Brooklyn Bridegrooms are today known as the Los Angeles Dodgers.
While in Brooklyn they were known as the
    Grays
    Atlantics
Bridegrooms (because a lot of players got married one season)
    Superbas
And finally the Brooklyn Trolley Dodgers (because the fans would have to literally dodge trolleys (streetcars) outside the stadium)

You should do a video about the 1962 Mets... 40 wins, 120 losses... and there are SO MANY stories around that team... Their manager (Casey Stengel, a LEGEND in the game who played in the 1910s-20s and managed the Yankees to 7 Championships in 10 seasons) was borderline senile... a guy (Marvin Eugene Throneberry... M.E.T.) hits a triple but gets called out for missing second base... Mets manager comes out to argue. First base coach stops him and says "he missed first base too!" ... "Yo La Tengo!" (I got it! Shortstop didn't speak english and would run into outfielders chasing after short pop flies... and the "solution" to the problem didn't change a thing.) ... 2 losing streaks of 15+ games... Their top 4 pitchers had records of 10-24, 8-20, 6-19 and 1-12. They lost their first 9 games. They lost 30 games in the 7th inning or later. The team found so many new ways to lose! And the "Amazing" part... the Mets drew more fans to the ballpark than the Yankees (who won the World Series that year!). From 1962-1965 the Mets lost over 100 games every season, and got more people to come to the ballpark than the Yankees, who made it to, or won, the World Series 3 out of those 4 years! In fact, it wasn't until the late 1970's before the Yankees sold more tickets than the Mets!
But seriously.. if you enjoyed this video, you will LOVE the Amazin Mets in their first season!

Most of those 1898 teams are still in baseball, just under other names. The Boston Beaneaters are now the Atlanta Braves; the Chicago Orphans went through a couple more nicknames before becoming the Cubs, and I believe the Brooklyn Bridegrooms became the Brooklyn-then-Los-Angeles Dodgers.
The Baltimore Orioles of 1898, however, *do not* exist anymore; the modern Baltimore Orioles are a completely different franchise.
No, he did not actually play for the Braves in 2001. He's joking based on the fact that the Braves had 47 players appear in at least one game that year -- in a league where rosters have 25 players. 23 were hitters and 24 were pitchers. They must have had a lot of injuries.

Ironically enough, my dad’s dad was a huge Philadelphia A’s fan when he was young & said he was devastated when they left Philly. It took him years to become a Phillies fan. My mom’s dad (from Brooklyn) saw the Brooklyn Dodgers leave & later became a Yankees fan, which worked out great because my grandmom is from the Bronx. I also have a ton of family (mom’s side) from Los Angeles and are LA Dodgers fans but my grand pop never liked them after they left Brooklyn.

1:39 - While you did point out the 4 teams who have familiar city/name combos and I'm sure you recognized the Giants team name, the story of the teams listed is actually much, much, much more complicated than that:
    1. Boston Beaneaters - Still in existence. Changed their names to the Doves in 1907, the Rustlers in 1911, and then the Braves in 1912. They would then move to become the Milwaukee Braves in 1953 and then to Atlanta in 1966 to become the modern Atlanta Braves.
    2. Baltimore Orioles - This National League team ceased to exist after the 1899 season. Another major league team named the Baltimore Orioles was a charter member of the American League and played from 1901-1902. That team was pretty much disbanded and what was left of their remains was sold and moved to New York to become the New York Highlanders (since there wasn't much left of the Orioles as the team and most of its players were sold, this is looked at as a separate franchise by most record books). The Highlanders would change their name to the Yankees in 1913 (same team). In the meantime, there was another founding member of the American League then called the Milwaukee Brewers who moved to become the St. Louis Browns in 1902 and then moved to become the modern Baltimore Orioles in 1953.
    3. Cincinnati Reds - This is, in fact, the same team as now.
    4. Chicago Orphans - You'll know them better as the Chicago Cubs as they have been since 1903.
    5. Cleveland Spiders - As the video says, disbanded after that 1899 season. They were succeeded by founding American League team the Cleveland Blues in 1901. They became the Bronchos in 1902, the Naps in 1903, the Indians in 1915, and the Guardians in 2022.
    6. Philadelphia Phillies - Also the same team as now.
    7. New York Giants - Same team that moved to San Francisco in 1958.
    8. Pittsburgh Pirates - Same team. Also the same team as that 1890 Alleghenys team that finished 23-113.
    9. Louisville Colonels - Folded completely after 1899 season.
    10. Brooklyn Bridegrooms - Still in existence. They couldn't really settle on a permanent and official name for the next 30 or so years bouncing around between Superbas (don't ask me what that is), the Robins, the Trolley Dodgers, and the Dodgers. In 1932, they became permanently and only known as the Dodgers moving to LA in 1958.
    11. Washington Senators - This National League team also ceased to exist after the 1899 season. They were also succeeded by a charter American League member of the same name in 1901 but, unlike that Orioles team, this one is still in existence. They moved to become the modern Minnesota Twins in 1961.
    12. St. Louis Browns - Also still in existence. As the video mentioned, changed their name to the Perfectos in 1899 and then to the Cardinals in 1900.
Long story short, American sports team names are either suuuuuuper traditional or suuuuuuper unoriginal depending on your point of view.
As for underperforming seasons, the 2023 Mets are on track for that but it's hard to gage because we tend to give up thinking about disappointing teams. We tend to only focus on good and great teams or historically terrible ones. This idea would actually make a pretty good Foolish Baseball video.
Best sports moment for Cleveland? My sarcastic answer is the fictional events of the movie Major League (one of my all-time favorite baseball movies). Seriously, probably the Cavs, then the 1948 Indians World Series winners before that. Close were probably some of the more memorable moments of their disappointing seasons such as Rajai Davis' game-tying homer in the 9th of Game 7 of the 2016 World Series.

“Just a reminder, fans, comin' up is our "Die-hard Night" here at the stadium. Free admission to anyone who was actually alive the last time the Indians won a pennant.”- Harry Doyle

Now this is an obscure story! As somewhat of a baseball history nerd I was aware of the 1899 Cleveland Spiders, but I didn't know all the details. Thanks for watching this video. You seemed to miss at the end of the video that 1899 was the last season for the Spiders. But it wasn't just them; three other teams went out of business.
The video briefly mentioned that the Spiders played many of their home games on the road. Some teams refused to travel to Cleveland, because with an average attendance of only 145 per game, road teams were not paid enough to even cover their travel expenses. As a result, the Spiders lost a record 101 road games in a season with only 77 of them scheduled. This record cannot be broken, since moving games is no longer allowed, unless there's an emergency.

The Boston being eaters in this video began as a franchise in 1871, the second oldest in all of baseball only to the Cincinnati Reds. Eventually, they changed their name to the Boston Braves, then relocated to Milwaukee to become the Milwaukee Braves. After a short time in Milwaukee, they relocated to become the current Atlanta Braves. The Baltimore orioles in a twist of irony aren’t actually the Baltimore orioles that we see today. They relocated to become the New York Hilltoppers, eventually, the New York Yankees. The St. Louis Browns relocated to become the Baltimore orioles and then they were replaced with the St. Louis Cardinals.

The original St. Louis Browns became the perfectos and then the Cardinals. When the American League formed, they put a team in St. Louis and called it the Browns (because it was an established name in St. Louis that some fans missed). It was this second, newer Browns that left and became the Orioles. The Cardinals are the older team.

In honor of losing and the Oakland A's, you guys need to have a look at when the A's were once the best organization in Baseball. The A's literally transformed the look of MLB. And had some amazing stars, Hall of Fame Players: Catfish Hunter, Vida Blue, Rollie Fingers, Blue Moon Odom, Bert Campaneris, Ray Fosse, Gene Tenace, Sal Bando, Joe Rudi, and the great Reggie Jackson. Not just talented but one of the most colorful, quirky, motley lot of players ever assembled. Quality videos may be a little tough to find as the 70s were before the age of the Internet and video. Still, it was an amazing era. My favorite in Baseball. I will get off my butt and maybe try and find a few videos. Or long time A's fans from the Bay may know where to look? Worth a dive.

The 1962 Mets (who went 40-120) were a first-year expansion team, and the 1899 Spiders were, as you see from this video, a feeder team. 2011- They didn't make the playoffs. They had a 9 game lead in the AL Wild Card going into September, and a mix of them struggling and the Rays going on a tear led to their downfall. It also happened to the Braves in the NL WC picture where they had a similar lead, only for them to struggle and the Cardinals to come back. And that comeback propelled STL to the 2011 World Series Title.
2012- The Bobby V led Red Sox were a dysfunctional mess, but they actually were NOT the worst team in MLB. The Sox went 69-93, but the Indians (68-94), Twins (66-96), Rockies (64-98), Cubs (61-101) and Astros (55-107) had worse records. The Marlins finished with an identical 69-93 as the Sox as well.
2013- Well, ya got that one right. The John Farrell led 2013 Red Sox came out of the gate flying, overcame the tragic Boston Marathon Bombing, put the city on their backs, cruised to an MLB best 97-65, got some retribution on the Rays in the ALDS, got through a very tense 6 Game ALCS with the Tigers, and outlasted the Cardinals in 6 Games to win their 3rd WS Title in 10 seasons. Close to the worst team in baseball that year. The Minnesota Twins, Cleveland Indians, Houston Astros, and my team the Colorado Rockies all were worse than the Red Sox that year. The Marlins had the same record as the Red Sox that year as well.

I told anyone that listened before that series began, that whoever won that series was gonna win the WS, I didn't care who came out of the NL. And sure enough, it was a nerve wrecking series that I'd put up along with the 2004 ALCS vs. NYY as one of the most tense baseball series I've ever watched.

The Boston Beaneaters still exist as the Atlanta Braves, and the Brooklyn Bridegrooms/Superbas as the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Baltimore Orioles of the 19th century were a different team from today's Orioles.
The Cleveland Browns football team was very successful in the forties, fifties and sixties, winning the All American Football Conference championship in 1946, 1947, 1948, and 1949, and the NFL championship in 1954, 1955, and 1964 (the AAFC was a separate league from the NFL). The Cleveland Indians (now the Guardians) won the World Series in 1948. Those were the glory years of sports in Cleveland. Things went pretty badly from the mid-sixties until LeBron James returned to the Cavaliers in 2014, and then won the NBA championship in 2016.

At the time there was only one league, and owners could be in ownership of multiple teams. What happened here was really why the other major league was formed. The Chcago Orphans was really the same team as the Cubs, they simply were called the Orphans because they bounced around ballparks, playing in 3 in 4 years. They were also called the Colts and White Stockings before they became the Cubs in 1903 after some bear cubs were used as mascots.
