The only way Russia will accept a deal is if the alternative is much worse. So the alternative needs to be much worse. If I was Trump I would make a pre-condition of talks the correcting of all Russian memorials to state all the time they were involved in WW2, and keep hammering the point they collaborated with the Nazi's for years. If they cannot be honest with themselves how can they be expected to keep any peace deals?

Putin has a warrant for his arrest issued by the International Criminal Court AKA Den Haag.
That's why he had to sit out the 2022 BRICS Summit in December 2023. South Africa is a signator of the Rome Statue which makes legal the ICC's arrest jurisdiction in all of those signing Nations. They are obliged, by their own constitutional law, to arrest Putin for extradition to Den Haag if he ever steps foot on their soil with that active warrant.

Ukraine spent months negotiating with Russia in 2022 and every time they made agreement Russia changed and increased its demands. Negotiations could go on for years as they did in Korea in 1950s and in Paris with North Vietnamese in 1970s. Meanwhile the war and attacks continued. Negotiations could be a useless distraction and waste of time. Even if we reach an agreement with Putin he will violate the treaty as soon as possible.

I watched until they started talking about how Ukraine aid wasn't costing the US that much because the weapons systems are made in America and this helps the US economy. Which is a staggering bit of economic illiteracy. Here's a clue: the money still has to come from somewhere. The US is borrowing that money against future earnings by the American economy, ie, Americans. It's not a magical money printer. This goes for Britain and the rest of Europe. We can argue that this is an investment in peace and that that is beneficial long term. But don't pretend every pothole you hit or every social program you love won't be affected by our choices.

US trade with russia is negligible. Taxes on this near non-existent trade are therefore a nonsense but a western alliance (the north America, Europe and other democratic allies) can lean on China with respect to exports of 'dual use' goods to russia, without which Putin's war of choice cannot be waged.
China's exports to russia represent a miserly 2% of their exports - worth very little to a country with its own economic crisis in progress. A 5% loss of trade to other markets would crash the Chinese economy and bring the CCP (or at least Xi) down.

The battle in Ukraine is largely a land battle, so our defence industry just isn’t as useful without significant changes, which the Us is already set up for. We are investing for Ukraine though e.g. BAE expanding 155mm production for Ukraine by opening new site, artillery barrel contracts etc. Also GCAP to move away from US dependence caused by us all adopting F35.

The biggest issue for us in America is that every shipment of weapons we give to Ukraine means less weapons for our military. China and the U.S are one accident or incident away from a possible conflict. It's very easy for people from othe countries to say just give them more. We are getting very impatient with Euorope. We are very tired of seeing aid leave in every direction while we have isues here. We support Ukraine overwhelmingly but that support weakens every time we hear about more aid from us and very little from the E U. Come on already, yous can do more right now and you are much closer. Speaking of Poland, they just made firearms training for schoolchildren mandatory, they do not have a gun culture by any means. So some in Europe are awake. I think Americans need to see Ukraine as a Pearl Harbour moment, but this time you are getting a "heads up" (The UK sent one of our top spies to warn Hoover about Pearl Harbour, but he ignored the warning, so we gave you a "heads up" then too).
