What an unexpected joy to see this video in 'reccommendations' this morning! As one who grew up with RT family buses I had no knowledge of the STL gearbox and your simple explanation was ideal for someone like me whose technical is nil. What a pleasant sound to listen to in the cab! I hope we can see more similar videos in future.

As an ex driving instructor with London Country (started on RT's) It was so good to see Leon so easily professional in his style... Loved it, Thanks

Very informative. I didn't know the gear-shift knob was different between crash and pre-select!

That must have been a great day. Thanks for the explanation of the pre select gearbox Leon. Did you really run Victoria to Clapton Pond. Of course in its day STL on route 38 ran Victoria to Chingford (Royal Forest Hotel).

I notice that you can see the road through the pedal openings. Was this normal, or did they originally have gaiters around them? If not it would be mighty cold in winter.

Born in 1957 and brought up in Dartford, I am very, very familiar with RT's (RF's and GS's too) but STL's have always been a slight mystery to me. Therefore, I was absolutely delighted to find this excellent video in Recommends! She looks fabulous! Just one small question (if I may?): Is there any significance to STL seat fabric in the saloon but RT fabric upstairs, please? I am guessing that this came down to availability.

THat's a straightforward continuity error Stuart! Most of the scenes were shot on STL2377 with green moquette but when I did the opening link I was sat on STL441 in the Museum as 2377 was not on site at the time. Well spotted!

@@leon467 Ah, thank you for taking the time to very kindly explain! This was not a criticism upon my part. I downloaded the excellent video upon a u.s.b. stick and we enjoyed it again on our t.v.!

@@stuarthall6631 No I’m glad you pointed it out. I’d hate it if historians of the future ever thought there were different moquettes on different decks!!
