I like this type of guide for Blaster. I think it’s nice to have more of a fundamental sort of guide with stuff like hyper stats and v matrix because all the Blaster Guides are just for combos and other mechanics. And it’s always nice to see more Blasters around that get a kick out of the class. This was very well done.
As a supplement, I kind of want to tack on a wall of text here. I’d say the stuff in the video is much more relevant for fundamentals, but here are some relevant things you want to know as a Blaster that I’ve picked up from my time maining the class. This might get into a little more intermediate or advanced stuff and is mainly for bossing, but I think these are very important. This will be a wall of text just as a warning. A long one, where the points aren’t exactly in order of importance.
A pretty important thing about charge mastery that wasn’t mentioned in the video was how it prevents you from being knocked back by anything. Even stuff that still pushes you if you have 100% stance. Some moves in harder bosses have that property, and armoring through can mean you stay on the boss. All charge skills do it at some point in their animations, you can get Bunker Buster to do it with the hyper passive, Gatling Punch gives it to you as long as you are still doing the attack, Vitality shield(the active that heals you) also gives you automatic charge mastery for the duration, and Hyper Magnum Punch gives it to you when before you do the punch, but invincibility starts only after you stop charging and do the punch itself.
If you delay the jump input to cancel bobbing/weaving, instead of stopping almost in place, you can move slightly forward or back. Over multiple combos can actually create enough distance to dodge stuff or space with the boss. This is mainly so you don’t have to drop the combo to walk or flash jump to dodge something. Remember that this should only be for dodging since it slows down your combos, and being stationary can sometimes be better.
Kind of a funny thing you can do is hold left or right while comboing and still have the character move. For example, if you’re facing right and are holding right while doing a combo with weaving, you’ll still move forward. This isn’t super useless, as you can use opposite directions to offset the movement from the combo, or do it in the same direction to move super quickly at or away from the boss. It also means you can turn around while comboing if the boss moves behind you.
Switching between doing combos with bobbing and with weaving without screwing up the combo is also a good skill to have. This can let you stay mostly stationary if you alternate enough, go from moving at the boss to away from it and vice versa, or switch to the direction you need to slowly dodge an attack using the delaying from the tip above. Both this and the previous two are super important for staying on the boss and minimizing time you aren’t comboing. Doing that is your MO is a Blaster, and that especially holds true for Cannon Overdrive and Rocket Punch where you want to make every second of uptime count.
Ballistic Hurricane and Gatling Punch won’t let you hold down a charge skill during the attack, but if you hold one down, use the skill, then let the charge skill go, the skills will be cancelled like anything else. For Ballistic Hurricane it lets you get max combo stacks instantly without having to sit through the uncancellable uppercut and without using a 5th job skill, and Gatling Punch has an annoying part at the end where you can’t move and don’t have charge mastery that you can cancel out of with it(it has killed me before and it will for you too). With Revolving Blast, you can do a similar thing to end the bind early but you can already charge during the skill.
Learning to cancel the Charged Hammer Smash with Bobbing/Weaving can be very useful for a few things. With Bunker Buster you usually want to cancel the animation by holding down a charge skill, using Bunker Buster, then letting go of the charge skill. But you can cancel Bunker Buster with Hammer Smash, then cancel Hammer Smash with Bobbing/Weaving(there are guides for this with a visual if you don’t understand). Doing this means not only both the extra damage and the movement, but placing the final damage debuff on the boss in the middle of a combo. The cooldown of the Dynamo Gauge and Bunker Buster I think I’d around ten seconds, so doing that means you don’t have to watch the boss to see if the debuff ran out. It will always be there as long as you do it every Bunker Buster.
Doing that will also give you a four bullets from the amount you had. You can do that same thing both with minus the Bunker Buster to refill four as well. This is only for the fastest casts of Bullet Blast, since doing it with less than six means you have to wait for the reload animation for the remaining bullets. Without Cannon Overdrive the reloading time takes at least more than a second before you can continue mashing, which is time you’re not doing combos on the boss.
Another thing to minimize stuff like debuffs or other stuff that takes your eyes away from the boss or your hotkeys, Three No Reloads or six Shotgun Punch combos with Rocket Punch on completely fill up the dynamo gauge from 0 charge. During Cannon Overdrive, as soon as you do the first Bunker Buster, count to the appropriate number with the combo you’re using and then Bunker Buster + Charge Skills and repeat. This means you don’t have to look at the dynamo gauge as well during this since it recovers fast enough to start filling up again once you start comboing.
Don’t use Gatling Punch and Bullet Blast during Rocket Punch and/or Cannon Overdrive unless it’s for an or damage reduction. I’m not sure about Bullet Blast with Cannon Overdrive since it buffs Revolving Cannon-related Skill Damage, but these skills will take away from your uptime with those buffs. Your other burst buffs last longer than Rocket Punch and Cannon Overdrive so using it after will still buff their damage.
And finally, lift your fingers off the corresponding key when you combo. This screwed me up by making me drop Bobbing/Weaving input or not have Magnum Punch go off. Please lift your fingers so they aren’t still holding down a key when you do the next input because it can screw you up. Also as more of a general tip all classes benefit from, setting the setting in the Control Panel of your computer that sets the repressing time between keys to minimum will also help.

A lot of the stuff you talking about is already added into the video and I talk about combos in the combo video.
I lift out the anti-knockback because I felt like it was too much extra info for the blaster. I think the blaster is already overwhelming to play and all my other guide videos I’ve always talked about anti-knock back stuff so I feel like I should just leave it out.
I was talking about consistent damage a few times in the video and I was trying to mention that you can use Bob/weave to to dodge attacks but like I said in the video I don’t have the mechanics to do that so I just jumped a dodge it:)
I also don’t want to over talk too much about a skill because I don’t like making long videos so I keep it short.
This was a short and non advanced guide.
      What’s the control panel thing?

@@Natms Oh, I based this off of just this video. My bad, should’ve checked that out first. I’d hope a good amount of this is still new, because I tried not to repeat anything from this video while still getting some important stuff. It being a little more of a beginners guide was why I wanted to make this a supplement.
And the Control Panel thing was something I saw on a Reddit Post. This one:
      www.reddit.com/r/Maplestory/comments/nd5j9u/many_classes_can_benefit_form_adjusting_the/
The post explains it pretty well. In general it helps between classes that alternate or press multiple keys like combo classes. For Blaster it should help for the Magnum Punch + Double Blast Link to actually go off and charge skills. It does alter the timing for combos as a warning.

I'm personally choosing Blaster BECAUSE it takes a lot to learn. I made a Kanna and just gave up at around level 160 because I couldn't see myself just mindlessly spamming Shikigami Haunting the whole time while refreshing Kishin. I tried out Cadena as well, and even though she was fun, I ended up bored. However, I DID like how I wasn't subjected to just spamming one ability the way Kanna does.
And now I'm getting into Blaster. Let me just say, I play on a PS4 controller using reWASD, and I was actually able to make it work! I'm still practicing the combos and it's so much fun once you start getting it down. I was still on the fence about a few things, but this video kinda sold me on sticking with this class.

Nice guide you put out man. Especially considering that you took the time learn the class seemingly well. Your information is pretty much spot on and a good addition to blaster media. By the way you mentioned that blaster has a hard time positioning which is about the only thing i disagree in this video. I think its because of bob/weave that blaster has the best positioning abilities in the game. The feature to micromanage your position as you fight is exactly why blaster has the best potential for highest consistent DPM because they will stick to the boss the longest compared to other classes that have to use their 'rush' skills or mobility skills to reposition, wasting 1-2s every 4-10s.
Still, gave this video a like, because it's honestly good content. Thanks for it!

Is there a way we can get a Blaster's opinion on 1handed play vs 2handed, and what keyboards seem to play the class smoother while comboing? I've practiced this class on a few, and it seems that mechanical keyboards seem to require much more needed finger movement and such to really get the combos down.

    • @Natms

1h vs 2h?? Blaster’s wep only comes in one size??
It doesn’t matter what keyboard you use, I use to think the same thing too but doesn’t matter. Turns out that the more times I practice the more I start to learn that it doesn’t matter what kind of keyboard.
watch my combo video and keep practicing.
if you feel like your keyboard is just too slow, you can always try this ua-cam.com/video/3KNw7h6sSbQ/v-deo.html

The best blaster in my world says go for the low profile types so that you can combo faster due to shorter travel distance than conventional mech keyboards. Especially if you're more prone to using SGP combos. Of course most blasters will say NRL does more and I think NRL does more anyways but thats something to think about for keyboard matters. I swtiched from membrane to mechanical about 8months ago and I for sure prefer mechanical. The membrane feels mushy and slow in comparison although faster with short travel distance. I bet it would feel even better on a low profile keyboard which I do not own (for now?)
Used to play 1 handed but that was too much effort for my left hand so i was like fk that and made it 2 handed. I do the NRL with my right hand, cancels and SGP on my left. 1 handed has its uses as your arrow keys input will be smoother and faster by a split second. Even with 2 hand blasters, you can still mitigate the time it takes to press/return hand position to arrow keys by keeping your ring finger and thumb on the left/right keys. Feels awkward at first but it will settle in.

Blaster is certainly harder than Cadena. But I will disagree on being able to learn Cadena's combos in one day. Cadena's comboing gets harder when you go against bosses like lucid and Lotus that you get punished by moving around. You will need to use thrash to animation cancel everything so that Cadena doesn't move. It took me almost a month to finally get the muscle memory down to not mess up a cancel in bossing.
Then when you add CD hat and CD skip inner & Grandis Blessing into it, Cadena players will need to be able to adjust combos (all with animation cancels)on the fly while cool down watching in bossing. That being said, players always have an option not animation canel their combos and stick with one preset combo and spam thrash until the cool downs are back. That I say is easy enough to master in one day.

I've played alot of classes due to union and master each class including DB , Adele, phantom, kaine, mage class all, Warrior class and all thief class. Xenon included.. But I've never mastered blaster yet as there is literally too many keys. Also all my mules use akechi set since it's cheaper than absolab. Except main and sub main which is Adele and DB. DB bossing is hard due to limited movement control. Blaster is a fun class if done right. But the learning steep for most players is really steep. Even some kaine players don't do it right on the new job. Where u can chain hook and attack any platform. Drop down launch a skill to suck mobs, lower platforms can combo till upper third platform if done right. Your playstyle is close to godlike control due to mastering the basic. It will be fun to see if you have done some gears or reach a range of 5m with max core main skills. By that time please do share your bossing experience.

Before and after I stopped playing Maple I was always into fighting games. I had every BlazBlue and guilty gear till the Advent of PS4 and xbone. You are correct. I'm no where near your level of play but I can do no reload on command after about 4 hours thanks to fighting game exp. I also didn't know blaster was that high up in damage. I honestly chose the char because it was a melee close range class which is new to me and you can punch mobs into other mobs. I'd love some new friends
