I believe in Kosovo Canadian CF-18s totaled more than 600 sorties dropping almost that many bombs. The Hornet has really served well in the roles Canada has asked of it. Didn't mind the night flight at all!
One of the things I was amazed by in desert shield/ storm was as busy the airspace was we didn't have issues with aircraft running into each other. I was part of the ground forces. My unit was responsible for 70km of the Saudi border. Part of what we did was to retrieve air crew that got shot down within a range of the border we were watching.
VERY enlightening to see what was going on in the cockpits of those fighters during Desert Storm. Your efforts are *much* appreciated, GS. I hope you had as much fun making this as we did watching it!
Exciting memories - was there, flying with an HSL Detachment (Seahawk helicopters) from an unnamed frigate - ALL my flight time was at night. AND back then - I as the Sensor Operator/Door Gunner was the only one with NVGs - pilots didn't have them yet - but we DID have a brand-new, zip-tied to the aircraft FLIR. Sadly, we didn't get Hellfire missiles for another few years.
I have learned so much about how things work based off of these vids, and I know they're not 1:1 accurate, but it's so fascinating to watch and listen. Thank you for sharing these
Ah, nothing better than a fresh GS vid. Thank you for your content. I really like how you explain everything. I am a young aviator, and love this type of content.
The Triple A is CRAZY TO SEE at NIGHT, I love watching all the tracer fire open up, it's just nutty when everyone and their grandmother has AAA firing into the dark Love your night missions! Also, some rare sparrow action was cool to see! Props for getting 2 vids in one day! Day 45 / Video 23 of asking for some MIG 31 FOXHOUND high speed high altitude action!
I've been loving the varied missions recently. I am a huge fan of SEAD, CAS, and the like so having high quality content related to those roles is so nice. The mixture of A/A and A/G is also a great thing to have as it offers a little something for everyone.
Love seeing the burners lit at night! Used to stay w/my grandpa in India in spring and used to watch F-111’s among several others blast outa there at night! Incredible!
There's a reason the Hornet's designation is F/A. It was the first purpose built, truly multi role tactical fighter for the US. Delivering hate and discontent in air, on land, and at sea.
2 vids in one day champ, I love that . How good is the Hornet? It loves doing all jobs for a decent price. Great vid as always dude. Love the channel..........
07:00 When a whole bunch of AAA gunners are sending lots and lots of angry bees😡🐝 dangerously close to your aircraft even with your afterburner _off_ …lighting up the *“HEY GUYS, I’M OVER HERE!!👋🏻😁”* blow torch in the dead of night does not seem like a such good idea🫣 in that particular tactical environment. 🤔😲🤔 But maybe that’s just me and my crazy talk... 😅 Love the nighttime missions by the way! 👍🏻
GS, love the vids keep it up man. Would you be willing to do a deep dive into some of the systems, how targeting stuff works etc? Mostly for grounds strikes, that seems the most complicated
Jack of all trades... I guess it's only real drawback is that it is not as fast as otherJet's... But it does ground strikes particularly, well. AND it can defend itself against airborne threats. It truly is a Jack of all trades.
Instead if hornet need to call it f18 the klasdale, work horse of the military!! Love the show night time mission rock. Triple A fire was freaking stunning!
I'm guessing this might have been inspired by the attack in Desert Storm on the Iraqi H3 airbase? Where USN Hornets on an attack run had a pair of Mig-21s move in to attack. And the Hornets simply switched to A2A mode, took them both out, then switched back and bombed the airfield? But yes, good showing here - luckily that Mig-29 didn't properly merge with you though when you were carrying that much ordinance!
@GrowlingSidewinder great video as always - surely in reality you'd never keep the burner in for as long? Lit up like a torch over hostile ground - needs must during the merge but beyond that I'm sure it would be mostly off.
What do you recommend using for rudder controls if you're using an x56 hotas no pedals? I could possibly swing my racing pedals over but I'd love input
Any way you can fly the Blackbird with a team of F-35s and F-22s in a special recon mission full of S400 sites and Su-57s, Su-35s and Mig-31s with hypersonic missiles? Would think thats awesome!
How did you make the whole screen into NVG as opposed to looking through a goggle? Sorry, not sure how to word the question. Thanks again for the great content GS

Day 72 asking for F-22 vs 10 MiG 21
night combat is so cool and rare to see in DCS, i just love it
Thank you Sisyphus
That Sparrow was in fact SUPER dedicated. 😂
2 GS videos in one day is a great day :D !!!

Those turbo lasers trying to hit that f18 was wild.

How did that go? Any interesting stories or whatnot?
Depends on what you consider interesting. It was the best of times it was the worst of times.
Growling when writing a book for his children - "The little Sparrow that could"
No son. Not that kind of sparrow.
This sparrow doesn't have to flap it's wings
I’ve been working on F/A-18C/Ds for over 4 years now in the marines. And anytime I see you post and F-18 video I click so fast.
Fear the Hornet’s sting.
"In the front, in the back: Killa Bees On Attack!"

Thank you for watching and commenting as you always do, much love.

Afterburning look amazing though NVGs.
Really do love the mission scenarios, gives a real picture of an aircraft's capabilities.
“Assuming these Sparrows don’t let me down” famous last words
Hat is off to those jocks of the 80s and 90s they were the last of the OG dog fighters.
2 for 1 Friday. Thanks for making the day that much better man!
That tracer fire was BEAUTIFUL! Loved the video!
TWO GS VIDEOS IN ONE DAY! JUST DOUBLE MADE MY DAY

Love ur Hornet vids! They're my favourite Navy aircraft!
F/A-18E/F vs F-35C (Fox-2 fight) would be epic to see! Navy vs Navy : Old vs New
Day 9
You've gotta love these wild weasel missions, it's like catching the cat with a mouse.
2 videos in one day ?! Broooo that perfect !!!!!!!! You made my day
Everything about this, from start to finish, was unfathomably badass.
Evidently, "Anti Aircraft Anonymous" don't like you ignoring their 12 step program!! 😂😂
Love that hornet sound
2 videos in one day my oh my GS
GS spoils us with these daily uploads haha
Thank God for the extra video today got stuck cooking a brisket tell 3 am and nothing better then some growling sidewinder!
Awesome flying. Would be great to see TACVIEW reviews again.
Great SEAD and strike mission. Flawless
Love the F-18 blue note
The lighting looked so so good. V jealous
An the horner howl is priceless 😁
Great flying as usual!!!!
That was oddly relaxing.
2 vids in one day champ, I love that .

Love the channel..........
Amazing night sortie. Those AAA rounds look scary!
Love the desert storm missions
How did you get the full screen night vision? Or is that a VR thing? Great video!!!

Be interesting to see how that mission would play out in a Super Hornet with the same loadout.
Night fights look so cool!
I believe the AMRAAM missle did see some field testing during Desert Storm, on the then new model F15E.
Though the opportunities were few.
Yeah, I think much of the Iraqi Air Force hightailed it over the border to Iran, IIRC.
Are you using a night vision mod? It looks much more clearer than what I remember. Great vid!
Nothing like afterburners at night to show everyone where you are.
Instead if hornet need to call it f18 the klasdale, work horse of the military!! Love the show night time mission rock. Triple A fire was freaking stunning!
Love to see some FOX-1 fun, can't wait for Heatblur F-4 content!
You must be too young to remember desert storm, but almost the entire country was covered in sustained aaa fire for a week.
love your videos, dude, keep-um coming. the A-10 are the best . . .
Love the night Opps but is incredibly difficult. Takes a lot of practice.
the night vision is so sick
HORNET!!! HORNET!!! HORNET!!! 💪🏽🐝
Night battles are very cool in DCS.
Night carrier landing to finish would have been great.
clean video, nice job
The goggles give great SA on AAA, probably better than in that day.
What timing. Finland just retired its first Hornet: HN-401 was the first one built in Finland and reached the end of its life cycle
A very nice run!
That was awesome.
Night stuff is so crazy cool. Please make more with some f15 long range/ground work
Or a10 ground suppression
Hornet 🐝 is our enemies close to worst nightmares!
That was GOOD STUFF !! FUN TO WATCH !
My 5th grade teacher’s husband was a hornet pilot in desert storm.
Was hoping for the Porta Potty by the Radar to go "Boom!"
I'd love to see more night missions
I would love to see a three way dog fight between the berkut, raptor, and eurofighter or eagle.

Hornet noises intensify..
Just a random historical fact. Some F15Cs did fly combat missions with AMRAAMS towards the end of ODS. Mainly from 33 TFW.
that triple-A man be like: oh s*** they f***** us up and going back home to drink coffee🤷♂
jack of all trades master of aoa
What do you recommend using for rudder controls if you're using an x56 hotas no pedals? I could possibly swing my racing pedals over but I'd love input
Thanks for the video
2 vids in 1 day LFG!!!
I'm bummed about not using Sparrow missiles, I can't make jokes about the enemy losing aircraft to "bird strikes" anymore.
Night fight was cool
Jack of all trades
Master of none
But often better
Than a master of one
I think we need to see more carrier ops.
Do you thoroughly make missions? Or just spawn a whole bunch of stuff and fly it?
7:48 if it's Desert Storm, then isn't Bagdad the most air defended city in the world at the time?
After like the first week of the air assault it became clear that Iraq had a lot of old weapons not modern day ones
It's my understanding that tracer fire look much closer at night than it really is.
Great video

terrain on this map makes it feel like ur not even moving xD
How do you get the whole view to be green like that and not the night vision goggle single dot In the middle look
awesome
Double upload? Typa stuff that’ll make you go “hell yeah”
Are you making these missions yourself or downloading them ? I’d love to fly a desert storm mission
id love to see some fox 1 fights, lots of fast cranking and setting yourself up for the best merge ill bet
Super 👍 Thanks
An f18 vid!!
