- This impressive 1/3 scale Messerschmitt ME-163 showed up for a test flight in preperation for an airshow. AIRWORLD Company team pilot Thomas Gleissner starts up the powerful turbine and puts it through its paces showing a rare great performing large scale jet.
Nice high and low speed handling qualities are displayed as well as low level aerobatics some high power climbs and very fast flybys.
Full modern GFK/CFK composite fibreglass kit available. Take off weight is around 22 kg.
Filmed at our local model flying field FMC Kinzigtal east of Frankfurt on October 13th.

Stayed in the air much longer than the original. Kinda makes you wonder how effective it would have been if they used a turbine instead of a rocket. Less people melting too.

Yes, Thomas is one of the best sticks and there are 3 NACA air intakes, two under the wing roots and one under the nose.

The modern replica could have a retractable dolly system, especially with todays high strength lightweight alloys.
What fuel do you use to fly that Messerschmitt ME-163? I would be very surprised if it was just the average automobile gasoline...

I did a 1/72 diorama of the Me 163 landed after a mission! Is there any technical reason why no RC 163 model I have ever seen, including this one, has a skid extending mechanism for landing? I mean, builders who can scratch build such a beauty, should have no problem adding an extending skid!
Hello, I bet your landing scene looks interesting ! You are right, models dont use any skid I guess because a belly landing works like on a glider model without a shock absorber like on the real one. Also the skid extended to release the wheels if i remember correctly. Horrido !

Yes, its a low drag beaut ! And has docile flight charagteristics ! Just a little different to normal planes.
One of our German guys at our field would have to say "Needs Mooooor Pooowwweeerrr" !!! Likely every field has one of those guys :) Fantastic accomplishment with a difficult subject no doubt.

Where is the air intake? The original Me 163 war a rocket plane, not a turbine plane.
