Respect his game but i just dont know if he would be as effective in todays nba the shooting would translate of course but he seems slow and not that good of a defender , i can name a couple players that ive seen in the modern nba that i would say are better ( I'm 23 btw this videos is older then i am)

Louisiana Curious You truly don't understand the type of matchup nightmare he is. He has legit PF height, and length, with the quickness of screens, curls, and cuts of a quick SF. No, he's not the fastest SF, but just imagine a PF that could shoot as flawless as Bird, and having his quickness. It's literally unfair if you think about it. Just imagine a SF that's taller than most SFs, and usually can just post you up, and shoot right over you, and with his shooting ability.
Now, imagine if that guy could hit 3s like Bird, and forcing the offense to be way more wide open for your team, thus making it infinitely easier for his teammates on offense. Then, continue to use him in the pick n roll, or pick n pop with his shooting accuracy, and basically there's a 50/50 chance of the ball going in. Now do that for an entire game, and you're basically talking about automatic buckets that make your offense almost automatic, and combine that with his b ball IQ, meaning, knowing exactly when to pass, when to post, when to curl, when to cut, when to be a decoy, when to take it to the rack, and having the height to pass over most players, and being a great passer, being almost automatic with his shot, and being tall enough, where a layup is almost automatic in most instances, and of course if the layups not there, again, his great decision making with the ball.
And make that same player almost automatic with his shot, and you got yourself a freaking machine/robotic basketball player, and in the best way possible.
Larry Bird was literally put on this Earth to be a basketball player, and had the perfect height for his shooting, passing, and post up ability. He is almost the perfect SF, and what you miss out on elite athletecism, you get back in elite shooting.
And in today's league, he would thrive on the soft ticky tack calls, and no one being able to touch him, which makes him even more unguardable.
Basically, he's a quicker Dirk, with better decision making, passing, and everything else relative to his position. Imagine a near perfect version of Dirk, and you have yourself one of the GOATs.
      He was THAT good.

    • @kingtutt880

And here's another example for you. Imagine a perfect version of Klay Thompson with better size relative to his position. So you have a godly version of Klay Thompson, but a bigger version for his position.

I remember watching every game of this series. I was a huge Larry Bird and Celtics fan throughout the 80's, and I can tell you that the Milwaukee Bucks were extremely tough. I knew they had a legitimate chance to knock the Celtics off, you couldn't take anything for granted. Sikma, Cummings and Moncrief were an outstanding trio, and Don Nelson was a great coach. The East was loaded in the 80's... Celtics, Pistons, Sixers, Bucks, Hawks ..that was when the NBA was at it's best

Yes, the East was loaded in the 80s, but the West was a joke. Bird and the Celtics had to go through wars, while Magic and the Lakers were playing patsies every year in the playoffs, and were well rested for the Finals. My biggest regret, is that the Lakers choked against the Rockets in 86. It would've been so much more satisfying to tear up LA in the Finals that year instead of Houston.

The Celtics made things really tough on themselves by losing Game 5 in the Garden where they should have wrapped it up and got some much needed rest and time to heal. Instead it went 7 and we were actually down by 10 points with about 5 minutes left and then Bird took over. Might have been a little easier series against Detroit had we not lost Game 5 in Boston. Only the 2nd loss in that building all year! One of the two home losses was one of those bogus games in Hartford we used to have to play a few times each year. Never could understand that.

If we win that game, I say we beat Detroit in 5 and take LA to 7 in the NBA Finals, while still losing.

McHale didn't get hurt on this play, he was already hurt as in a broken foot, he had an x-ray taken in March of that year (87) and he had a fracture, eventually it became a break because he continued to play on it the rest of the year and in the finals against the Lakers, along with this, Bird claims he was probably playing at 70 % due to his back and he's still playing at such a high level, not to mention they lost Len Bias the previous year, Walton was not able to play anywhere even close to his 86 play which was excellent, point I'm getting at is this Boston Celtics team was still able to get to the finals for the fourth year in a row and they were battered and beaten physically, just goes to show how excellent a basketball team with such determination and guts they were, it's a shame they lost to the Lakers 4 games to 2 because if Bird, McHale, Walton are healthy and Bias didn't die, it's not a stretch their gonna beat the Lakers that year for the championship and probably at least one more title before this group of Celtics, Ainge, Johnson, McHale, Parish, Bird, Walton are no longer together due to retirement, trades , what a shame and if this was the case, them bad boy Pistons never would have gotten past the Celtics to get to the finals, they were lucky those assholes, LoL 🤣

Had we taken care of business in G5 we would've been much more rested for the Pistons and maybe beat them in 5 or 6 instead of having that war of 7 grueling games and wound up taking a massive shit against the Lakers in The Finals when we should have beat them in 6.

A great and gutty win, but any chance the Celtics had to repeat as champions, ended the very next game, *in* Boston, where they lost Game 5 to the Bucks. Because of that, it wound up going a full seven, and the Celtics were down by 8, with about 5 minutes left on their home floor. It took everything they had to come back to win, then were gassed when they played the Pistons in the ECF, and wound up going 7 games as well. Meanwhile, the Lakers had yet _another_ cakewalk out West, and were clearly the healthier, more rested team in The Finals against Boston. Had Boston closed out these Milwaukee Bucks, in Game 5, on The Parquet, I think they likely beat the Pistons in 6, and take the Lakers to 7, before finally losing, in The Finals. Although they would've lost all four games in Los Angeles, they wouldn't have been the crushing, absolutely inexcusable, resounding losses that they were. When you get a chance to close it out, at home, you must do so. Especially against the Lakers, and their three best bench players, wearing the striped shirts.

He beat Bird 2 of 3 Finals, has more MVP's overall (6 to 5), more titles, more head to head wins, the NCAA title. And was never athletic either. He had a fucking set shot. But white people who claim there's a bias against white athletes in sports, always detract from Magic even though he was basically a black, Point Guard version of Bird.

Magic is often regarded as the best point guard of all time and an all time top 5 player. He and Bird are credited with saving the NBA. Never given credit MA. As far as who's better that's such a rhetorical question. Has anyone ever thought of the notion that there is no better? You shouldn't say one is better than the other. So many different circumstances play into the outcome of a game. For instance I believe The 86 Celtics would have beaten the Lakers but we'll never know since they couldn't get past the Rockets that year. What about all the injuries and the death of their top draft pick in 87? What if Magic's shot had missed or what if Larry's shot had fallen? How bout the bench depth? How bout the weak western conference compared to the east? Going all the way back to 79, what about the fact that Bird played with a bunch of scrubs with a before and since unheard of ISU program compared to the team Magic had with a much more established program? Could it have easily gone the other way and Bird be ahead of Magic 3 or 4-1? Is Bird better than Magic? These are all rhetorical questions with no right or wrong answers.

I can side with Bird and talk about Bird winning rookie of the year and finishing ahead of Magic in 8 more seasons in the season MVP award and how Kareem actually won the 80 Finals MVP after Magic's great game 6 and how that award show be in KAJ's home. Magic not given credit? Voters were pressured to change their votes so Magic would win that award since KAJ was not present. Magic is one of the most loved players ever and had the benefit of playing with KAJ who could be considered one of the greatest players ever, a luxury Bird never had. You have a good perspective in my opinion.

For the record, the media fucked Larry Bird out of the 1987 MVP because he was white and in their liberal opinion had no right winning 3, let alone 4, MVP's in a row. But if you look at all the devastating injuries Boston had in 87, including the death of Len Bias and how Bird literally willed them to within 2 wins of the NBA title, there is no doubt who the real MVP was. But Magic being the point guard could control the game more so, and that takes a great basketball IQ. Bird also had a tremendous basketball IQ, we all know that. But basketball IQ I would give Magic the edge. People like to paint Bird as all mental, no physical skills cause he was white. I dont agree. Bird was physically gifted also, especially when he was young. MVP means if you take them off the team, how good would they be. Bird has some hiccups in some clutch moments especially early on, do the research, such as Magic did. Bird's peak was a lil more dominant than Magic's peak I would say. Main thing Bird has was he was a better shooter than Magic. They both wasnt high flyers, extraordinary gifted athletes, but the they played effective and smart. I liken Magic to a Tom Brady, and Bird to an Aaron Rodgers, hows that ?
