Thank you for choosing Joe as your first in this series. Joe is one of my photographic heroes. He is a truly gentle and intellectual photographer whose work stands among the best to be found. I envy the time you have been able to spend with him. He is one of the reasons I subscribed to "On Landscape" and also worked up the nerve to write my first article for them on my Niagara imagery. Telling stories is what photography is truly about. The realization that there is also a story behind the photographer and their body of work is not often told or shared. Been truely amazed by Joe and his photos since he came to give a lecture when i was at Arts school back in 2002. One of my all time favourite photographers. A great story by Joe. His stories are as inspiring as they was over 20 years ago.
A big hug to Meg. Someone, somewhere said that "dogs aren't your whole life, but they make your life whole". So very true. Cameras come and cameras go, but amazing creatures like Meg...do not. Dogs are very special. I previously had 8 sled dogs i used to travel around interior alaska with. They were my only companions for months sometimes. I have one remaining, many years retired, that is over 17 now. He had relatively minor knee surgery 4 weeks ago and is now back up to walking 3 miles a day. Your ability to articulate composition is very inspirational. Thank you.

Hi Simon just catching up on your channel this was a fabulous episode, it was great to hear yourself and Joe talk so frankly about issues which plague us all time to time. I know I keep switching back to analogue and digital workflow, as the darkroom is such and alluring place to immerse and create , film is a very tactile medium. Hi Simon, so sorry Meg has been so unwell. Having lost our own little rescued Yorkie cross 3 weeks before Christmas, seeing our pets unwell & they don't have the ability to tell us what is wrong is heartbreaking in itself. Joe Cornish is such a warm unassuming gentlemen, he is someone we all aspire to as a photographer. I am still trying to find an image with a story worth writing about, but as in photography I will keep trying.
Loved reading Joe’s articles in photo magazines in the days before the Internet when I was much younger. The moors is a favourite holiday location and I always make the trip to his gallery, the family enjoy it too and all rounded off with a visit to the gallery cafe. The staff are so friendly there and had dairy free options too! Thanks Simon for publishing this and thanks to Joe for being so open and airing his story.

It seems we've been replacing our kids with dogs...as they left home I mean, rather than making it sound like they're buried under the patio...which would be tricky, as we don't have a patio...I'd like to go back to my cell now...

I have a Canon Pro-1000 and Joe has the Pro-4000.

I really enjoyed and appreciated Joe's story - the aspen image does the "floating" thing for me too. Meg's tail isn't down, even if the bounce in her bungee is reduced for now - she'll be back to her irrepressible self before we know it! :-)
