I think the concept is different. The harman is a front firing speaker and sounds best when sitting in front of it. The mania tries to go for a 360 degree sound. It works better from multiple angles but has a rather diffuse sound and no real sweetspot. It's a compromise and a?different approach. But in that comparison in the recording the harman wins, hands down. The mids are a lot more direct and clearer and not as diffused.
Yeah Mania just isn't a good sounding as a 360° speaker ... You will only get a consistent muddy sound in all angles ... Also price is way too high for the competition... The price is in the audiophile range but sound isn't for audiophile at all and no normie will going to go for "just a speaker" as a more well known brand would be better like Bose , JBL etc..
Depends how much you sit in front of a mono speaker to enjoy music; why not just use a proper stereo setup,? I thought these type of speakers were used by people who are "doing things" while listening
As a Mania owner for its size it pushes the boundaries between the possibile and impossible. as for its size the output is similar to speaker twice or 3 times its size and the details when you hear it is closer to a hifi system than a normal Bluetooth speaker I love it
I have this speaker thanks to you and i know it may sound stupid but if youre a listener do not put the speaker facing you instead turn the speaker so either the left or right side is facing you, so both the 3 inch subwoofers are facing left and right and stand up if you place it on a table 3 feet away from the speaker and congrats you have found the sweet spot so when recording the speaker i would place the mics a bit higher up because the 4 full range speakers are facing upwards it gives the image that the devialet mania is really bugger then it actually is, its like taking a flashlight in the darkest room and putting it on top of the ceiling facing directly downwards the flashlight covers a wider area, same principle with this
I got a Mania and a Onyx 7, and the difference between these is that after about 75% volume the Onyx loses bass. The highs and mids are great but the bass thins out. While the Mania will give you that bass at all volume range. Also once you go past like 80% the onyx doesn't really get any louder while the Mania does.
Yeah I know it gets a bump. The thing is at lower volumes the onyx will be louder but once u get them past 75 the Mania will overcome it. I've tested them out on all levels and eqs and different genres
100% agree with what you said of onyx 7. Sounds great till ~70%. Good bass and balanced sound. Higher than that bass doesn't increase.. The good thing about devialet is that bass increases pretty much till max volume
Seems like the Mania's low end is more defined than the Onyx! And I must say that it's impressive as I have the Onyx and it's an amazing speaker. Very linear, very well balanced with amazing Mids. But the low end response of the devialet seems to bring another dimension on the table
Great video! At this point all that’s would be missing is the sound reproduction accuracy ( the one where they match speakers which have similar values on various frequencies ) and also aim to have the flattest line...
I haven't found a better speaker than the Harmon Kardon onyx since the 1st two that came out. I'm still rocking my Harmon Kardon onyx 2.. Still sounds great compared to all the other old speakers that's either blown out or broken. It'll Definitely last longer than other speakers specially wit me blasting my Harmon Kardon onyx 2.
The Devialet´s bass is not revealed on this video but in real life it´s quite substantial. It is however dependant on where it´s located. Since Devialet does not really have any resonance chamber, port, or passive radiator, it actually is very dependant on surroundings. I would simply put it that Mania plays the room it´s in. Best put in a corner or agains the wall. Also sounds way better in concrete wall room than plaster room where sound is absorbed more.
Studio 6 sounds better, but its impressive how the mania being so small can have such sound. The mania does have a better attack response, probably because it has more power. Still the harman Kardon is probably the best 200 bucks bluetooth speaker on the market, lets not forget the devialet costs 800 bucks...
The Harman sounds a lot better, clearer, punchier and more spacious. Maybe the Devialet would sound better against a wall as I think it's designed to reflect sound to increase stereo width and bass. Could you do a sound test against a wall?
I'm sure the Mania sounds better and fuller in person. The mic is just in front of these speakers and the Onyx has its tweeters right in the front so the mic captures that but Mania has its tweeters on top at a 45 degree angle so the mic is not able to capture that well.
I agree, unfortunately it was very difficult to capture! But I can guarantee you, if you put the Devialet against a wall or listen to it from any angle other than the front, the HK Onyx simply cannot compete! It makes it much more flexible in where you can listen to it!
I received my Mania a week ago and placing it against the wall or corner deeply enhances the bass and overall sound. Out in the open, it is has less of a punch and not as impressive but still sounds good.
The deeper the bass is on the speaker, it will need a wall to reflect it better. Even though the harman sounds better, the devialet is better because it has deeper bass, thats why you cant really hear it without a wall.
Mania sounds slightly more premium and it somehow makes me think that I'm listening to virtual speakers that are located in the corners of the room rather that coming directly out from the speaker. Like wow 🤯

Hi Roman! Thanks for your comment! The NAIM mu-so is a lovely speaker! It is a lot more powerful than the Mania. However the advantage the Mania has is that it is really small and portable, you can just pick it up and go where you want to. Another advantage is that for its size, the bass it can produce is probably even lower than the NAIM Mu-so at certain volume levels! You will be shocked how much bass it can produce. It also has multi directional sound which is a huge advantage. Really 360 sound all over!
I just received the mania..... It sounds good but I think everybody's going to be disappointed by the price. It just doesn't get loud enough. This should be half the price.
@Just Stuff Look at Rtings review. look at the frequency response graph. It shows a peak at 54hz at -3db. Then drops below -6db. Which is the cut-off for their testing measurements. However, you can still hear lower than that. There is a second peak at 28.2hz at -6.2db. It gets close. So it can hit those sub-bass frequencies but it just won't have a lot of volume behind it. But you know put it In a small room and corner load it and I think it might surprise you. Imo I still don't think it's worth the price as the overall total output is meh. its to small for the price. if it was $399 it would be a better buy. there also seams to be quality issues with the mania which is bs for a $800 speaker
@Just Stuff f3 of 30 is such a stupid standard. It does not tell you how deep a speaker can play. Especially if there is a second bass spike after the initial drop. 3db down is just not realistic for this speaker as it already is not that powerful. It does -6.2 db at 28hz on rtings frequency test. can 100% hear that. Is it loud? No but it does play it. F3 is where the speaker starts to play less and less. If you go by -3db then it can only play down to 128hz according to rtings graph. That is a stupid indication of bass depth. And no I don't have this speaker so I didn't test it. It's not worth the price. But at the end of the day this speaker can do 28hz but just not to your standard.
Hey man! Been watching a load of your videos and I really like the 'vibes' for a lack of a better term lol I have one question about the Mania: a lot of people are raving about the bass performance, and obviously that kind of thing does not come through properly on video. So is it really that good? Devialet says it can go all the way down to 30 Hz, does that seem realistic? Rtings measured it to start dropping off hard at about 50 Hz. And can you really feel the bass? I'm seriously considering getting one!
Well, I can actually answer this question myself now, since I am listening to one of these little speakers in my home as we speak. The answer: yes, it absolutely can go down to 30 Hz. The bass response of this tiny little orb is actually a little bit mind bending. It seems almost impossible for it to be putting out the kind of low frequencies as it does, and with incredible detail. I have yet to be able to crank it all the way up (it gets real loud), but everything has been purely amazing so far. I love it.
but your wrong. the mania can play really well down to 30hz. even has some bass at 28hz. the onyx has nothing below 38hz. i have one and tested it. but the onyx has more powerful bass between 40 and 75hz for sure.
It does have more low end but a hefty spike at around 50Hz which quickly fades away when you go down and above that, making it sound more bass heavy but in reality Mania goes much lower with a relatively flat freq response.

Hey man! Been watching a load of your videos and I really like the 'vibes' for a lack of a better term lol
I have one question about the Mania: a lot of people are raving about the bass performance, and obviously that kind of thing does not come through properly on video.
I love it.
Using your video, I compare blind test. The bass is about the same, Onyx has slightly deeper and more powerful bass.
but your wrong. the mania can play really well down to 30hz. even has some bass at 28hz. the onyx has nothing below 38hz. i have one and tested it. but the onyx has more powerful bass between 40 and 75hz for sure.
Mania is not worth the price. Just the bass responce.
Have you compared it against the Beloit 17 or 20 already?
Mania is missing a lot of midrange hete
The HK has much clearer sound.
harman kardon verry better
The HK speaker has more low end and the onyx has a balanced sound Id go for the onyx. Also the HK sounds a bit distorted
you need a drug test lol
It does have more low end but a hefty spike at around 50Hz which quickly fades away when you go down and above that, making it sound more bass heavy but in reality Mania goes much lower with a relatively flat freq response.
Nice
You are playing this speaker wrong.
The woofers should be facing sideways.
That is wrong way you are playing it.
it should be 360 so theres not bad angle
its just siunds muffled
sounds
Yeah you can't even pair the mania... They dropped the ball on this shit. Especially not having support for Chromecast
Google barely even has support for Chromecast lmfao. I am a Google person all day but not much stuff uses Chromecast. I have 2 Sony TVs both with Android OS. The older one has Chromecast and the newer doesn't.
@@tafumii well not Chromecast, just the ability to cast from Android
@@jasonmelo9379 it's the life we chose unfortunately. Android is slowly getting some standards for seamless experiences like RCS messaging. But we definitely need something like Airplay for Android across all the brands. That's what Chromecast tried to be.
Its too expensive Mania , i have 2 harman kardon onyx studio 6 and belive me , i have 2 and the price for bout is 450€ , to buy 2 Mania is 2000€ , wtf . Hello.
🙂
Can you please buy JBL Boombox 3 and Devialet Phantom I.
Make a video about JBL Boombox 3 vs Devialet Phantom 1 108 model.
🥺
No other UA-camr has made a video about the two and it is soo lame!
I wanna show the JBL Fanboys that Devialet Phantom 1 is alot better than JBL Boombox 3!
Because they don't understand!
They say there is no better JBL Boombox 3 sized speakers???
😂
Devialet Phantom 1:
"Let me introduce my self😊."
It is similar in size and absolutely destroys JBL Boombox 3!
😂
Hey! Unfortunately I can’t afford to buy any of those speakers even though I would love to do a review on both them!
Devialet Phantom I destroys JBL Boombox 3.
It is next level.
The Mania is bad tbh.
But Phantoms are the real deal.
💪😎💪
@@jblking2993 BROKIE TALK!
That's why you won't buy a Devialet.
Devialet Phantom I Gold destroys JBL Boombox 3!
NEG diff!
💪😎💪
@@jblking2993 My phone also costed 1200€, but i have to buy a new one soon.
Old phone.
I'm gonna buy Vivo X90 Pro Plus.
It has better camera, all Bluetooth codecs, Bluetooth 5.3 of course and good battery life and all Google apps.
Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra has basically the same camera and it lacks Bluetooth codecs. (According to the leaks.)
Samsung can't go all out, because otherwise Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra would be too expensive.
Vivo > Samsung.
And there are 0 videos about JBL Boombox 3 vs Devialet Phantom 1 108dB.
So, stop the cap!
чувак, восновном уже лет как 5 все слушают рэп и трэп. ты включил нелепые мелодии для раскрытия потенциала этих колонок.
Harman win.
Ooooo😮😮😮 Harman kardan ❤❤
