Putin has a warrant for his arrest issued by the International Criminal Court AKA Den Haag. That's why he had to sit out the 2022 BRICS Summit in December 2023. South Africa is a signator of the Rome Statue which makes legal the ICC's arrest jurisdiction in all of those signing Nations. They are obliged, by their own constitutional law, to arrest Putin for extradition to Den Haag if he ever steps foot on their soil with that active warrant.
russia is a self destructive nation with thoughts like the world shouldn’t exist if russia doesn’t exist. The west is not as self destructive and their populations aren’t as open to being lead to destruction.
Russia might enter talks as a ploy to delay consequences for refusing to negotiate. They'll bloviate and pound their shoes on the table but never stop fighting. It will only stop when russia can't continue financially and socially.
Ukraine spent months negotiating with Russia in 2022 and every time they made agreement Russia changed and increased its demands. US trade with russia is negligible.
