      A vegan kebab to me would be big chunks of onion, Jalapeño peppers, mushrooms and marinated tandoori spiced tofu on a skewer oh tomatoes too. Served with basmati rice and lime wedges.

      Roasting veggies brings out the most amazing flavor with little added to them - carrots, sweet potatoes, parsnips, mushrooms, eggplant, onions, okra the list goes on and on and on

      If you roast big oyster mushrooms you can sort of pull them apart afterwards using a fork (scraping motion) before panfrying them like the jackfruit in this video, that way they are sort of like pulled pork but also really similar to the kebab meat!

    Here in U.S. a kebab is bite-size pieces of tofu(?), and vegs like toms, onions, bell peppers, etc., put on a small stick and cooked over a grill----
    Also, you can use fruit----pineapple, peaches, etc.

      Good idea. I love mushrooms and have never been a fan of using jackfruit for meat. Jackfruit is one of the sweetest things I've ever eaten -- at least when it's fresh. It tastes like bubble gum.

    • @phreak074
      @phreak074 6 років тому +1

      @@palecompass3598 I agree with you on it's taste raw anyway... but i've had it fried like chips, and it's like a hearty fry, and cooked it wasn't really sweet... it does a good job of taking on the flavor you give it... I'm not a fan of it raw though, I would describe it as stinky sweet... lol

In the UK for 15 years and also spent time in Ireland I know kabob with two sauces so this better be good because every now and then I miss them! I use tahini a base for my garlic sauce with a ton of fresh crushed garlic but I never knew what the base was. I also add lemon juice and a couple of other things to the garlic sauce. I remember right down the road there was a chippy and they sold Kebab meat sandwiches on a round like a hamburger bun covered in garlic sauce I ate at least two a week I could just take a bath in the garlic sauce from anywhere! I think I would use soy curls over jackfruit. I think I would use soy curls over Jack fruit. I've had this on my ’to try’ list forever, and finally made them today. They were sooo delicious!! When I tasted the cooked jackfruit on it's own, it seemed too sweet and not meatlike at all, a little tip - definitely slice it in tiny peaces so the moisture evaporates better. But the final product was super yummy, it all blended so well together, it reminded me of the kebabs I used to eat back in my country, which is odd because those were in a wrap, not pitta, contained lots of cabbage and completely different ingredients. 😆 the garlic sauce was probably what sealed the deal. I don't use soy milk so I made my own version with greek yogurt and mayo. The chilli sauce though... 🥵🥵🥵🌶🌶🌶🔥🔥🔥 BE WARNED!! I gasped when I saw they put 6 whole chillies, I used 4 smaller ones and it still made my mouth burn!! And I only added some to jackfruit mix, no extra on finished kebab. You guys are crazy xD

    I made this with shredded oyster mushrooms and it was great! My only criticism is I have no idea why anyone would need 400ml of mayo, next time I will use commercial mayo and add roasted garlic.

      Jackfruit is a really good substitute for that stringy meaty texture. :D

    I think the soy milk is not neccessary- the garlic itself is creamy when mixed, but I like it otherwise. And I love the fact that you use jackfruit instead of tofu (y)

    Horseradish garlic sauce
    I just blurted that out didn't I.
    Or garlicky horseradish sauce
    One of these days I'm going to fix this kabob. Sounds too good not to. And throw some seitan on it also.
    But I'm gonna line the pita with garlicky horseradish sauce
