    For manga youtubers, I highly recommend Colleen's Manga Recs. Her vids are SO good! There's a variety of content too, usually essays about various aspects of manga, but they also have videos dedicated to specific series, like 7SEEDS, Mars, and Skip Beat etc., where spoilers for certain aspects of those stories are abound haha, as well as her thoughts on them. I especially love their vids because she focuses on shoujo and josei titles. Sadly those demographics tend to be overshadowed by shounen and seinen, especially in the western fanbases, so it's cool to see someone making a point to discuss them in depth.

    For Jujutsu Kaisen 0, it’s actually a prequel volume to the main story that was the first thing the author wrote in that universe. A lot of the characters got integrated into the main story proper, so it’s canon to the events. I would suggest reading it around volume 8

    edit: idk if anyone else mentioned it but given actually got a sequel set 10 years in the future that just started publishing monthly in japan, i think only 2 or 3 chapters are out now! the author commited CRIMES against uenoyamas hair

    Toni’s Manga and Tsukkinotes do monthly wrap ups and talk about what they read. I enjoy ThatMangaDude’s First Volume Impressions series too.
    I hope you next first volume readathon you throw in:
    1. Delicious in Dungeon (think Frieren + Food Wars). The final volume is being released in a few months.
    2. The Masterful Cat is Depressed Again - Cat manga thats so relatable
    3. Otherside Picnic - A sapphic horror
    4. She Loves to Cook, She Loves to Eat - sapphic food manga :))
    5. Nina the Starry Bride - Fantasy Shoujo
    Oh btw Homunculus has on-page SA of a minor in the second omnibus. I immediately dropped after that, so wanted to give a warning if you look out for that. It didn’t even give horror/thriller that was expected, just uncomfortable edgelord type read (IMO).

    That collection is awesome. I’ve been collecting mangas for six years, and even much, much longer because I started getting them for the first time in 2011 when a friend gave me a Naruto manga. As far as my collection now, I have all of Naruto, all the current volumes of Boruto, all of Fullmetal Alchemist, Dragon Ball, all the current omnibuses of One Piece, a few volumes of Bleach, Burn The Witch, all of Yu Yu Hakusho, all the currently made volumes of Hunter x Hunter, every single Yu-Gi-Oh! volume as well as all the spin-off mangas of it, I’m working on finishing Rurouni Kenshin, I have all the current ones for My Hero Academia, the two volumes of Barrage, all the current volumes of One-Punch Man, all of Dr. Stone, Food Wars, Assassination Classroom, Demon Slayer, The Promised Neverland, some of Jujutsu Kaisen, Slam Dunk, Haikyu, D.Gray-Man, Claymore, Chainsaw Man, Spy x Family, Kaiju No. 8, Shaman King, Toriko, Gintama, Blue Exorcist, Undead Unluck, all of the current volumes of Black Clover, all of Death Note, the first volumes of all the JoJo parts so far, some of Inuyasha and Yashahime, some of Black Lagoon and Sailor Moon, all of Fairy Tail, The Seven Deadly Sins, some of Vagabond as well as all the Colossal Editions of Attack On Titan and all the Deluxe Editions of Berserk. I’m hoping to get a box set for Tokyo Ghoul and Tokyo Ghoul: Re. A good amount of these were hard to get since some weren’t sold where I am, I had to order some series from America like Yu Yu Hakusho, Shaman King, Toriko and Gintama. I like to have all my Shonen Jump mangas together and I personally prefer getting omnibus versions of manga so a lot of the ones I listed are in 3 in 1 omnibus editions. I wish a lot more had omnibuses, but I’m still super happy with my collection and can’t wait to get more. I also have a lot of these as anime DVDs and Blu-Rays and many other like all the Studio Ghibli movies, Code Geass and so much more. I also have a ton of different anime character collectibles from series like Naruto, One Piece, Dragon Ball, Bleach, Yu Yu Hakusho, Hunter x Hunter, My Hero Academia and many others.

    With Attack on Titan. I would highly recommend also watching the anime's final 2 specials too and giving your thoughts in the video!
    Also some manga that are incredible -
    1. Ooku : The Inner Chambers (An epidemic wipes out a lot of male population and now the shogun is a woman. It's a generations spanning masterpiece). It's a shojo too.
    2. NANA (a classic within manga)
    3. Look Back & Goodbye Eri (both are incredible one volume complete mangas by Tatsuki Fujimoto. I think reading these will definitely help in understanding his long running series Fire Punch and Chainsaw Man)

    "Our dreams at dusk" is only 4 volumes and it's a chef's kiss. It follows a cast of LGBTQA+ characters.
    "Wotakoi: Love is hard for Otaku" is so much fun and one of the few that feature a full adult cast of office workers.
    "Bungo Stray Dogs" is a must for any bookworm. Full of literary Easter eggs. It's so absurdity extra sometimes and I love it.
    "Black Butler" is a classic at this point 😅 worth checking the 1st volume.
    "Can't stop cursing you" is 4vol total. I started this recently and I loved the first volume. Supernatural/mystery/horror/a little gore..
    "A sign of Affection" is one of the most popular shoujos right now, featuring a deaf MC.

    I really loved this video, these kinds of miscellaneous chatty vids you do are some of my favourites, and your collection is super beautiful 💌
    I finished slam dunk for the first time a few months ago and I had a really similar opinion of the first few volumes. For me like 1-5 are kind of weak and not really substantive, but as soon as the story moves into the actual basketball games it reeaaallly picks up and you can see the skill of Takehiko Inoue's writing, his pacing and visual storytelling are next level. By the time I was at volumes 20-31, I can honestly say that it was one of the best manga reading experiences I've ever had. I know you've got plenty of other things to read, but I really would recommend giving it a bit more of a go!

    • @BDSomewhat
      @BDSomewhat 5 місяців тому

      I’m so excited to read the rest of Slam Dunk read the first 2 volumes didn’t blow me away, but I read the first 3 volumes of REAL another manga by the same author and my god do I love it, and also got first 2 volumes of Vagabond and love that too. Takehiko Inoue is a master

    • @ohokneat
      @ohokneat 5 місяців тому +1

      @@BDSomewhat He really reaaaalllly is. I remember reading through that first handful of volumes thinking that I must be missing something, like I'm just don't get slam dunk in the way that everyone else does, but the difference in the way that story ends vs where it begins is so major. By the end, you can really feel the confidence that Innoue develops as a storyteller, without feeling the need to cater to his audience. But bro, I'm so excited for you, you're gonna have the best time.

    • @BDSomewhat
      @BDSomewhat 5 місяців тому

      @@ohokneat dang thank you bro! The jump sounds so good to hear because I thought it was just a corny manga that people liked because of nostalgia, REAL really changes that for me. It was great, the art was amazing, the second manga that made me cry (before One Piece of course) it’s just amazing I really need to read all his works for sure

  • @Katt1721
    @Katt1721 5 місяців тому +1

    This is an insane collection for such a short amount of time, that's incredible! Lots of great stuff and good variety :)
    Fruits Basket is one of my all-time favs/super formative for me, and I do think it improves past the first couple vols as more of the character layers are slowly peeled back alongside the larger scope of the story & its themes. But if it's just not for you, that's okay too! If it's the more the art, I would recommend giving the 2019 anime a shot since it has more modern character designs.
    If you want some extra shojo/josei recommendations specifically (trying to avoid older OOP titles like Basara or brand new titles that haven't been in print long):
    - Burn the House Down (josei, domestic thriller, 8 vols complete but digital-only release - super fun page-turner binge read, could recc to almost anyone)
    - Blank Canvas: My So-Called Artist's Journey (josei, semi-autobiographical, 5 vols complete - Bit of a tearjerker and very inspiring)
    - Wake Up Sleeping Beauty (shojo, romance-mystery, 6 vols complete - a "short sweet and to the point" shojo with a male POV, easy recc to shojo newcomers)
    - Children of the Whales (shojo, adventure/psychological, 23 vols complete - can be a bit dense with its mysteries and world-building, but stunning art and I found it a rewarding read)
    - Perfect World (josei, romance, 12 vols complete - an adult relationship with unique challenges, heavier on the drama but still very sweet)
    - Last Game (shojo, rom-com, 10 vols complete but releasing in ENG - take something like Kaguya-sama but toned down a bit so it focuses more on the romance buildup than gag comedy)
    - Requiem of the Rose King (shojo, drama/historical, 17 vols complete - very dramatic and can be quite tragic at times, but in a theatrical way)
    - NANA (shojo, drama/SoL, 21 vols - unfortunately will likely remain unfinished but the fact that its still worth recommending speaks to how good it is)
    Outside of those, I feel like you'd enjoy The Case Study of Vanitas a lot since it gives me FMA vibes but with vampires and also if everyone has horny bisexual energy, and/or A Bride's Story (potentially? Depends on if travelogue-style vignette storytelling is too slow-paced or not, but the art is gorgeous)

    My favorite manga series is the 4 volume long Our Dreams at Dusk by Yuhki Kamatani. It's pretty their magnum opus in my opinion- the story that they've always wanted to tell. Coming of age of a closeted gay teen in modern Japan who learns about himself as he meets and befriends other people in the community. I love it because it shows the lives of a variety of different people across gender and age and their struggles/joy. While it does talk about what reality is like for queer people in Japan, it is also very hopeful for the future.

    I absolutely love your collection! There are so many fantastic series, and it is really fun seeing your passion for the medium. Also I'm always happy to see another fan of Cherry Magic!! I'm also obsessed.
    For some phenomenal fantasy series, j can't recommend Dungeon Meshi and Land of the Lustrous enough! Both are complete (Dungeon Meshi having 14 volumes and Land of the Lustrous having 13), and the writing & worldbuilding in both are top notch. Both start out more episodic and slowly build into a much more grand story. Dungeon Meshi especially has a major turning point around the end of vol 4 and continues to get better and better the longer that it progresses.
    I'd also recommend checking out Golden Kamuy! It is absolutely wild and such a joy to read.

    Akira, Gangsta and Soul Eater are all ones I've really loved that you didn't mention. I'm almost half way through Fairy Tail and love that one too. Dandadan is crazy weird but I love it. Kaiju No. 8 is also very good. Most of my favorites are your favorites too. Berserk, Spy Family, Witch Hat and One Piece. Honestly I think you might have been the reason I started reading manga.

    Some mangatuber recs (I think with manga content, haul videos are way more popular then review/reccomendations videos, so they get pushed more. Plus, a lot of haul videos I see, people will semi-review them as they are talking about it (if they have read it.)
    Tsukki notes does monthly media logs/other videos.
    That Manga Dude does regular first volume review videos and media logs.
    Toni's Manga also does reading vlogs.
    Caketinz does PRIMARILY hauls (like loads) but you can find videos on her channel that specifically review books.

    The envy is so real, good envy though, it makes so happy seeing someone fall so deep in love with this medium, but it is a little hurting having been in this thing 2008 more or less and only having like ten manga volumes, (that's only because I only resently have started gaining money of own) (and if I have started in the 2000 the editions would me terrible)

    Love how excited and passionate you are about your manga collection! It's so refreshing somehow and made me want to rekindle my manga love (I'm interested in Yona of the Dawn the The Haunted Bookstore now!) also LOVE seeing Naruto on here, seriously if you love shonen and BL you're gonna love Naruto so much, it's my favorite fictional love story of all time :') (not quite as explicit as yaoi stuff, but it's very real anyway). Also I don't know if you know but there's a Japanese drama adaptation of Cherry Magic and it's so good!! I haven't read the manga though but the actors are really well casted. Can't wait to see more manga content from you! (especially Naruto and danmei novels!! Heaven Official's Blessing is fabulous). Thanks for the vid 😊

    I understand wanting to drop fruits basket. I also stopped after the first volume and I am so glad my friend pushed me to keep reading. It has some very heartwarming character writing about relationships. It is a manga I revisit every year. I pick my old ass copy of vol. 1 and enjoy it. please don't give up on it, do yourself a favour and see what the best of Shojo can offer.
    Also, read homunculus with care, is what I will say. Go in blind if you want that full experience but scary if definitely a term that would fit for the series.

Homunculus is supposed to be a horror series but I found what I’ve read so far (not too much) to be unintentional? Comedy gold due to its surrealism.

    Really love the video and the whole collection!! I can't wait to see your thoughts on most of those. 🤗🧡
    Also, just want to give my two cents on My Hero Academia: while i agree that it starts very cliché-ish and the whole super hero thematic is too saturated right now, that's not all there is to it. mha has a lot of soul and it's written in a way that tries to break all those cliche themes it presents in the beginning in order to create something new and fresh, the characters are also really well written (even the supporting cast!) and contribute to the overall story at least a bit and the art is gorgeous. mha also goes really in deep on themes like society, morality, minorities and abuse, and does it in a very real, respectiful and heartfelt way, i think this is where the manga shines the most tbh.
    oh, and a fun fact: last year mha was officially recognised in a japanese article as a manga that resonates with a lot of lgbt people around the world because of it's themes and that this is one of the reasons it is really popular and loved overseas.
    As someone that also has one piece as my favorite manga of all time, i can confidently say that mha is a close second in my heart and is really well written, so i hope you can give it a chance again, because you might end up really liking it more than you imagine, i truly think so!

    I haven't bought new manga in a long time up until today when I ordered a box set of My Hero Academia having binged watched the anime. I don't know where I am going to squeeze in all these extra books! If you want more BL manga then I highlyrecommend any of the books by Ogeretsu Tanaka, the love stories are so compelling and the art style is beautiful. Some of their books I haven't been able to get in English, the French seem to really love them though so a few of my copies are French instead of English!

    Ranmaru Zariya is fantastic, if you end up liking Coyote and Birds of Shangri-La she also has a single volume BL called Liquor and Cigarettes.
    MADK (I pronounced it Mad-Kay, though that is not definitive just what I do haha!) is definitely something. It's really graphic and intense, but the story and worldbuilding and characters are incredible and the character designs and drawings are some of the most beautiful I've ever seen in a manga, it's a very unique series. Not for everyone though!

    For Jujutsu Kaisen, you want to read volume 0 after chapter 79. For the anime, it's season 1, the movie, and then season 2. Same for the manga. Volume 0 is pretty much the movie, so that's why you'd read it after 79, as that is when the first season for the anime would end. Hope that helps!

    Great collection! One Piece and Ascendance of a bookworm are some of my favorites too. It’s easy to find One Piece manga UA-camrs, but hard to find others who review more like you and BoogieSnacks. I mainly go to Reddit to read people’s Ascendance of a bookworm reactions, but sometimes I check out videos from The Chattering Magpi. A shojo series I recommend is the 7th time Loop light novel/manga/anime. It’s still ongoing, but so far I’ve been enjoying it. Another shojo series that I enjoyed was Ouran High School Host Club, however I’ve only seen the anime and haven’t read the manga. Anime was hilarious though. Please continue with the awesome manga reviews 😊

    If you are looking for manga content creators, I can absolutely recommend 'mangecaptor'. I love their videos. Always so relaxing to watch and I often find things I want to read. But their videos are typically spoiler free.
    'My Brother's Husband' is great😍I hope you pick it up soon. Maybe for pride month?
    I love 'Fruits Basket', and I do think that it gets better over time, but if you did not enjoy volume 1 too much, I don't think you necessary would like the rest more (no guarantees, if you do continue, I hope you will come to love it :))
    And The Promised Neverland is an amazing story. I would recommend you don't binge read it (at least for me, it made me want a break halfway through), but read it a little bit slower.
    I'm really excited for the Fullmetal Alchemist spoiler video😄 I finished the series a couple months ago, so maybe I will remember enough to follow the video

In terms of volume # either after Volume 9 or after Volume 16

If you like Food Wars, you might like Dungeon Meshi but I don't wanna add to your already massive list 🤣 I also found Kimetsu very generic so I stopped at the end of s1 of the anime. Fruits Basket I also found meh. But Cherry Magic!! If you can watch the jdrama followed by the Jmovie, I strongly recommend!! I think you should do a bl vlog like you mentioned too. I've gotten so invested in some of your collection, Jujutsu Kaisen, Assisination Classroom and The Summer Hikaru Died are this years favourites! (I hate waiting for the Hiraku one). I will say Goodnight PunPun made me uncomfortable. The first manga I stopped instantly and threw away and not donate. It made me feel wrong just owning it, theres a page of a little girl with an adults naked body (Punpun is a kid was fantasing about a kid his age but it's fu..ing weird for me own that)
