- My carpet layout has undergone several changes since my PE video last Christmas. Most notable is I now have an O-60 loop inside an O-72 loop. There are a couple sidings with operating accessories. I show some of these in this video. I hope you all enjoy this.
Lionel scale Polar Express
PM 1225 and Polar Express Tender.
Atlas RPO custom painted by Jeff Sohn.
K-Line Operating Milk Car painted by me.
Lionel scale Polar Express passenger coach and observation car. The observation car went through a heavy modification...done by me.
I airbrushed all roofs with Floquil Graphite then used Doc O'Brien's weathering powder to simulate wind blown snow.
Copy and paste the following to see a how-to on Winter weathering my passenger cars...

oh goodness, the memories...

Oh the years have passed and I am finally watching this again!
this video has a special place in my heart
I use to watch this all the time when I was 3-5 years old.
I did when I was 8 or 9
This was one of the first UA-cam vids I ever watched
Same here!!
Christmas 2012 is just a few weeks old but watched some Christmas Movies tonight, listened to Christmas music (Polar Exp) and finishing with this train set, the magic is still here, the New Year can wait a little longer. Thanks a bunch.

Thank you. Lionel did a great job on this locomotive. My prized piece.
Did lionel make your amazing one that you have?

Pretty cool train sets you had running, I like the fact that you had 2 trains running, pretty cool 😎😎
I remember watching this video it brings back so many memories when I first watched it
Many thanks! It has been fun customizing the cars.
@MrTejano44 Thank you. This set has been fun to work on. I had a toy train when I was young. Grew out of it and returned to the hobby several years ago. Boy have things changed.
Love video where Polar Express I wish you many more. Those videos
Still my favorite polar express vid on UA-cam :)

This is kinda nostalgic for me but I’m happy I found this again
Golden Spike Productions, same
Nice job, Keith. Thank you very much for sharing your videos with us too. You are a kid at heart & that is a very good thing. I like to think that most of us who enjoy trains both toy & the real thing are kids at heart. Have a nice day & a good week also.
Hi Keith. You have a very nice setup. Now all you need is a layout & you'll really have some fun, especially with the neat ideas & layouts you can think of. Have fun!
My all time favorite train video! I watch it at least once a week! lol
Many thanks!!
@TheArtsyTuber Thank you! It is still coming along. Soon I will be adding a tubular line that will have my coal trestle and a coal tipple.
I have been following your work on the OGR Forum and just have to say your little modifications are just incredible. Thanks for sharing.
I am in love with the passenger cars!
Great job on he Polar Express train.
All aboard!this is the polar express!
I'm getting o gauge polar express when it's my birthday and I like this video :)
Awesome!!!! Congratulations On All Your Hard Work Putting This Train Together...Thanks For Sharing This Video!!!
Holy cow! Just checked the preorders out. The gold 1225 looks tempting
My childhood is back😍😚
Very cool! I love the attention to detail
Sweet! I got the Lionel Polar Express set this Christmas from Sears. I have a lot of old Pre-war and post-war stuff but haven't gotten anything "new" in 30 years. Haven't removed it from the box yet. I hope it is half the set-up you have. Poor folks that have to pick up those logs in the snow!
Very impressive!
hi Jennifer
l
I
I like the PM 1225. She'd look nice on my loop.
Thanks so much, I've been looking for this link! Lol
I knew I'd read it a while ago but I was having trouble finding it!
Thanks again!
I made your trains in minecraft
Thx a lot!
I enjoyed the coal loading
I am your number one fan!
I have the PM 1225 literally under my skin.
I got the tattoo I always wanted and when I saw the Lionel Polar Express logo I had it tattooed on my right upper arm. She’s also my UA-cam icon.
Hi Ron! I custom mixed the paint. Using Floquil Railroad enamels shot through an airbrush. The formula is 4 parts Reefer Gray...1 part CSX Blue(GLS)...slowly add Reefer white-not quite 1 part. Thin per bottle recommendation with Testors enamel thinner.
After a day or so, I clear coated with a 50/50/ mix of Floquil flat and their Crystal Cote. Thin per bottle with Testors.
Hope this helps.
Nostalgic
@MthRailFanatic Thank you...glad you like it.
Outstanding layout! Great lineside views in the video with plenty of operational action....I found myself watching and looking forward to what I was going to see next. Loved it! :-)

why does it sound like a army radio before it started moving
+Michigan & Ohio Valley Lines To be Very Honest, Your Train Layout is the Best, I Really Love it. I Like How you Ran the Polar Express Along side a Diesel Train. I also Like the Polar Express Model Itself too. I Really Hope in the Future That you Will make More of These Videos. I can see that you Put alot of Effort into Making this Train Layout, Keep up the Good Work & Stay Encouraged.!!😉😉
HerbieOFP Gaming Many thanks. Layout is temporarily gone...needed new carpet. Got some good plans for what I want to do next time. I will do more videos when I can.
@Keith Woodworth You are welcome. I'm having fun.
@snowmantrains Thank you! I had some accessories that I just didn't really have a spot for, but I had purchased them so cheap I couldn't pass up the deal. Since I redid the track plan, I was able to make room for them. There are still many improvements to come for my carpet layout so stay tuned ; )
It is pretty easy to do. I have a how-to on it on O-Gauge Hobbyist site. UA-cam wont let me post a link, but I updated this video's description with the web link. You have to copy and paste it in your browser.
@Debzuk76 Thanks! I'm glad you both enjoyed it. Makes it worth the effort. Merry Christmas.
5:04 that's the whistle tye HO scale Polar Express has
@Rick Moredock That is the Lionel Polar Railroad GP7 pulling some Polar Railroad freight plus some freight that I custom painted. I painted the operating log car and operating barrel car. I put PE Cocoa on the barrels. The searchlight car was also added.
Michigan @ oh...., Real cool video.
@MINTARKA101 Thank you very much! I try to make my videos as enjoyable as possible.
Do you think it would be at all possible to do a video on how you managed to model the rear end of the observation car
This is amazing! I use to watch this when I was younger and I thought it was so cool! I was wondering how you got the snow effect on the passenger cars.
Okay thanks Keith! I'm a little afraid of trying to make them look like they've been in the snow but I think I'll end up doing it??? ;)
I have been inspired
How did you cold weather your pass cars?
I love the train it's really cool
I am looking at this polar express train and was wondering do I see seats and some people sitting on the seats in the compartments?
Please answer me back:
I have the polar express and I am thinking of getting the all aboard passenger car and the train sounds tender I just have three questions:
One: Can the announcement from the passenger car be operated without a legacy system?
Two: Can crew talk be activated through the whistle or does it have to be a controller system?
And three where did you get the PE diesel?
Thank you for your time.
So cool, wish I had one
That’s awesome 😊
i have the polar express set with train sounds tender would it look weird if the loco that came with the set was pulling those coaches
I model in HO-scale and love commuter lines, like the Long Island Railroad, and Metro-North.with dual mode locomotives.
@thomasandfriends47 Both are as they come straight from Lionel. The tanker was one of the first two freight cars that Lionel put out in the Polar RailRoad name. The diesel was an uncatalogued item that Lionel offered in the 2010 Year end flyer.
Is there a link to get this set?
Looking good, as usual.
which train has the disapearin hobo?
It probably wouldn't look right. These heavyweight passenger cars are large...19". Lionel suggests O-54 curves. I don't have the starter set to compare them with.
Where would I find a Lionel 1225 like that?
My set is the Scale items, not the ready-to-run set. My all aboard sounds come from the locomotive's tender. The diesel is a Lionel Polar Railroad GP7 from 2010.
I wonder if i can still buy this when i grow up?i mean if it's still available
@Daniel Tabone That's fine. I saw your video and I am not at all worried about your opinion.
@Tryanpanther86 Many thanks...glad you like them.
He's just sad he doesn't have a layout.. I use to be jealous like him :P! Great vid!
Thank you!
I've seen these engines before. Yours has realistic sounds and a really cool whistle. I've also seen the same engine but no sounds? Is yours a special edition or an upgrade?
Is the diesel and the tanker real?
Where can I find this train? I noticed Lionel sells a few different polar express trains. I'm looking for this one. Thanks!
I agree. Thank you.
Nice blue birney tram u got there
y did they put detailed axles on all the other polar express sets except for the g gauge
the weathering isn't here, mind if you can make a video about it?
IT IS BEAUTIFUL
;A; I love your setup
Since when was there a diesel train polar express??
Great Stuff Man!
How fast it go
Many Thanks.
@farstarfilms Lionel Legacy Pere Marquette 1225 with Polar Express tender. I don't know where you'd find one now. Maybe check eBay frequently.
No, it says Polar Railroad. It was an uncataloged item for 2010 by Lionel.
Beautiful. I wish I had the scale one. Only have the original Lionel polar express in semi-Scale. I have the upgraded sound tender, but that just doesn't do it. I do however run my 736 Berkshire reproduction with command control pulling it to get the realistic whistle and ect
I love this video. I am constantly writing down the consists and asking myself "How do I do this and do I have space?" I am curious as to the caboose on the GP-7 Freight. Is this a custom? What was it originally? I have never seen one like it!
Mark Meade Thanks! The caboose is Lionel item 6-27656, an I-12 caboose
I love the steam locomotive
