Tanner! So I did end up picking up a 15 STI Limited!! Question about the cooling mod, Is this something recommended in general or because of Unequal length headers? Or is it just a good upgrade regardless of ULH or ELH and has nothing to do with that.
The header don't have anything to do with it. The header is an EGT issue, the cyl 4 cooling mod addresses coolant issues. Wouldent say it's 100% but never hurts. And congrats on the car!!!

UEL headers generate more heat which transfers into the block, the longer unequal length cause the heat to take longer to travel through the pipe so it gets hotter increasing the chances of knock

Hey Tanner can you install the cooling mod without bleeding the coolant out? Can you just pinch off the two ends of the coolant line with something then install the T fitting?
When you jack up the front end your putting the radiator higher than the upper coolant res, I've seen a few people use that method but hit or miss from my experience
For some reason I couldn’t get my 06 wrx to bleed after a water pump timing belt job till I jacked it up and finally started going through heat cycles with the fans
Love the video man did you have any jack stands under the car or just relying on that little baby jack to not come down on you make sure you have jack stands next time.
I had two Jack stands and the jack under the car, one in the front and back. Last thing I would want is a 4200 lb car coming down on me 😅 appreciate you looking our though!
I wouldn't say overall cooling changed but I did see a reduction in cyl roughness on cyl 4. As to why subaru has not implemented this I couldn't tell ya 😖

Now i know my 15’ is a fa and doesn’t utilize an ej platform is there a way to make it work on my engine? @@Smeedia FA engines don’t need an AOS or catch can? How does the PCV system work differently in a way that it doesn’t need it? I thought every turbocharged car would benefit from a catch can.
Unfortunately I live in California so buying elh to help keep cylinders 2 & 4 cooler isn't gonna happen (if someone knows where to get carb compliant headers let me know or a way to get any headers in this state). This will help as well, though, so I'll definitely be grabbing one of these.
Would this be necessary or even worth it for someone in Alaska where temps rarely reach 80° in the summer, and summer is short? Basically only drive the Subie when I can't ride my motorcycle, and then drive it all winter where temps are generally 20°F to -40°F.
Yes I would still suggest it, internal engine temps and ambient temps are correlated but the engine will always get to operating temperature and the increased coolant flow will still benefit the engine
Smeedia thanks for the info! I'll look into ordering one for my series white! Coming from a WRX so I'm super excited, want to do this and the AOS for longevity.
Where exactly is that bolt that needs to be removed for the fitting of the coolant mod? I’m having difficulty finding it from these videos. Left side of engine block? Above left axle?
Smeedia alright does I just saw a picture of it. But since the cylinder faces outwards, driver side, is the bolt to be removed on the same flat side as cylinder 2 and 4? Or is it underneath the block? Or on top of the block? I don’t want to pay $150 to this mechanic which is why I’m asking
u actually used the 1 minute gasket maker lol. but yea how did you screw in the mod? with your hand? also, when u cutt the hose, more coolant came out? cant we just drain from the petcock under the radiator? to take out all the coolant? or gotta take it out from the oil cooler?
You can drain it from the radiator but I did not want to refill the entire cooling system lol. And I would say about 8 oz. Of coolant came out after cutting the hose 😅
Can I use these "good stuff" sealant on the new oil pan? Planing on doing them both so I wont need to buy 2 different sealants if it works for both places, because I saw you used a different sealant on the killer b oil pan
Need some help. Is the bottom hose coming from the heater core normally go to the outer most hose going to the engine right side (drivers side). Hope im making sense. Thanks

So I know having UEL compromised the reliability on the car and can cause detonation on these engines. With the FA20 WRX coming with EL, if I decided to get aftermarket UEL, is there anything from a cooling POV that can be done to reduce the chance of detonation and make it as reliable as it can be since the Cylinder 4 Cooling mod is not available for the FA20 because it is not needed for stock set up's?
i tried to click on the link for the cooling mod and the part is discontinued. Is there somewhere else to get it or is there a more up to date part. I just bought my first STi. a 2017
most video shows people use the lower radiator hose to drain coolant, i kinda like the oil cooler one as it doesnt make a huge mess and i dont have to mess with plastic radiator
@@Smeedia very true lol and also when i installed the getaDomtune cooling mod the way the aluminum feel when you torque down the nut is kinda very tight and couldnt torque it the way i torque metals. its almost feels like you are tightening up two sets of aluminum bolt and nut. it only torques about 1-2 centimeter lol
will this cause issues with powertrain warranty? i dont see how they could possibly claim it contributed to a failure also is this risky to do without a thermostat?
Smeedia so I did what you did I drained the coolant from the line under the car by the oil filter like you did. Then when I cut the hose to put in the “extra line” some some more came out. I didn’t get “subaru coolant” or the “oem” stuff I got other shit that was name brand 50/50. Should I be ok to put it into the top cap like you did? @@jacecooley1299 there may have been residual coolant in the heater core line. And your fine to use the 50/50. The substi blocks are a little picky. I'm not sure the exact amount I pulled out. But I know after burping the car I ended up putting in about 2 gallons of coolant
Smeedia Finished for the most part. At 9:45 you said to pinch the line off and rev the engine a few times. 1: Were you able to do that? 2: Were you referring to the Dom hose when pinching? Thanks again!!!
I wanna get this for my 15 Sti terribly bad but I think it would void my warranty :/ it’s another FIFTY THOUSAND miles til I can do any mods within the warranty

@@devonmacrae2020 honestly it all comes down to what you want as an end goal for the car. The wrx will be better for city driving as all the torque is down low. I would say that drive both and see what one you prefer.

@@Smeedia BNIB short block, 1.4k miles as of now. Stage 3ish (Cobb flex fuel kit, IAG AOS, DP+catback, ECBS, GS TMIC.....) motul 10W40 every 3k.
If it were me, I would install one, its cheep insurance that helps coolant flow through the head
Hi, excellent video! What is the size of the hose and the fitting on it?
5/8th 🙏
Would you say overall cooling of the engine has improved with this mod and if yes, why hasn't Subaru implemented this simple mod eons ago? thx
I wouldn't say overall cooling changed but I did see a reduction in cyl roughness on cyl 4. As to why subaru has not implemented this I couldn't tell ya 😖
Front mount intercooler you are went for power so wonder why not go all the way and get equal header and not bother with cooling mod. I’m guessing you wanna keep rumble
I ended up going with Killer B ELH, when I first went to the dyno it was not in my budget, second time around (later videos) it swapped to ELH
@@Smeedia got you. Good videos
Hey man, just bought my first subaru. Really appreciate your knowledge and thoroughness on the aos/occ. picked up the iag setup you went over. Now i know my 15’ is a fa and doesn’t utilize an ej platform is there a way to make it work on my engine? Trying to square away with all the preventative stuff while i have the coolant out of it for the most part, thanks in advance!
So lucky for you, the FAs do not have thr same issue and do not need this mod 🥳
@@Smeedia hey man does installing this required a tune?
No🤝
@@Smeedia FA engines don’t need an AOS or catch can? How does the PCV system work differently in a way that it doesn’t need it? I thought every turbocharged car would benefit from a catch can.
Where is the 4th cylinder located when standing in front of the car?
Back right
Did this make a difference in cooling if so how much of a difference
No difference in general cooling however there are temperature differences in cylinder 4. Dom has some charts about the cooling delta on their website
Great video! I just got the torque solution cylinder 4 mod put on my car and will be posting a video also!
Yesssssss
Unfortunately I live in California so buying elh to help keep cylinders 2 & 4 cooler isn't gonna happen (if someone knows where to get carb compliant headers let me know or a way to get any headers in this state). This will help as well, though, so I'll definitely be grabbing one of these.
I'll look around for a carb set and see what I can find 🤔
@@SmeediaThanks man. Much appreciated. ✌🏻
If your sitting in the driver's seat its on the back of the left side head
Smeedia you’re awesome
Smeedia alright does I just saw a picture of it. But since the cylinder faces outwards, driver side, is the bolt to be removed on the same flat side as cylinder 2 and 4? Or is it underneath the block? Or on top of the block?
I don’t want to pay $150 to this mechanic which is why I’m asking
The plug is on the back side of cyl 4 facing the rear of the car right behind the steering rack and the secondary air pump location
Have you had this mod on all your STis? Just tryna see if it’s absolutely necessary or if I take good care of my car I can get away without it.
Not on all of them, some I've used it on and others I haven't. Tbh haven't seen any differences between values in them
@@Smeedia cool brotha cool 😎
Does that gasket maker need anytime frame to cure? I read something that you have to wait 24hrs before filling it with coolant and burping it?
Honestly just give it like an hour and it'll be fine 🙏
Instead of draining the coolant can you just pinch the hose both side when installing the metal T fitting?
No, the coolant will come out of the back of the block as well 😖
u actually used the 1 minute gasket maker lol. but yea how did you screw in the mod? with your hand? also, when u cutt the hose, more coolant came out? cant we just drain from the petcock under the radiator? to take out all the coolant? or gotta take it out from the oil cooler?
You can drain it from the radiator but I did not want to refill the entire cooling system lol. And I would say about 8 oz. Of coolant came out after cutting the hose 😅
Smeedia you threaded the cooling mod by hand? since you used the 1minute permatex?
Just to get it started, used a small crescent wrench to tighten it down
Can I use these "good stuff" sealant on the new oil pan? Planing on doing them both so I wont need to buy 2 different sealants if it works for both places, because I saw you used a different sealant on the killer b oil pan
I would use the RTV Black for the pan, theyre rated for 2 different temps and you wpuldent want the pan to leak after reinstalling it 😅
You should also get
Blow off
Turbo timer
And the most expensive catch can, lol (aos)
Also dont use a genuine mac valve as an ebcs
Would this need any sort of tune? And/or will the ecu have to learn any new values such as fkl ? Apologies if that doesn’t really make sense
Nope, no tuje needed and thr ECU does not need to re learn
Need some help. Is the bottom hose coming from the heater core normally go to the outer most hose going to the engine right side (drivers side). Hope im making sense. Thanks
Not quite sure what your asking lol your going to want to tap into the inner most hise
Where should ej255 owners drain from as there isn't that same location that you used?
just did mine a little bit ago...yea i hate coolant. did a oil change also so i just hate car fluids today. but seems all good with no leaks and then went out and finished my etune
Score! Yeah I got COVERED in coolant when I did it
So I know having UEL compromised the reliability on the car and can cause detonation on these engines.
Unfortunately no, you would be creating and inefficient system for the exhaust. 10/10 suggest staying with ELH 🙏
@@Smeedia I’m going to have to look into the Killer B ELH and a deeper sounding exhaust to get that rumble then 😈
I don’t have the accesport yet not too much $$ what should u recommend.?? Thanks for the videos
What are you looking to do? This mod does not require an AP
We’ll I don’t know exactly the temp just the gauge in the panel, just don’t want too do something wrong if u understand what I’m saying
Gotcha, just keep an eye on the stock gauge, I just prefer to see the values in actual numbers but the gauge will also work just fine to burp it
Thank u brother a million, any questions u mind me asking u in the near future
Whenever you have them shoot them over 🙏
i tried to click on the link for the cooling mod and the part is discontinued. Is there somewhere else to get it or is there a more up to date part. I just bought my first STi. a 2017
@smeedia Is this as important for an N/A EJ25 as it is for a turbo?
How did this mod impact your heating system? I had to put a restriction pill so my heat works while moving.
most video shows people use the lower radiator hose to drain coolant, i kinda like the oil cooler one as it doesnt make a huge mess and i dont have to mess with plastic radiator
Makes for a little bit of a cleaner install so your not covered in coolant 🙏
@@Smeedia very true lol and also when i installed the getaDomtune cooling mod the way the aluminum feel when you torque down the nut is kinda very tight and couldnt torque it the way i torque metals. its almost feels like you are tightening up two sets of aluminum bolt and nut. it only torques about 1-2 centimeter lol
As long as it doesn't leak, I wouldent stress it too much 🙏
@@Smeedia yea thats true, thanks bro 👍
Is the plastic T fitting really something to be concerned about compared to the stainless?
Over time the plastic can start to break down but should be fine using the plastic one. I wanted the metal for a little extra security
Do I need this mod if I have equal length headers
there's 1 of the Air Pump ports right next to the Cooling mod port.
Yup! I just did the air pump delete today got both of em 🔥
What’s the tire/wheel setup you got going on? Looking a little saucy bro!
🔥😤🔥
Thank you! These are qork wmotion D9R 18x9.5 +38 on 235/40/18s
Do the FA’s also need a cylinder 4 cooling mod?
No sir
Wouldn't it be better just to run equal length headers to avoid this issue?
Equal length header deals with uneven and high EQTs and makes no difference on thr cooling system. This addresses the cooling system.
Would you say that this mod would be even more beneficial. When used with an upgraded radiator like koyo?
Is it ok if I can’t see my exact coolant temp? Stock 2018 STI with no access port but wanting to do this mod
Yes your still good, I just find it washer to read temp off the AP 🙏
Hey i have a 13 wrx is black metal hose same one on your as mine ???
Should be 🙌
will this cause issues with powertrain warranty? i dont see how they could possibly claim it contributed to a failure
also is this risky to do without a thermostat?
How much coolant do you put back into the car??
About 2 gallons
Smeedia so I did what you did I drained the coolant from the line under the car by the oil filter like you did. Then when I cut the hose to put in the “extra line” some some more came out. I didn’t get “subaru coolant” or the “oem” stuff I got other shit that was name brand 50/50. Should I be ok to put it into the top cap like you did? And I should put 2 gallons I don’t think 2 gallons even came out of the car
@@jacecooley1299 there may have been residual coolant in the heater core line. And your fine to use the 50/50. The substi blocks are a little picky. I'm not sure the exact amount I pulled out. But I know after burping the car I ended up putting in about 2 gallons of coolant
What are your thoughts of putting it a stock 2013 wrx with 66k on it? Dope channel!
Definitely will benefit the car 🙏🙌
@@Smeedia Thanks for your input!
Dumb question: Was pulling off the bumper and under tray necessary? I hope not 🤞🏽
Thanks in advance.
For me yes because I have my splitter that goes under the car. 😅 for a normal car you just have to remove the under tray
Smeedia Finished for the most part. At 9:45 you said to pinch the line off and rev the engine a few times. 1: Were you able to do that? 2: Were you referring to the Dom hose when pinching?
Thanks again!!!
One last question on top of the previous 2.
Did you actually wait the 24 hrs prior to burping?
@@BluPrynt78 no..... lol I waited like 2 hours 😅
This video is very much needed! Thank you!
Anytime, thank you for the support!
I wanna get this for my 15 Sti terribly bad but I think it would void my warranty :/ it’s another FIFTY THOUSAND miles til I can do any mods within the warranty
It would void the warranty, my suggestion would be to just wait until your out if you don't feel comfortable voiding it
Smeedia I’m torn because it would help my engine so much. As well as a catch can or aos. Until then. I’m gonna drive very conservatively, for the most part. My shifting habits are 2800-3000. Only build boost above 3000 when I do a spirited pull (usually up to the speed limit). The warranty is up at 100k. Ik I’m the 3rd owner in 50k miles. Was also gonna ask you what your long term affects have been since you’ve done this mod. What is your AP telling you? I’m curious of what the long term affects are too
I saw decreased feedback knock but minimally, I would see the same value but not as often. Could be a placebo or could be actuality 😅
I did this month and lost air conditioning in the summer
Brother I hope you're having a great weekend so far . I also got a quick question..do they make these for FA20 motors? All I see is for older wrxs. Mine is a 2019 .
No need for one for the FA WRXs, they have a better cooling system than the EJ motors so no need 😁😁
@@Smeedia awesome! Dam bro thanks for the fast response 👌 keep doing what you're doing. There's alot of potential in you and the channel 😎
@@Frankyjs24 I'm here for the community 🙌 appreciate the feedback and lots more videos on the way 🔥
I love watching your videos they are very helpful and easy to follow! I just have a few questions for you because I am looking to get a 2015 wrx
What questions do you got 😁
Smeedia well I’m looking into buying a 2015 WRX but my dream car is the STI. I can afford the STI but won’t be able to put much mods or I can get the WRX and put many more mods! Making power. I keep on hearing things from everyone that the Sti is better but other people think the wrx is better Ita just a really hard decision
Smeedia as well what rims are those!?
@@devonmacrae2020 honestly it all comes down to what you want as an end goal for the car. The wrx will be better for city driving as all the torque is down low. I would say that drive both and see what one you prefer.
Smeedia thank you for advice it’s just a really hard decision lol
Just ordered my 2021 STI and would assume that the cylinder 4 cooling mod along with the AOS would void warranty. Anyone have any past experience with warranty and doing these mods?
They won't 100% void warranty but they will open the possibility for details of claims unfortunately
@@Smeedia man, you really are good about responding to questions lol. Love your videos man.
Yeah I plan on keeping my subie for a long time and hear these mods are great for longevity. Just torn on the whole "will it void my warranty" bit.
Totally feel it, I'd say hold off for a few months to get acquainted with the car then go from there. And I try try get back to as many comments as I can 🙏😁
What did you end up using to tighten the fitting to block? The crescent wrench or big ass 1in wrench??
Just the Cresent wrench 🙏
and what gauges do you have They are right behind the steering wheel
Those are the AEM boost and AFR gauges 😁
Am new to the subaru scene and definitely fona get this mod on my 2015 sti
Did you delete the bottom engine cover permanently?
Yes I did 🙏
Bro parts stores here don't take coolant back but I'm guessing that dealers have a recycling option. What did you do with the old coolant?
Dropped it off at Subaru, have a buddy who works there that recycled it for me 😁
Smeedia Awesome!!!
How important is the coolant conditioner??
Personally never have used it
