Hello everyone. I hope you have enjoyed this year's Christmas. I certainly have. Since it's Boxing Day, here's a logo history I've been working on for almost a month. This might be my last video of 2024, but rest assured there's more to come in 2025, which hopefully should be another great year.
Note:
Some variants are not included due to some of them being impossible to find or because a buttload of more variations would lead to the video being too long and unwatchable. I will delete any comments saying "You forgot [variation not included]" or any other unnecessary editions of criticism.
AVID (Audiovisual Identity Database) claims the "V of Steel" (1986-90) was used until 1989, but the truth is, it wasn't.
Not all plaster errors will be included, with a few exceptions including two variations, both from Greatest Heroes of the Bible and a rerun of The Beverly Hillbillies respectively.
Viacom Productions was a television production arm of Viacom International, established in 1971 as the successor to CBS Films, which had been reorganized as CBS Enterprises, Inc. in 1968. In 1977, following difficulties in launching prime-time shows, Viacom's own unit was set up for prime-time programming, led by Richard Reisberg. That year, Roland Kibbee and Dean Hargrove left Universal to join Viacom, and seven years later, Thomas D. Tannenbaum became the studio's president. They acquired Paramount Communications, Inc. on 11th March 1994, and its first major hit under the new ownership was Sabrina the Teenage Witch (1996-2003). Viacom Productions ceased operations in 2004 after folding into Paramount Network Television amid financial troubles. The final shows produced under its name were Ed (2000-04) and The Division (2001-04).
Special credit goes to Broken Saw, TheVintageTVArchive (TVTA), The British Endboard Archive, and the others credited at the end, whose hard work at archiving the footage is greatly appreciated.

The Viacom Pinball music is the ringtone for my phone so, before I started watching this, I had to tell my mom: "I am watching a Viacom logo history -- my phone is *not* ringing" 😂
That's clever that you used the Pinball music as your own ringtone. It's pretty fitting for one.
@JontyMaster Thanks! 😊
And ingenious @@JontyMaster
For me, what makes the V of Doom logo scary (at least the filmed version of it) is that I don't think I've ever seen a pristine copy, they've always been from damaged prints of various degrees of degradation. That definitely adds to the "creepy" factor.
Merry late Xmas for all. I see the Viacom logo history is chefs' kiss. The 2nd logo is really recognizable cause "v of doom" is classic, so I nickname it "zooming v" cause the v zooms. I love this video. Happy Boxing Day, and I give it a 10/10
P.S. the end part definitely sounds like that lol
_FANTASTIC LOGO HISTORY!_ Many of Viacom's logos are really memorable among the logo community, especially the 1976 "V of Doom" logo (3:39) which I believe it, along with the Screen Gems logo, was one of the first logos of the infamous "scary logos" trend that has been going on since the early days of UA-cam (correct me if I'm wrong though); it's also one of the first logos I saw before my interest in logos started to kick in (in late 2019 as far as I remember). The weirdest variants of the logo however, has got to be the ones from _horribly_ damaged prints (such as 7:54) and there's also the end cards plastered over the logo (7:47, warped music). There are also a few rare/never seen before versions such as the greenish coloured version of the 1986 logo (18:01). What I think are the best logos from Viacom would be the 1976, 1986, and 1990 logos, plus the 1983 "Special Delivery" logo (12:55).
Thank you once again! Viacom is an absolute classic in this community of ours. And yes, while I'm not scared of it myself, the V of Doom's synth music and the symbol chasing at the screen is bound to give some nightmares. The Special Delivery logo is epic!
Hope you had a nice Christmas!

Merry Christmas to you too! :-D
I was today years old when I learned that it was pronounced “Vee-a-com” prior to the introduction of the “Wigga Wigga” logo of my childhood.
"I was today years old"
so corny.
No, it is actually pronounced “Vie a com” not “Vee a com”
