This is very interesting. After reading the description, the bridges are supposed to carry 2 people and break at 3 people(with the lightest design winning). Which I think is even more difficult than just making it as strong as possible.
Definitely because making a bridge strong is hard but not as hard as making a bridge strong but not strong enough to hold a certain amount of weight(3 people) so it’s very challenging and that is what makes this challenge fun!
@@r0xdab0x96xo I am structural engineer with bridge engineering sepcialisation and I dont know if you are engineer but today we have such advance computer programs for calculations that it is not that hard at all. I always loved bridge building competitions because it is fun and teach you how to think and also you learn manual skills. BUT when you compare these '' models'' to real bridges there is very few things that connects them. I designed steel model that weight 50kg and with 5m span can take 1000kg and it will have 1,2mm deflection (max load would be at least 2000kg) So you See what proportions are in terms of weight to load. In real structure this ratio is much smaller and for Road cable stayed bridges for example it is around 0,25 (load/bridge weight). I myself designed 300m cable stayed Road bridge at my master degree diploma 😀

You should make your own competition with no sponsor or materials in your backyard and maybe they'll show up. Let them have fun and test their skills at an organized competition.

Even though the last bridge broke with an impressive amount of payload before failure, and although, at first, i thought that the bridge that can withstand the most payload within certain bridge building construction parameters govern by the contest was considered the winner, I realized after reading the description that it's carry two personnel, fail with three and the lightest bridge wins. This contest is awesome in the learning process. Would've been neat to see a suspension bridge but these were all beautifully crafted bridges from some great candidates. Good job structural engineers!

And trusses above the load isn't reliable in this part as there is no beam interconnection between trusses as humans need to pass in this scenario. It's called Warren Trust Which i knew in my Engineering school. Topped in Engineering Board exam in my place 😎

Today UA-cam algorithm recommended to me a bridge building competition from 2013, which I never even knew was a thing until now . Yes of course I watched it. You never smite the UA-cam god.
I was thinking the last group was the winner, until I read the rules: carry two people and break with three. So the earlier bridges actually scored more points for breaking when the 3rd person got on.
@Randomizer Lol, he isn't cringy, he's just a kid, what is normal to you, to him is completely new, and he's still learning stuff, so being able to deduce that it was going to break with 1 person shows that he's gaining knowledge by the minute, which is what kids do.
