Running back through the old videos on the Reviews playlist and this one legitimately made me laugh out loud 3 different times. Good stuff... thanks for the vids!
Had an offer to trade for a Junglass 2, came here to see if it would be worth it, got reminded about the loss of a great man in the industry. RIP Marshall
0:51 The child is escaping! This is a good looking Choppa. I still wonder, why the 6" & 7" blade length gets so neglected? Help me. Why did we get two spine thicknesses? I recently took a new Schrade knife I bought (SCHF37M), to my local machine shop, and had it surface ground. Down to 0.187" thick. I really love this thing now. Yes, it will be the shins. #choppa
I’ve got the OG Junglas and I rather like it for what it is. I think I may pick one of these up some time. Sorry to hear about Marshall. That must be a devastating loss for his family.
My dude! Yeah it broke... you come across bad heat treats or bad pieces of steel sometimes... don’t know till it happens. The good thing is Esees warranty absolutely trounces everyone else. It’s like a Leatherman warranty with no conditions.
@@AdvancedKnifeBro you are in a small class of people that have legit broken one... I think the rest of them get cut in half with torches just to murder the knife and test the warranty.good thing is the warranty is NO JOKE.
"hoon-glas too". Really strange that you had a knife that broke. Was the skull rune improperly cast? Did they not use the right tempering incantations?
@@AdvancedKnifeBro The real magic is the I don't give a AKB what you did to your knife warranty😂😂😂 It ain't pretty and it ain't pocket jewelry...but Facebook you if you can't take a joke.
nice test of the esee junglas ll !... i was even more amazed, at 6.42, at how you balanced that log standing on its pointed end, on that wobbly stump, so fast!... i prob couldnt do that if my life depended on it!. lol!,.. good job!,
i dont appreciate you ripping on cold steel. When i ran into a lake with my care i stabbed my recon 1 into the bumper and used it as a hand hold to pull the car out by myself and then i pulled out a piece of paper from my get home safe bag and yep it was still razor sharp.
You don't see old photos of loggers or homesteaders doing wood work with a big ass knife. The reason? It's not practical. I'd buy me a boys ax for the back yard and a Ontario machete to go with it. I have Esee knives myself and love them, I also see the allure of beating on shit with a big ass knife, but only for a few mins. I know it's the "trend" and I'm not ragging on the video I'm just saying.
I know. I have read a ton of the old camping books. The rule of thumb was always 3 inch folding knife and a small camp axe. However- that would exclude many many other knives too. Modern knives are often overbuilt for no reason... too heavy for no reason... too pretty for no reason... have odd blades for no reason. I bought the only knife I needed a long time ago. I don't hunt large elk or build shelters. I camp, hike, and eat things.
So sad of what happened to Marshall Hoots, he will be missed.. Great review!! Did I miss the moment you broke the tip? Those Esee knives sure can take a beating.. I'm still deciding if I should get the Junglas or the Junglas II.. Any thoughts?
Junglas if you need the 2 inches. This is basically good for batoning mostly. I didn't break the blade on camera, but I did show the part with the big chunk out of the middle of the blade.
I'm really suprised your mark1 jungles failed as bad as it did man. I'm not sure if there's an "esee fail" vid here on the tubes. Woulda been a good one to catch on camera! Glad they're warranty is no questions asked.
+Josh Johnson it was also a II... but yeah. It’s a rare occurrence. I debated pulling out the camera- but I was trying to start a fire and the kid loves touching the camera lens, so I decided to go without it. I was never able to find the piece of blade though. Weird.
Advanced Knife Bro maybe they had a few runs with "meh" heat treats. Yeah man, I think all small children suffer from a case of the reachy grabbys. I know my son did....does....probably will until he's 12. Lol
Just got this knife yesterday, along with the 18" Ontario machete. I had to laugh when you said the Junglas 2 is smaller than the original. The 2 is ridiculously large!! Lol
I'm pretty sure that was a pocket stream. I put it in my pocket without locking the screen, and you know- streams happen. Or they get set-up. Total accident. No streams... carry on.
Im really trying to figure out how you managed to fuck up that first one. 1095 is a great steel but ESEE does 1095 perfect. Must of been a bad batch of steel is what im trying to guess.
Must have been... first time it's ever happened to me. Esee siad they've seen it a few times when people repeatedly pummeled through knots on hard wood.
Gotta love companies that stand by thier products. Leatherman is another fine example. Personally I dont see the point in knife designs like this. Its too big and heavy for carving work, which should make it a good chopper, but good choppers should be front heavy and benefit from angled grips. Preferably without an exposed tang. Perhaps it would be good for fighting but wouldnt you want it more pointy for that?
I would think that you could beat the snot out of the Junglas. You must’ve had some seriously knotty wood. I do the same shit with my knives as you do. It’s fun. I managed to lodge my 12” Bowie into my shin 2 weeks ago. It was decent, needed 5 stitches. Could’ve been worse. Love your reviews, even if I am 5 years late to the party.🥳

1095 steel is not the best choice for large blades. The heat treat has to be on point . Many Ontario's 1095 steel machete's broke. 1075 as Condor uses is a better choice, 1070 for Tramontina/Imacasa, and 1055 as in the Cold Steel machete's.
