Well this is the first video on here that I feel the need to criticise. I found the whole video very boring, self indulgent and with a lot of smoke being blown up certain passageways. I have been a petrol head, rally car builder, restorer and professional Tech most of my life so to make me almost switch off takes some doing. But I did stick it out. The 'arty crafty' camera work was irrelevant and the deliberate use of out of focus or out of frame shots is exceedingly pretentious. I mean why? But the overall thing nagging at me even half way through was what does Mr Lord provide to the process? He sells very expensive ideas to wealthy Americans and has Retropower build the cars. Listening to him I heard all the sales cliches, hooks, phrases and closures that slick salesmen use. Magic. To be fair I was getting the same vibe from Cal but then he does actually build the cars he sells. I am pretty sure those same wealthy people will, when they get wind of who is actually doing the work, bypass Mr Lord / Redux and employ Retropower direct and I am sure Retropower will be more than happy to sell to them. Wealthy people and competitive businesses have no loyalty and neither should they. I am afraid I have little sympathy for Mr Lord who, as he said, has not invested in people and equipment the way Retropower has. In other words he has nothing unique to offer as his business model is based on fresh air and illusions that someone else delivers. I am sure he is a very sharp operator but more is needed to survive. And no I never tried Part Two.
I disagree, yes, Mr Lord is extremely pretentious and dream salesmen but the car is good and it brings Retropower money. This matters to me, I too build cars and funding (as you surely know) is the most critical part. In order to be creative you need to have peace. Money gives you piece and Retropower have that because they build this pretentious bloke's "American dream". The car seems more than good too
100% agree! Im also prof race/rally car builder and I agree with all of the points you made. I had to watch part 1 at 1.5 speed to not fall asleep and decided to give part 2 a wide berth, life is too short!

As for funding well I doubt Retropower are short of a few Shekels and at this level large deposits are always taken anyway. There is no reason why a US buyer couldn't contact Retropower direct and get exactly the car they desire without Mr Lord taking a slice of cash.

Redux is branding, its almost the complete opposite to Singer. It essentially trades on the idea of Singer's Imagined concept but without the direct engineering or evolutionary creativity

Its clear that Lord had the idea for a business before building a car. Which is arse about face. And points to the classic "nothing of value" Having had a few chats with Lord in the (incredibly long) gestation period, he was playing heavily on him building the car himself in his workshop. To find out he's just subbed out the work sums him up. Hes also been hinting that "Redux" can supply a billet engine, but it's actually made my a Dutch (iirc) company making them. So another example of him taking credit for others ideas and work. And its clear from our chats, that hes always right and you're always wrong. 🙄 So imagine what he'd be like when you spend nearly £400k and get a car thats far from perfect and want some rework warranty rectification! Anyone who knows E30 M3s well, will wonder about half these "mods" anyway. 18s are too big for the car. Smaller throttle bodies are a weird choice. The interior is frankly awful. The suspension isn't Grp A/DTM stuff it's just standard stuff lowered (with oversize wheels) which screws up the angles and handling. These will never handle anywhere near as well as the price demands! Sooner this whole endevaour dies a death the better frankly.

I love Retropower and tune in every week with baited breath. But I hate this video. It’s Mr “redux” he comes across with a massive attitude problem! Looks like he wants to kill you if you say the wrong thing. He’s just a consultant firm, and all the great work is done by you guys. Cal seemed to be carrying the whole video, this guy is not really a people person.
If, as I supect, the Retropower order book is full to bulging with your own customers, then for your own sake carry on with those and bin this joker and his terrible vanity business off. I think the E36 M3 side mirror you are referring to was actually seen on the E30 M3 chassis first. They were on the late model E30 M3 DTM cars then it was adopted by the E36 M3 street car. One of the best mirrors ever..
Its a nice car, but I’d just import one and get it restored by Cal and the team, keep its BMW pedigree and then drive it every day... for a lot less layout.. I think that we’ll see lots of other people with the same idea too and Retropower extending their premises, again.
Just one thing Cal said, it's not "always" better to have power to weight in a light car vs the same power to weight in a heavy car. If you are trying to achieve top speed then weight is almost irrelevant. All the fatest cars in the world have a high power output as well as a relatively high curb weight. In contrast high power to weight ratio "light cars" tend to not have a very high top speed at all. Of course on most race tracks it's a different story but just wanted to make the point.
I've got an E46 M3 Recently the smg went wrong So I asked the dealer if he knew anyone to buy it Some loon then rang me up and offered me a grand for it Turned some heads when I went in and paid for it to be repaired up front They were so jealous they gave me the car back with a broken bumper a dent in the quarter and bolts missing from the exhaust Thanks Sytner at Gallows Corner

Until you’ve driven a light car you can’t appreciate how good they feel..i used to have an Exige S2 that had 240bhp & it handled way nicer than the 911 992 Carrera S i have now, that has 450bhp purely because of the weight…

I am amazed and surprised by all the negative comments about how Simon and Redux are pointless and customers should just buy the same thing straight from Retropower. The key thing is how much time, work and energy is involved in the design, layout, re-engineering and parts selection processes. Redux, by designing a complete package, is able to make a highly modified car available to those customers that do not want to go through all that. Could Retropower have done the same car without being involved with Redux? - Sure But the most important part of the whole thing is to sell it to a customer. In this case Retropower will surely get their fair margin of the selling price, but they do not need to worry about finding customers or do any marketing etc. It's easy to bash someone, but it would be nice to step back for a second and look at the bigger picture, not just "I could have done this myself, why would he put a badge and his name on it".
last point first: I don't see anyone suggesting they could do this themselves. Quite the contrary. Those of us finding it all a bit pretentious are just confused why RP, who can do it all themselves ever got involved with Redux who cannot do it all themselves (unless it was to gain experience for themselves). You suggest this Mr lord did all the design and layout work. Possibly so but who cut metal, laid CF, did the CAD work and built the cars? Not Redux. And nothing he did could not be done by RF. As for selling I suspect RP are pretty adept at selling very expensive bespoke cars to well healed clients.

I'm sure Retropower will do a follow-up or make some kind of a statement to respond to these confused commenters and explain why they partered with Redux. Just giving my hypothesis: It does not seem non-sensical or a bad deal or a stupid move, if as said, one would look at a bigger picture. The way a "classic" Retropower project works is this: - client gets in touch - a plan is discussed - a plan is discussed in detail for many moons - the project physically starts - many discussions with client - lots of engineering, bespoke, one-off jobs - many discussions with client ...... So on and so on. It can take a year or more of back-and-forth with the customer and design and manufacturing to get the project done. With Redux, they do the time-consuming design-engineering process once and all the next cars in the series will be immensely easier to produce. This will leave RP with a much higher profit margin (presumably) and should provide them with a stable workflow and revenue for a good period of time.
Retropower is their business, not yours, you make no contribution to the company, whatever, so there's no reason for them to take your arrogant demand seriously. You use the word "we", you do not speak for anyone here so perhaps edit the wording of your comment to "I".

What kind of steering rack do you use to have 2.7 turns from lock to lock? I reckon stock ones are closer to 5 turns than 4. I use an E46 one which is in the 4 if not high 3, but I would be interested to know which rack give 2.7 turns, may be more for my E46 than my E30 which is fine as it is now....
It's unfortunate that E30 M3 have already been priced out of the hands of your average enthusiast and there's a whole industry evolving around building 'replicas'. I'm glad I had mine when they could still be driven as intended and weren't just a rich boys plaything. Mind you, with so much of the original cars being binned I can't see the benefit of using an original M3 over a 316.

The car looks incredible, like a finished piece rather than a stock E30 with a load of bits hacked on to make it more suitable for motorsport as the stock ones do. Don't get the hate for the Redux guy either, he had a vision of a product, managed to market/sell it then went to people who know what they're doing to build it. Seems like a fairly standard business idea progression to me.

The E30 M3 has a very different body. It looks standard, but the roof is lower, which causes LOTS of differences in panels.

The way a "classic" Retropower project works is this:
- client gets in touch
- a plan is discussed
- a plan is discussed in detail for many moons
- the project physically starts
- many discussions with client
- lots of engineering, bespoke, one-off jobs
- many discussions with client
...... So on and so on. It can take a year or more of back-and-forth with the customer and design and manufacturing to get the project done.
With Redux, they do the time-consuming design-engineering process once and all the next cars in the series will be immensely easier to produce.
This will leave RP with a much higher profit margin (presumably) and should provide them with a stable workflow and revenue for a good period of time.

You have the audio channels the wrong way around - depending on where the camera is sited - may have been better to merge the channels.
I like it very much, the only thing I am having a hard time with is the trunk's button, it looks so out of place with that blue LED.

Retropower is their business, not yours, you make no contribution to the company, whatever, so there's no reason for them to take your arrogant demand seriously. You use the word "we", you do not speak for anyone here so perhaps edit the wording of your comment to "I".

Our E21 is the opposite; the front wheels sit noticeably towards the front of the wheel arches. Must be a 3 series thing 😄

What kind of steering rack do you use to have 2.7 turns from lock to lock? I reckon stock ones are closer to 5 turns than 4. I use an E46 one which is in the 4 if not high 3, but I would be interested to know which rack give 2.7 turns, may be more for my E46 than my E30 which is fine as it is now....
The 2.7 L2L rack is the E36 Z3 rack. BMW Part no. 32 13 1 095 577

It's unfortunate that E30 M3 have already been priced out of the hands of your average enthusiast and there's a whole industry evolving around building 'replicas'. I'm glad I had mine when they could still be driven as intended and weren't just a rich boys plaything. Mind you, with so much of the original cars being binned I can't see the benefit of using an original M3 over a 316.
Even a regular 6 cyl e30 are overpriced
@@WickedTRX Agreed. This has a ridiculous £333000 price tag attached plus a £40k+ donor car. The best thing is at least they dropped those awful design cues that were on the old website, like the E46M3 side vents etc.

The car looks incredible, like a finished piece rather than a stock E30 with a load of bits hacked on to make it more suitable for motorsport as the stock ones do.
Don't get the hate for the Redux guy either, he had a vision of a product, managed to market/sell it then went to people who know what they're doing to build it. Seems like a fairly standard business idea progression to me.
