    As far as pressing, you'd have better luck with your heat press. However, this backed twill is used mostly for applique and for applying letters/numbers to jerseys.
    As far as the border, that's a simulated merrow stitch like you'd see in a professional patch where a merrow machine is used.
    As far as process, this is what I do. I sew a cut line and the initials, then cut the patch shape out. Then I hoop plastic and sew a placement stitch, stop my machine, spray with kk100 away from the machine and place the patch inside the placement line. Last I sew the border. That way you don't have to deal with the fuzzies or risk of cutting stitches when you trim.

      @@BoricuaSewingCrafts I'm thinking of investing in Embrillance because of the merrow stitch add on. I have Pulse (Tajima) and Hatch, but neither have this nice merrow border.

      Which version of Embrilliance are you using? Mine does not have that neat patch border option. I’ve been trying to create this exact method but do not know how to put a satin border around my finished patch to avoid the unfinished edge.

    I suggest using a thick cut or tear away backing with that twill... toy plan on sewing patch. HOOP 2 LAYERS OF CUT AWAY THEN AFTER THE OUTLINE STITCH, HAND PLACE YOUR TWILL.. AFTER TACK DOWN STITCH CUT EXSESS TWILL.. LET IT FINISH UP❤

    Thanks for another great video-you answered so many of my questions. I agree that the glue on the twill was not meant to permanently glue the patch to item. Do you find the Heat n Bond Ultra holds through wear and tear of multiple trips through washer/dryer? I just heard about Dime's Patch Attach and was wondering how it compared to the Ultra. Ever used it? Does the glue on the twill build up on needles? Ever use Beacon's liquid Patch Attach?.. NOT so good reviews Thanks again.

    • @BoricuaSewingCrafts
      @BoricuaSewingCrafts  Рік тому +1

      Hi Barb. I use the heat and bond just hold the patch in place and then I sew it on. That is the best way.

    • @Barb515
      @Barb515 Рік тому

      @@BoricuaSewingCrafts The twill probably has enough glue to temporarily hold patch well enough to sew it on. It says not to sew through Heat N Bond Ultra (really gums up the needle) so I use the Light version IF I can sew them on. but I do use the Ultra to iron patch to hats and bags I can not hoop or sew on as I only have a flat bed machine. ie, I only use Ultra on items that are rarely put through the laundry but hard to sew.. I tell folks that there isn't a glue out there that will hold a patch to items that are laundered often

    Hi, thank you for the video! I've been trying to sort out how to make professional patches on a home machine. I keep seeing that poly patch twill is "the best" option. I thought the adhesive option was to create a better patch foundation.. and everything says the iron on is temporary, until you sew it onto the item..
    Your thoughts on this info would be really helpful!

    Yes, I agree with you about desiring more thickness. On that pdf I sent you, check out "1. Fabric Sandwich". Some of those ideas are from the Embroidery Nerds on UA-cam. The one you might like is 1c. Poly Twill and Fusible Poly Mesh to prevent fraying (which is basically your Twill with its built in glue)...but then also use Black 2.5 oz Gunold 2085 Cutaway Stabilizer (Maybe you can float this, or maybe they press it to the Twill before they hoop it all. I can't remember). I think that recipe was from The Embroidery Nerds. And then when you are all done, you would still cut it and apply the Heat and Bond or some other Heat seal like you normally do. The reason I think they do it this way is because it saves you a lot of time stitching since you don't have to stitch the Background.

    • @BoricuaSewingCrafts
      @BoricuaSewingCrafts  2 роки тому +1

      I agree that not stitching the background is a true timesaver and it also saves you on thread as well. I do like the way the fabric feels.

    Jeanette thanks for this informative video learned a lot. May I ask what kind of iron you have and would it be hot enough to use for applying fusible poly mesh cutaway stabilizer onto garments that it would stay on when people wash the garment or would I be better off buying a heat press? I’ve heard some people just so fine with their iron but my iron doesn’t get hot enough I don’t feel to feel assured the polymesh or a patch for instance would stay on. Thanks for any help as always

    From what I’ve seen in videos/researched the poly twill is for iron on appliqué projects that’s why the adhesive is on back… so it’s a thicker more durable longer lasting material… that’s more than likely why it comes in a variety of colors…
    Takeaway: If used as intended you get a no fill patch with a professional looking appliqué for long lasting durability especially on frequently washed items and heavily used items like jackets and caps without the bulk…

      Yes. That's what I did. I stitched it out and then pressed it. However the bobbin thread covers the adhesive around the edges. So I think you will still need to apply heat and bond.

    Thats how I do it too except I prefer my patch stiffer and try not waste any twill.
    I first hoop heavy cutaway, stitch a placement stitch and add the piece needed for twill, repeat the placement stitch then sew the interior design. Remove the project from the hoop and trim right along the outer edge of the placement stitch.
    Next hoop some plastic or badgemaster, repeat the placement stitch again and put the patch right on it, you can use some spray to keep it from moving.
    Sew a tack down stitch then the final stitch satin edge.
    If you used plastic pull it all off the back and use any type of heatnbond you want.

      I'm going to give this a try. I like it when the patch feels stiff. It feels like better quality.
