How to Play as a Fullback in the Defensive Phase:Tips for Success in 2023 | Footy Tactics

In this video, we'll explore the role of fullbacks in the defensive phase of play. In this phase of play, your main job is to DEFEND! Here are the 3 main components you need to focus on in the defensive phase:
1) Close the Space - Pressure the wide player and let them know you are there. If possible, pressure that first touch and make a tackle. If the player has gained full control, it's better to contain and stand them up.
2) Stay in Good Defensive shape - stay compact with your Centerback but also be aware of the opponent.
3) Force Play Backwards - If the have their back to goal, step up. If they are facing you up, drop off.
