Actually, while many people now use "flutes" to drink sparkling wines, the classic shape in France was for a long time the "coupe" (supposedly modelled on the breast of Marie-Antoinette, but that seems to be a legend). It is not ideal to drink champagne for many reasons, but considering its wide usage, it could have been mentioned. Thanks for all your great videos.
I have really enjoyed the Crémant d’Alsace Rosé from Lucien Albrecht lately. Also tend to have sparkling wine paired with food rather than as a celebration or a pre dinner drink
I have to say that English sparkling wines have definitely earned a worthy reputation. They are english young wine makers which allows them to be creative and unique.
I dont drink much sparkling wine, i drink a lot of red and white wine though, and am a winemaker. I studied under a winemaker who learned from one of the legends here in california who is basically the godfather of california syrah and zinfandel. Jeff Cohn I have recently started to make sparkling wines this year because i wanted to try something different with some of my white grapes.
My favorite sparkling wines are Ruinart Blanc de Blanc and Rose, also Love Krug every one of them. I currently have the 170th edition in my wine cabinet
Before I begin, and before anyone tries to bind and gag me, I swear I really have tasted some truly hideous French champagnes that crossed the line from "brut" to "battery acid". It felt like sucking on the lemon from hell. And BTW, I checked, the bottles were sealed before I opened it and not rotted in any way. They were not the cheap stuff, either, and I was drinking this while in France itself. To give an idea, if Dom Perignon actually handed out this stuff all those years ago, any fellow monk he gave it to would start choking and calling for an exorcism to kill the devil's brew. I do not care what anybody says, I ♥Cava. I think the flavor is lovely. Not too strong, not to sweet or delicate, but juuust right. I find it goes particularly nicely with a big versatile variety of foods. I think that Spain deserves more attention and encouragement. Technically they have been at it longer than France, and I must say, it is rather impressive that Cava goes nicely with dishes that are spicy or have chili peppers in them (it makes the heat go ZING!) but not out of place at a Christmas dinner.
Alway enjoy Cremant de Loire and sometimes Limoux, pink prosecco is usually fun fizz, opened a L'Occhiolino red 7.5% Emilia frizzante yesterday, delightful full fruit foodie wine - Dominio de los Duques cava is my favourite, I have many sparkling wine style glasses! I go with mood. I have some vintage brut/rose English sparkling aside for extreme special occasions (my birthday does not count) lol 🤭 Life requires bubbles ☺
Loved the 2015 Caraccioli brut rose from the Santa Lucia Highlands I had a while ago. Interestingly also carbonated a muscadet in a soda stream which was pretty tasty
I live in Limoux in the Aude region of France. It is now commonly accepted that this is where sparkling wine was invented at the Abbey of St Hilaire. Very good blanquets and cremants are made here and compare very well with top end Champagnes for a fraction of the price. I was in the wine trade for many years so I can comment with some authority.
@@MRaxefax Sorry I have been so long in replying! I can honestly say I have never had a bottle I have not enjoyed. My favourite is a producer called Antech or a fabulous Cremant from Jean Claude Mas. Enjoy.
Thanks for the video! I always wonder about these numbers so how do you call sparkling wine with 2.6 - 2.9 bar pressure? My favourite sparkling wine is actually a light sparkling one, Moscato d' Asti to be precise. Moreover I have been really impressed by the "Schatzkammer"-Sekte/Cremants of the Saar-Mosel-Winzersekt in Trier because they have some sparkling wines which matured on their yeast for over 20 years (29 for the oldest I think) an it was definitely awesome to taste something like this.
Hard to say a favourite -- but why not name a few favourite styles: Blanc de Noir, Brut Rose and/or Blanc de Blancs (n.b. pref "Brut Nature" but willing to go up to 7 g/l). Thanks for the nice video -- happy weekend and skål from norway!
My absolute favorite sparkling is Kristal.............I wish I could drink it every day.............However I would need to be a billionaire LOL Nice to see a wine expert that really is ! That is to say not full of BS Oh and great wines coming out of the Nelson area the Pinots and chardonnay's are to die for !
I did Konstantin !..........seems from what you say that 2012 was a great year............I am not rich but I have invested in two bottles...........wish it was two dozen LOL It costs about A$ 500.00 a bottle here !
@@KonstantinBaumMasterofWine Thank you for the reply, I later realized that this was covered in the video. I have since switched from flutes to bigger white wine glasses and at least for me the difference is huge, it really changed my appreciation of champagne and I am only now starting to realize what all the fuss is about, so thanks again.
How is it that non-vintage wine is so popular with sparkling wine, but virtually irrelevant with still wine? Is this due to historical or production-related reasons?
Yes. Tradition, processes structure of the industry played a role. There are some NV still wines like Sherry, very cheap table wine and some others too

Sparkling wine and food is often overlooked.

That's true - they are getting better and better!

I fell in love with Lambrusco at lake Garda. Unfortunately it’s hard to find in UK. In supermarket at least
Can you talk about brazilian sparkling wines? As a brazillian myself, I appreciate them very much. Loving your channel!!
Great video. thanks :) Prosecco is my favourite sparkly one.
My favorite sparkling wine at the moment is Casa Perini Prosecco. It's a brazilian house. I also loved their Aquarela , a lovely sweet rosé.
Today I had a Champagne brut together with a hawaiian tuna poke bowl, it was a great pairing.
I'm not a wine expert at all, but of the few sparkling wines I've tried, I have had better impressions with "Clairette de Die" than with Champagne.
Mine is definitely Bride Valley Cremant. Or Langham. Wonderful Dorset wine estates. Worth trying.

Belgian sparkling wine is very good, wines from winery Genoels-Elderen are amazing. otherwise crémant gives a very good value

Very nice channel ! Thanks for sharing your knowledge :)
My pleasure!
just got a bottle of non-vintage ayala brut. looks great and can't wait to open it this summer!
Thanks for the video!

I agree. I have never found a proper answer to that question. I like Moscato d'Asti too. Had one with onion tarte last week - great match!
I might be biased, but I love English sparklers like Nyetimber 🍾

my favourite sparkling wine must be the spätburgunder rose sekt 2010 from Bernhard Huber...
Great wine!
That sounds very interesting, well done!
1. Champagne
2. USA Sparkling from Moët or Taittinger houses
3. Prosecco
4. Cava
We really liked Wolfberger Cremant D'Alsace Cuvee Prestige Saint Leon IX Brut

NIce work mate. Great intro
Thanks Mate!
Is it possible to let sparkling wine age? I just found a magnum prosecco in the cellar and it is more than 10 years old.
Pignoletto, does that qualify?
What is your opinion on sparkling wine glasses? Especially tulip shaped glasses like in the video vs. flutes?
I prefer bigger glasses like the Riedel Veritas Champagne glass I use in this video.

I didn't realize that Sekt was made by methode champenoise, somehow I thought it was a tank method sparkler. I have learned something! 😃
Most of the German Sekts are Tank method but the good stuff is methode traditionnelle.
@@KonstantinBaumMasterofWine ah, OK. Thanks!
Volker Raumland - Cuvée Katharina 2014 👍
Ach so und natürlich wie immer ein top Video!
Danke - sehr gute Wahl!

Man literally made prosecco in the first skit.
Nicolas Maillart und Henri Giraud Champagner

Terrifying intro. A shame you didnt show a proper sabrage!
Coming up! I promise
No GOOD wine was harmed filming this video
