  • I still love Helldivers 2, but it is in a bit of a low spot at the moment. So I wanted to highlight some of the top improvements that can be made which will restore this game to its former glory from just a few months ago.

    Get rid of mission modifier that limits you to 3 stratagems. Or at least let us pick a fourth, but lock access to it until we destroy AA Defense on the map.

    Its such a strange thing AH doesnt want a meta and weakens things, but that just pushes you even harder into picking the meta if you dont want to get overwhelmed.
    Also agree on armor, if we dont get new passives then at least give us more combinations of existing effects, like throw distance + extra grenades or limb health + extra padding. And 2 helmets in the game used to have secret passives before that was patched out, so i hope it returns (one gave like 5 extra speed at the cost of armor value and another did the inverse)

      Grenadier
      Increases initial inventory and holding capacity of grenades by "+2".
      Increases throwing range by "30%"

    Immagine a mission where you have to board and raid an automaton ship in orbit, instead of vast amount of space you got corridors and you only get the stuff you pick at the start
    Would be sick IMO

    While I don't agree on all points, I think the important thing here is the way you're framing this discussion in a constructive way. Our community definitely needs more of that to help counter other content creators who would rather divide the community to feed their numbers.
    Your suggestions are pretty solid! I think the playerbase is stretched across wanting many different things, so I don't feel like there's one area in particular that will "save" the game. The game will benefit from bug fixes, balance fixes, *and* more variety in content. All we can do is discuss and wait.

    I can't trust the devs until they prove their words. The first balance patch they said the breaker wasn't better than the other guns but because it was the most used it was getting nerfed anyway. Everything sounds great, but until something happens this game isn't fun for me anymore.

    super samples should show up on level 4 with 1 at that rock then add one per level.
    I would also like a weapon upgrade system where you buy a weapon like the punisher and then you unlock upgrade kits like chokes, longer barrels, bigger magazines, different ammo types and sights.
    I would also like to be able to see all the relavent stats like penetration, magazines, damage falloff like stats and so on.
    also there is no reason why the other two liberators should not be using a 45 round magazine.

      Absolutely not, super samples should stay on 7 and above as an incentive to get players to play the harder difficulties, instead of getting comfortable and staying on low difficulties forever. Low difficulties earn less XP and therefore less liberation for planets.

      @@ironboy3245 this would mean that level 7 missions would have 4 super samples at the rock. sometimes the super sample requirement on the last two tier two ship upgrades also discourages new players from going to into level 7+ difficulty. so having better stratagems will give more players confidence to go up and try harder difficulties is the reasoning.

      @@herosupport1606 the super sample requirements on the last 2 upgrades are meant to push new recruits into doing diff 7+ missions to push them out of their comfort zone. Your suggestion would allow them to stay where they are and never need to improve as a player

    I’ll like to see 3 increasingly OP stratagems unlocked at level 50, 100 and 150. Edit, or something like that, just stuff to aim for as we progress from the initial 50 cap.

    I know it's a bit unlikely but I long for a mission type that takes us to an inclosed space where you fight in tunnels or corridors

      I would actually write a love letter to the dev team if they made boarding actions a thing. Slamming into a bug invested astroid or Roboship and like the obj is to "melt the core down" would be sick.

    Some things I’d like AH to add/improve.
    1. A beastiary (they can use the consoles opposite the equipment area for that)
    2. New armour passives (less fire damage, not being slowed by blizzards and not sliding on ice)
    3. Allow use to trade slips for Super Credits (they can choose the conversion rate)
    4. Helmet passives (they could make some good ones like the ones in Steeled Veterans having an infrared view)

    I think they need a serious process flow overhaul internally. They should have been able to put updates together far quicker or at least get some sort of direction planned for where they plan to take things. I can deal with no updates in three weeks, that's no problem with one exception. No updates is fine but going radio silent on what sort of things we may see coming down the pipe is not a good sign.
    The one thing I don't see any excuse for not fixing is the rollback of the patrol changes. It can't be that hard to unflip that switch.
    As far as what I'd like to see: Mech hulls being separate from armament and allow the mix and match of weapons. Two miniguns? Sure. Auto cannon and rocket pod? no problem. Differentiate the hulls by armor, mobility, etc. Also, give them a smoke grenade launcher like a modern tank.
    I'd also like to see ammunition type unlocks where you pick what you're using before you drop. As in selecting between the current round, a high explosive, or armor piercing loadout for the auto cannon etc. This type of thing could be unlocked by progression or by warbond, making it so they don't have to add a ton of new weapons, they can just give variant options for the ones already there.
    I'd also like a spray selector for the flame thrower. Shorter range wider spray like we have now or narrower longer range shot selectable like changing fire modes on other weapons.

    i do enjoy our content, and even though i appreciate you having a light conversation here, i vehemently disagree with most of these ideas. in fact, i think some are terrible. that's not to say they are objectively terrible, as it's your opinion vs mine, but it highlights how the large audience all have different ideas on the direction of the game. so your ideas may seem like game savers to you, they seem like game killers to me. so we need to be patient with AH and allow them to unfold their vision before us. the game is amazing. one of the best live-service games we have ever received, and yet, the game is still only a few months old and there was a recent position shake-up and the team at AH is scrambling to repair distrust and bring in more lengthy-development-time content. as long as we can discuss various topics civilly and be patient, we can keep the hostility and toxic discourse at bay and we will eventually be wowed by all the new content in our futures. looking forward to your next video covering hd2.

    Couldn't agree more. The game is great and has so much potential, it just needs a nice kick in the ass, but the devs have been pretty good and are listening to us so far.

      Yeah these devs put years into this game. They can’t afford to just let it die in a year or two. Maybe it’s not in its best state, but for now, I wouldn’t say I’m worried

      @@epsilon1372 Ehh, I want to agree, but at the same time, it's grown quite common as of late for games to release, bomb, and the company gets shut down. While Helldivers might not have bombed, if enough players leave, Sony may back out of funding continued development, thereby dooming the game.

    I agree with all these points. Being able to upgrade weapons would be great, new maps/urban would be great. Armor is better than before but needs work. Also, customizing sentries and upgrading sentries would be a great idea.

    Urban scenes. Even some city ruins would give a totally new feel for the dives with tight alleyways and blind corners.

    The camera man idea would be incredible. Especially if it had some sort of clip feature that you could maybe watch back after the mission of just a few AI selected or maybe clipped by the camera man just to have a silly recap after 40 minutes of no holds barred adrenaline fueled thrill ride of the mission. Would be hilarious.

    The game has a TON of potential, but they really need to focus on allowing the players to feel strong as we're fighting the enemies of Super Earth. Guns and stratagems and equipment need to feel like they bring a massive punch and FUN factor when you choose to use them.
    A quick example and comparison; the Helldivers jetpack vs the Planetside 2 jetpacks. Helldivers allows you one small boost, and then 20 seconds cooldown. Planetside 2 jetpacks allows way more use before need to reload, and the reload itself is way faster than 20 seconds. This allows for more fun as you active picked "hey, I want to use a jetpack!" in your stratagems.
    The balance team and dev team need to take a serious look at things that are not performing "fun", and are underused, or players have feedback on. The key thing to keep in mind, this is is a PvE title (player versus environment) and not a PvP title (player versus player) so you don't need things to be perfectly super balanced or fit neatly into a spreadsheet of calculated numbers.
    Another example would be the recent gutwrenching nerf to the Eruptor. Eruptor at launch = slow to fire, and clunky and unwieldy but it packed a PUNCH with a very fun to use AoE effect with the shrapnel. This was a fun design which actually made sense with the name; Eruptor.
    Then someone said "ok, lets remove 50% of all ammo".
    Then someone said "ok, lets make it so that projectiles now ricochet TOWARDS the players."
    This lead to some explosions blowing up in players faces. People got very annoyed.
    Then someone said "ok, now let's REMOVE the explosion, and add a base +40 damage, now it's fine".
    Turns out it was not fine. Now the Eruptor has lost it's entire function and fun factor. Now we have a sniper-slug rifle instead of a grenade sniper.
    I really hope they revert some of the silly changes that made some weapons and strats and support-weapons feel pointless and useless.
    Allow fun again please devs ❤

    I just need content updates, and ones that actually work and aren’t bugged out. Also having MO’s that are literally impossible to complete with our current player count is a huge buzzkill. The amount of MO’s affected by huge bugs that hamper completing the mission is a major problem.

    I'm getting done with waiting around for a fix. Getting to the point where I'm thinking of ways to send a message or make a video that's addressed to the devs so I can be like "excuse me, are you deaf, blind, and stupid? What the hell you tryna do to your game?!"
    Like these guys are actively pissing me off with their decisions.

    I like that super samples are only found on higher difficulties. Its a badge of skill.
    And do players that only play on low difficulty really need the buffs you buy with super samples, anyways?

    They nerf guns like it’s a PvP, PvE do not need these nerfs.
    Pretty sure there is going to be a major patch within the next two weeks which hopefully address this.

      I think raids would be awesome. Imagine larger, more elaborate mission types. You could even combine existing missions.... Extract HVP, transmit data, collect launch codes, launch missile, and destroy automatons. You could have an hour... hour-fifteen to complete and they would be single mission operations with high reward.

    Agree with all your points. Beyond that, I think my biggest issue with the game right now, is that this is a teamwork game and there’s almost no effort to encourage teamwork. If you don’t have a squad that plays frequently, you are playing with randoms that don’t have their mics on, you are minimally coordinated at best. I think there should be platoons (group that is larger than squadrons) that you can join that has a large pool of like-minded players that are interested in using their mics, and helping new players along. So while maybe your squad isn’t on today, but you have some pre-vetted players that you know will be good to play with. Maybe that platoon has some dedicated “Squad leaders” which are committed to using mics and organizing the mission. Ideally, you’d be able to spectate other players games, and have more than one squads worth of players on your ship between missions. Let’s say that you have 8 players in your friend group, you could all be on one ship chatting, divide into 2 squads. The first squad finishes their mission in 30 minutes, and they then go and spectate the other squads mission, cheering them or giving them tips until they complete it. Then they return to the ship together and can divide the group naturally into 2 different squads. At the very least you should be able to filter players out by mic users vs silent players.
    They could also give bonuses for “team work”. Maybe your squad can donate newbies weapons they haven’t unlocked yet and aren’t using. Maybe the personal mission is to get 3 new friends in the game or playing a mission with an existing friend. Maybe your personal mission is to peer-reload someone elses anti-tank weapon or bring the support pack into 3 missions.
    My second biggest issue is that the game difficulty is very different depending on whether you are playing with 1-2 players compared to a full 4. It really sucks that you start a game not knowing how many players there will be. Maybe you are on level 4 because it’s just you and one friend and you can’t be sure that you’ll get 4, but you would prefer to play level 7. They should let you choose the level 7 and say that it won’t start until a full 4 is found and the game gives you priority randoms to fill the squad. Alternatively, if you only want to play solo or with X friends, they should let you limit the squad size to a maximum of whatever you choose.

      I'm with you on the platoons or squads to join, but I had a bigger idea of having even larger units with unique perks like an extra permanent strategem. The Devs could 'create' new units and either have players 'elect' a leader who decides where the unit is stationed, or the devs themselves can move units around so people have some variety, at least in the planets, environments, biomes, and enemies. They could make them based on real military units like "the 75th Helldiver Regiment" or "the 501st Helldiver Legion" etc.
      Agree completely with the difficulty part. It's so inconsistent now. I've had some Helldive missions be pretty chill and doable, but others are total chaos. Even on lower levels, it's insane. I played a level 4 last night, completed both objectives, and went to kill the last bug nest, and only then did any chargers appear. I hit the first one with a railcannon, then turned around and saw another, killed it, and saw yet another. Eventually I just booked it for the extraction. I ended that mission with 493 kills. My average in any mission is 100+.

    I feel the Eruptor is a perfect example of a gun that had a specific identity, was fun to play with, and had downsides and upsides in that it had good dmg output being able to take out medium enemies and groups of smaller enemies as well as bot fabricators and bug holes, but with the downside of a slow rate of fire being bolt action, bad at close range and the weapon itself being very unyielding and heavy to handle. What do they go and do?? They nerf into the ground and now I see no one use it anymore like c’mon it’s a PVE only game let us have fun and players will stick around it’s that goddamn simple.

    I find the meta spawns out of a player need to be independently powerful, which is counterproductive for a game based on teamwork but unless you're playing with friends or with an exceptional group of randoms willing to communicate, you're forced to be independently powerful. So if you join a group of randoms with an off meta build (Ems/smoke strikes, supply backpack but no support weapons, HMG emplacement and shield tower on something other than defense etc), never mind what weapons you run, unless they're cool and see the use of such a loadout, people are going to think "Oh no, this guy is going to drag us down because he can't handle anything on his own".
    Admittedly, the game itself does little to support a more passive playstyle as well. Only way to be medic so far is to run a medic armor, take the supply backpack and stay on top of teammate to try to heal them. And even then you'd better be able to sling some lead/laser/plasma decently cause nobody is going to tolerate you just sitting back and waiting for them to get hurt either.

    I thought of upgrade max ammo capacity, faster reload speed (or cool down the quasar or the strategems), more/better armor perching

    Armor, for different environments - just thinking about armor that reduces fire damage on planets with fire tornados !?
    Sample trading/upgrading would be cool, for example - in Deep Rock Galactic there is a trading panel for the different resources you can sell and buy with rates changing.

    Great ideas here Doc. New mission types and level designs are needed to keep the game fresh. A raid on a big base to capture and retrieve something whilst fighting your way out sounds awesome.
    Increasing the cost of things at a higher rank would be good for the games economy.
    I feel bad for the team at Arrowhead. It feels like the player base just constantly complain about the game.
    I love Helldivers2 and hope it reaches beyond it's potential.

    A cool concept would be actually building some missions where you have to split your forces as part of it vs opting to do a 2 man split. A boss bug map would be cool , where there is a high HP/small difference in appearance , attack pattern, look , ect bile titan or strider , that will harass your team and respawn consistently after clearing an obj until the last obj is finished and then it is "defeated". As far as asap stuff, yeah I think balancing patches and bug fixes should be the big thing. At level 9 Im still getting tons of bugs that destroy the fun , mostly buggy extract ( 1 person gets into ship, ship leaves with no countdown), and Obj being bugged out ( im looking at you rocket defense mission). I've got everything maxed out atm, samples, req, medals. The only reason I play is I enjoy picking up random SoS and helping people farm for samples. I like being able to not be tied to the game with a ball and chain , compared to a game like warthunder...., so I hope they dont make the game super grindy, but I agree there should be optional grind items that can be obtained as a bonus in between the big warbonds. For example, it be cool that if you have a maxxed out sample set, it automatically applies mission samples towards unlocking a scientist lab coat suit or something like that.

    Spending resources and xp on weapon upgrades would be great. Strategems are already maxed, but i would like them both to be a upgrade system with choices.
    E.g.
    - Eagle strike gain 1 more bomb, OR bomb radius increase.
    - Mech ammo is increased by 50% OR 1 additional use.
    - carry 1 more ammo clip, or 1 more grenade, or 1 more stim
    ...

      Weapon upgrades can include different kinds of ammo, such as special high-explosive armor-penetrating rounds for the autocannon or incendiary rounds for the liberator. They can also give the AMR super armor penetration and the potential to kill bile titans.

      it got lot of hype from youtubers n memes wich got a massive pool of players. this is people who did not end up liking it leaving n dere was the entire psn fisco too that lowered pc numbers

      iwe seen people use just about every single weapon besides like assault rifles wich could use some love and mby marksman rifles.
      and nerfs didint kill the fucking weapon and theyr still good, breakers still widely used, explosive crossbow is still awesome (use it myself btw), sickle is still one of the best weapons in the game for that type category ,dominator still dominates. only wep that i agree was too nerfed was eruptor that was jus silly but all others did not even remotely kill the weapons

    OP guns will absolutely break the game. The fascination with the game is from the struggle. Something like original breaker and railgun for sure had to go.

      I think saying people want a challenge, not a struggle, is more accurate. Slogging through 30 to 40 minutes every mission gets old quickly as evidenced in the player count. These missions are extremely repetitive so being able to have excitement with a large variety of weapons is key to keeping people around.

      Railgun wasn't even op, it was nerfed because they didn't bother fixing a bug until after they ruined railgun.
      How was breaker overpowered? I didn't use it before the nerf but seriously HOW was it overpowered? The only thing it had over the current one was the ammo per mag, and nowadays no one uses it because the ammo sucks balls.

    Here’s how Armors should work: Heavy armor should give 200 defense and extra padding heavy armors should give 250-300 defense. certain helmets get perks according to visor color. Red = Thermal vision, Green/Blue = Night Vision, yellow/Gold= Stalkers/Enemies receive highlight effect around their bodies, Any helmet with antennas should get “Spider Senses/ rear enemy detention sensors” that alert you when enemies are coming up behind you. Any Helmet with Len’s installed get zoom modifiers regardless of weapon. SA-25 Steel Trooper Helmet should Combo with SA-12 Servo Assisted Armor to unlock a Shoulder auto targeting mounted mini motor launcher. Drone Master Armor should be in the Light Category and it would be nice for it to get a drone perk.

      Heavy armor not only needs more HP, but it should also have stagger and ragdoll resistance. You need to be able to stand your ground and fight in order to make choosing it over speed worthwhile.

    I know I'm in the minority here, but one thing I heavily disagree with most of the community on is that I don't want this game to be a power fantasy.
    I don't want to feel like Masterchief or the Doomslayer when I'm playing HD2. I want to feel like a grunt who's in way over his head and is just scraping by with what they're given. The game is most enjoyable to me when matches are super close and we barely make it to extraction. Hell, even losses are enjoybable if it feels like we could've made it but just had some bad luck.
    I'm honestly scared that with everyone being like "no nerf only buff" AH is gonna give in to popular demand, abandon their original vision for the game and I'm gonna lose out on those moments.

      They've stated they plan on implementing more difficulty levels. The first one had 15. I think this is the way to satisfy everyone on both sides.

      Helldivers aren't grunts though, SEAF soldiers are grunts. Helldivers are elite commando units that are launched deep behind enemy lines to attack critical infrastructure. The only reason they're both elite and disposable is due to the sheer quantity of humans available to Super Earth across all the colonies.

      @@MisterZimbabwe He's looking for an "Operation Red Wings" scenario. While you are correct about SEAF and Helldiver roles, tier-1 operators experience these kinds of scenarios all the time; you just don't hear about it. I really think both groups of people can be accommodated within the infrastructure of the existing game.

      Here's the thing. You can make the game as hard as you want it to be. Play solo or with less teammates. Bring underperforming gear. There are plenty of options even if some items become a lot better

    As some armor passives are already are two passives in one, they should really just make every armour two passives.
    Single line passives lile Extra Padding +50 now just get Extra Padding +25 Twice.
    This also means that you could have the Extra Grenades from the Engineering Kit, _no_ recoil reduction, but 25 Extra Padding.
    Will spawn much more armour variety!
