GST Council Meet | Solar Cookers At 12% GST | 12% GST On Milk Cans | Nirmala Sitharaman

Chaired by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, the Pre-Budget Meeting with State Finance Ministers was successfully held today, setting the stage for upcoming fiscal discussions. The 53rd GST Council Meeting, chaired by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also concluded with several key decisions, focusing on compliance easing and taxpayer relief. The next GST Council Meeting is scheduled for mid-August.
Among the major outcomes, the council announced an interest and penalty waiver under Section 73 of the GST Act.
For appeals, the monetary limit has been set at Rs 20 lakh, with Rs 1 crore for High Court appeals and Rs 2 crore for Supreme Court appeals.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also outlined several taxpayer-friendly changes to the GST Act. Hostel services will now be exempt from GST, providing relief to students and educational institutions.
Additionally, the FM announced tax relief for apple growers, a 12% GST on all solar cookers, and a 12% GST on milk cans, aiming to support various sectors and promote sustainable practices.
