor and many happy years in your new beautiful home. 😊
Thank you so much for your words of wisdom. I am familiar with both measurements systems, floors, as I lived on both continents. Yes, this was my first take on UA-cam. Initially, I did not plan on making it public, hence the camera shakes, etc. Future videos will be tailored for UA-cam. Yes, windows are priority on our list of things to do. Most of them are not repairable. Thank you for watching!
Very pretty, however you named off only cosmetic issues you would like to change all of which are the affordable things. I'd be more concerned about the price of the big ticket $$ items that need ?? To be updated, do you need to re-wire the whole chateau for electricity? All new plumbing? New roof ? . Most importantly do you water access to home a well ? On city water and zoning issues IF you are planing on running a B&B or just private home. All repair issues I listed can cost more than what you payed for home. Unless the previous owners updated already..??? Or if your husband is a plumber, electrician, home builder All in one 😄 ??
Hello, we checked all those issues before the purchase. The roof is good, water access is good too, the electric system needs updating (not up the the current code but no need to rewire everything). So the big ticket items look good, at least for now. What we did not anticipate is new doors and windows. They make the Chateau energy inefficient at this point. Thank you for your comment and thank you for watching!
Thank you for introducing your chateau there is quite a few other chateau on UA-cam and that dark paneling they've redone theirs and they didn't make it darker and they have brightened it up with wax and you need to talk with them and just to say you need to raise your voice level so we can hear you better I hope you keep posting I'd love to follow what you do with your
Such a beautiful chateau!! The staircase is stunning!! The stain glass window and the ceiling are absolutely gorgeous!! Thanks for the tour and I hope you will be able to share more videos. I'll head over to IG and follow you there as well.
You may want to do some research on who from the French nobility lived in you place - the reason it is called a “chateau” is because the building is linked to the nobility. The “chateau” designation has nothing to do with the style, age, or size of the building.
Congrats on your purchase, one major thing to get rid of is those hay rolls. Mice gravitate to them, if your not careful you will have a very large mouse infestation.🇨🇦
Please don’t rip out the tiles! They are beautiful. They might be able to be taken up without breaking and relaid after the support beams are replaced. Maybe helpful if you are able to talk with other chateau saviors. I love when chateau owners understand that they are responsible for these beautiful homes for generations to come. Please don’t make any rash decisions and good luck. I don’t think repainting the lime green would be a “rash” decision🤣
Thanks for agreeing on repainting that mint green! 😆. As for the tiles, I am still not convinced. It may look like the new owners should preserve all details, but please believe me- it’s not entirely like that. Lots of intentional damage prior to us had been done to the building- clearly they did not have the intention of preserving (I will cover that in the future- it’s actually sad). Yes, we will upkeep as much as possible, but I think I need a fresher look in that foyer. It does not mean that we won’t put those tiles elsewhere, just not in that particular space. Thanks for your comment!
I heard they are pretty rare but they did built like that. Seems like most, or at least half of them in our Chateau are under the window. Thanks for watching !
The previous owners left the chateau in reasonably good shape. I'm like you, the wall paper needs to go. The place is quite dusty and looks like it needs a controlled power washing. There are some things you'll need professionals to do. The place is beautiful, I can see the vision.
What is your name and a little background on where you and your family came from? I hope you are a frequent you tube poster. There can be quite a good amount of money in it to help with renovations if you build a subscriber and endorsement base. Lovely chateau. Welcome!
Can't always keep the wild boar away, but at least it is helpful to identify what it is. The local hunting group may have dogs that could discourage them on your property. Good luck
1st tip: don't let anyone in dirty sneakers stand on valuable 100 year old wallpaper!!! Enjoy your lovely new home! Where did you live before? I cannot make out your accent...where are you from? What part of France is the chateau in? Ladybugs are good luck! Bon chance!
You've done a great purchase. Congratulations. I would frame the original Dumas wallpapier pieces. Before you start renovating check out 2 UA-camrs Carole & Adrian of Chateau de la Ferté and Terry, Ash, Tracey and Tony of Chateau de la Lacelle. Think well before you remove. They do most of everything themselves. Contact them for advice, they're very experienced, also with having Patreons and sponsoring. Good luck on your journey
Maybe if u watch how to renovate a Chateau u can get ideas!! Just sit up ur camera and work or do what u want and let us watch what ur doing and not so many voice overs.. I love ur Chateau.. There are some Chateaus that have PayPal and a Patreon to raise money for ur reovations and just set ur camera up to record them and put the sound to it.. Here are some Queens Escape,,How to renovate a chateau,,Chateau Diairies,, Chateau etc there is alot and some have over 100 to 150,000 subscribers get a stand that holds ur camera and just record ur projects with sound and let us get to know ur family it will help u on reovations I joined u on Instagram but on utube I can watch on my TV at home.. Just like ur little girl singing and recording I love it and hearing the birds but just pictures is not my favorite Maybe people will agree 😊 I hope this helps

Most of them are not repairable. Thank you for watching!
great chateau that seems in very good shape compared with others, congratulations, lucky you😊
Thank you!
Thank you for introducing your chateau there is quite a few other chateau on UA-cam and that dark paneling they've redone theirs and they didn't make it darker and they have brightened it up with wax and you need to talk with them and just to say you need to raise your voice level so we can hear you better I hope you keep posting I'd love to follow what you do with your
I didn't see the kitchen. Everything else it's a dream!
I will include the kitchen in future videos.
Such a beautiful chateau!! The staircase is stunning!! The stain glass window and the ceiling are absolutely gorgeous!! Thanks for the tour and I hope you will be able to share more videos. I'll head over to IG and follow you there as well.
Thank you!
You may want to do some research on who from the French nobility lived in you place - the reason it is called a “chateau” is because the building is linked to the nobility. The “chateau” designation has nothing to do with the style, age, or size of the building.
Yes, we did some digging on it at a city hall, but some more will be done to get more details. It’s quite exciting; I will cover it in a future video.
Congrats on your purchase, one major thing to get rid of is those hay rolls. Mice gravitate to them, if your not careful you will have a very large mouse infestation.🇨🇦
Good call! I did not think of that!
So, welcome to France ! 🙂
Thanks!
Your oak in your dining room is beautiful.
Thank you!
I like the size not imposing. I’ve never seen fireplaces at windows, I don’t understand that.
I heard they are pretty rare but they did built like that. Seems like most, or at least half of them in our Chateau are under the window. Thanks for watching !
If you stain the wood in the library dark then the room will be darker.
That’s true.
The previous owners left the chateau in reasonably good shape. I'm like you, the wall paper needs to go. The place is quite dusty and looks like it needs a controlled power washing. There are some things you'll need professionals to do. The place is beautiful, I can see the vision.
Totally agree! And thank you for watching!
Beautiful 😍
Thank you! 😊
What is your name and a little background on where you and your family came from? I hope you are a frequent you tube poster. There can be quite a good amount of money in it to help with renovations if you build a subscriber and endorsement base. Lovely chateau. Welcome!
I will share some info in the future videos. Didn’t know this is something people would be interested to find out. Thanks for watching!
Big spiders? Come to Australia :D
😳 I heard they are legendary there!
24:08 I can learn you how to cook it if you want 🙂 (I am jocking… yet I can truly learn you lol)
Those piles on the ground, look like animal fieces. Wild boar dropping, surprise.
Oh, thanks 😳. I guess we will be fencing the area then
Can't always keep the wild boar away, but at least it is helpful to identify what it is.
Bon chance!
We are in the Loire Valley, 60 km from Angers. Originally from Europe but not France.
One question … where are you from ????
Poland
Where are you roughly ?
Saumur/Chinon area
The grand salon could be a Wedgewood inspired room
That’s exactly what I am thinking
You are kind of mumbling...I could not watch this.
Thanks for the tips!
Thank you, it does help. I have been wondering how to find a balance between staying anonymous and making a UA-cam content, but it seems like the YT community prefers to see the person. So let me think about it. And thank you for watching!
Where did you move from? Your accent is familiar but I can’t place it.
Lovely Chateau, enjoy.
Kilogram is 2.2 lbs
I am from the Eastern Europe originally.
