    Awesome video! Until I watched this video, I was unable to do a non LNAV/PREV ils approach. Even though I'd read about using V/L, for whatever, it didn't click until I saw you do it. Thanks again!

      Great! The airplane is not terribly hard to fly but it does need some specific training to make the most of it.
      P.S. Love your youtube avatar. :)

      @@CaptNabs Yeah, I have an AOM, of course it covers 4 or 5 models. I haven't been going thru it as carefully as I should. Watching your video, made me feel a little embarrassed as I'm certain the procedure is in the aom, I guess my saving grace is that you can do all the "book learning" you want. But until you see it, it isn't real. Thanks again!

      @@CaptNabs This one got me too! I was already in HDG mode, and somehow, I decided to use PREV mode, instead of V/L. I was surprised why since the AP was armed, and LOC and GS were showing on the FMA, there was no capture of either one.

    I keep watching this set of videos.. the only thing I didn't catch, was when to set the AUTO BRAKES. I'm assuming when doing your initial checks at 10,000 feet. I guess any time before you need them will work, but me being a creature that lives and dies by checklists when simming, I need a consistent time to do these things. Thanks again for the awesome videos!

    • @CaptNabs
      @CaptNabs  7 місяців тому +1

      Here's the fun part.
      Autobrakes are an optional system on the Embraer, one that our operator chose not to get.
      So I don't have autobrakes as part of my normal procedures.
      I would suggest that autobrakes should be set as part of the approach setup/briefing prior to Top of Descent. A recheck to ensure your desired setting is selected at 10000 feet would be a smart idea, but it was simply never part of our checklists.

      @@CaptNabs First, let me say thank you for the comeback! I super appreciate the advice as to where to put it on my checklist. I guess I took the autobrake as standard equipment. Take care!

    How do you enable alt callout? I fly E175 and E190 from FSS a few times, never hear the callouts, making a good landing a bit more difficult.

    Love this tutorial series. Thank you very much! Since there is no VNAV (TOD) implemented yet, is there currently a way to type in a waypoint in the MCDU and get it to calculate distance and time to that waypoint?

    • @enriqueosuna
      @enriqueosuna 7 місяців тому

      I use (Crz Alt-Destination Alt)/100/A + 10 = TOD where A=3 for 3 degree glidepath, or A=3.5 for 3.5 degree glidepath, and so forth.

    No "autopilot" aural warning when disconnecting? That's a shame. Pretty close to real life, but as you said, it needs more work. I saw a few things that don't match the real aircraft, but your procedures are almost on track with an actual airline. It's refreshing, as there are a lot of "tutorials" about the 175 that are far afield from reality.

    • @CaptNabs
      @CaptNabs  11 місяців тому

      The Embraers especially suffer from a lack of accurate info on the net when compared to the 737 or A320. I hope I helped to fill that gap, even though the airplane is a work in progress.

    When I hit the PREV button I get VOR instead of LOC how do I fix that?

    • @CaptNabs
      @CaptNabs  7 місяців тому

      The system will automatically detect the type of navaid in use based on the frequency selected. Be sure the correct frequency is showing on the appropriate NAV radio on the MCDU > RADIO page. LOC will only show if an ILS frequency is selected.
      Note that the first tap of the PREV button selects the on-side NAV radio (eg NAV1 for Left seat, NAV2 for Right seat). Tapping PREV again selects the offside NAV radio. Tapping PREV a 3rd time turns off Preview Mode.

    Howdy, i have a bizzare request. I want to understand how to get this bad boy to work specifically om the ILS 28C in to O'Hare. I cant for the life of me get it to capture the glideslope if you cross LNDUH @ 9000 ft. Any help is appreciated!

    • @CaptNabs
      @CaptNabs  5 місяців тому

      My first idea is that MSFS strictly defines localizer/glideslope transmission limits per standard ILS requirements, but IRL at major airports with long final approaches, the power/reach is often much higher than normal. MSFS does not simulate this.
      Therefore, you will need to follow the published stepdowns until the glideslope appears. This seems to happen around 12-15 miles final. LNDUH is too far. Even the LOC in the simulator only extends about 18-20 miles.
      You can try the VNAV, or do it manually one step at a time.

  • @JoeDFWAviation
    @JoeDFWAviation 3 місяці тому

    What if atc asks you to join the localizer? Do you hit nav?

    • @CaptNabs
      @CaptNabs  3 місяці тому +1

      Yes, but you must make sure you change the HSI until LOC1 is active on the HSI. Unlike APP which will automatically change to LOC1, NAV will engage whatever is the current mode on the HSI: FMS or VOR/LOC.

    What throttles (hardware) do you use for the FSS E-175 throttle and reversers? I have the Honeycomb Bravo and did follow the instructions from Aerosoft, but it is not so reliable for me. Thanks for your help.

    • @CaptNabs
      @CaptNabs  7 місяців тому

      I use the Bravo as well. I dont seem to have too many issues. Just push it forward at takeoff, then careful to touch it again once the autothrust is on.

    • @enriqueosuna
      @enriqueosuna 7 місяців тому

      @@CaptNabs But how do you apply the reverse thrust? The Aerosoft 1-minute tutorial, indicates the assign BUTTON 26 to the Toggle Reverse Thrust in the Power Management config for the Bravo, the pull thrust back to activate the BUTTON 26, but the push forward to TO/GA power to activate Max Reverse. It is a little weird. What do you do to activate reverse? Do you use the Bravo?

    • @CaptNabs

      Most likely should have been in altitude hold (ALT). The best way to intercept a glideslope is always from below.

    I have a weird problem where everything works except when I try to descend below FL200 the plane literally won't let me. Even if I turn autopilot off and try to force it down, it just bobs right back up. Know what that's about? I haven't seen anyone else with this problem yet.

    • @CaptNabs
      @CaptNabs  Рік тому

      That is weird, and I don't know what to suggest. I have had lots of trouble with FLCH mode, but with the autopilot off you should be able to push the airplane wherever you want. It doesn't have the Normal Law protections of an Airbus. I would suggest retesting and if it keeps up, maybe a reinstall. Or consider messaging the developers directly via their Discord. I am only a beta tester.

      @@gringoloco8576 In the real world, VNAV is available. The latest aircrraft update introduced a new autopilot with VNAV. Originally the code was piggybacked on MSFS autopilot and FMC which have very limited functionality, but the end goal is a fully custom FMS and autopilot to follow real.world procedures.

    Not a good tutorial as you don't demonstrate where you get the data for the approach and assume everyone knows already

    • @CaptNabs
      @CaptNabs  10 місяців тому +8

      Well that depends on what your goals are. My tutorial is designed to teach people how to fly the E175 specifically. To keep the tutorial to a reasonable length, I don't bother with basics. There are plenty of tutorials that teach how to read charts and other IFR basics. If I explained all of that, this tutorial would have been an hour or two long. So I definitely accomplished what I set out to do: teach the specifics of operating the E175.
