I don't think I'll ever be willing or able to put as much effort into my car as the Guru can but frankly now I only really watch his videos for the hilarious euphemisms and innuendos!
Great stuff as always. You should definitely make a general winter prep video. Flaps, filler caps, locks and other things get tricky to use when it's below zero or snowy or stuff, and regular silicone leaves nasty marks. We demand proper instructions from professionals.
Dear Guru, Been a fan for a long time. Here in NJ, we are banned / barred from pumping our own gas! This means the cap being dropped against the paint by the o so skilled attendant and then they slam the nozzle in as hard as they possibly can, then slam the lid shut when done with their rusty & dirty sharp thick finger nail, right on the paint, just like I like it. Mmm it gives me the chills just thinking about it
Many cars (e.g. VWs) will have a small tube running inside the fuel cap area to allow water to drain, this will get clogged with dirt or debris and the filler area will trap water. A thin 10-inch long wire or guitar wire does wonders at clearing out the drain tube.
Long reach Vikan brushes and Surfex, solvers of many problems. The Surfex can be diluted down considerably and still performs, my favourite bulk buy :)
cool video! and as always, very thorough. now, i have a car with no fuel filler cap - just a cover. what would you recommend there in order not to push water into the filler hose?
Small plastic bag with an elastic band or a nitrile glove over to seal it before cleaning. If you’re unsure though maybe just stick to a damp brush/towel if it’s not too dirty.
Hey Joe, great video. What would you recommend for more stubborn dirt caught in the hard to reach covers? If tried apc, citrus pre-washes and tfr with no luck
@@ExpressionCulture Hmm maybe a strong wheel cleaner just obviously don't let it dry around there. If not, a heavy dressing to disguise whatever it is as you might with polish/wax residue on plastic trim.
Brilliant Thank you very much I have ordered some of the anti-rust Snowfarm which am i looking forward to using soon before the winter sets in and keep the car full protected with a ceramic coating as well thanks for the video
What model is the white car in this video? Looks a bit Toyota in some elements but most Toyotas have the fuel flap on the other side... It's throwing me off!
Hi I have removed all the decals from my mini bus, i have tried tcut to remove the ghost letters but I can still see them can you recommend any products that will do a better job cheers jimmy
T-cut should do it as should any other modern polish, especially when applied by machine. Are you sure it hasn’t faded under the lacquer (if there is some)?
@@CarCleaningGuru thanks for your reply the paint work under the decals looks perfect it must were the paint around the decals has faded due to exposure to the sun I have only owned the bus for 2months the previous owners mustn't have polished and protected the paint work but appreciate the reply cheers jimmy ps have met you once before covid outside New Brighton morisons when owned the blue car
@@MrScousejimmy if it’s single stage paint it will polish out with a bit of elbow grease but if it’s faded under the lacquer then there’s nothing you can do I’m afraid, much like my current car that’s going pink 😫.
My car doesn't have a fuel cap its one of them automatic ones you just shove the fuel pump in and it opens up curious if water is more likely to seap inside?
It would be nice if we had a good bilt hamber supplier in the U.S. Just someone to supply to Amazon at least. The products seem good but are really overpriced with the resellers we have available.
Yes - there was a voluntary recall in place for a number of years, as it was a flaw in the original plastics themselves. Lexus dealers are replacing them free, and they may still be doing that.
The thing is though when you sell the car the next owner may not know what grade of fuel to use, considering you don't see the label 99% of the time I'm not sure removing important information from the car is such a good idea. I love your vids but can't agree with you on this one occasion.
Top tip use however much you like but if you’re going to the trouble of making a video about it and it’s never been cleaned before feel free to use a bit more than you think you might need to ensure it gets properly sorted on camera without the need for repeated reapplication 👍.
Honestly use how much (or as little) as you see fit but experience tells me a liberal dousing up front of areas like these is often more effective than having to go back and do it all again because you tried to save 6 sprays worth of bulk product.
Bro how is your word choice so good all the time. This man scored 10/10 on all his essays for using 15 $1.00 words in every single sentence he wrote!
I’m reading a script that I spent days writing so cheating really.

Wow I’ve never come across such a thorough detail of a petrol flap! Thanks Guru!

This was super satisfying. Do a video exclusively on door jambs next.
Already did one a while ago on his Volvo - its the "Shut It! Door Shut Detailing DIY"
Today I was years old when I learned that it is jambs instead jams🤓
This has given me the knowledge and confidence to do this next time I wash the car now never done it in 2 years

That’s annoying!
Nothing better than clean flaps 👍🏻😂
Well done Joe. This is an area of a vehicle that often gets overlooked, and people aren't always sure of how to clean it.
No it doesn’t.
I'm sure I heard the "Flying Scotsman" going past at the start of the video 🚂 That trigger finger is outstanding
I never thought of doing this.
Thanks for the video.
Great video, love watching these 👍
Will any all purpose cleaner work?
Yes!! Need to do this on my ‘91 Civic.

Yeh mine has one, had a great shot of it draining after the wash but forgot to include it 🤦♂️
any video on how to clean and care for honeycomb grill?
that would be awesome
So relaxing and informative! Lucky I caught this during my lunch break.
The intro is hilarious.
Thanks for this. I was looking for an in depth tutorial on how to clean the flaps since the wife wanted hers doin 🤭😏
Just had to check my calendar to see if it was 1st April, especially when the wheel brush was used at 06:56 - not going to do the paintwork much good!
My wife said can you sort her flaps out...she doesn't even own 2 cars though 🤷♂
Beat me to it! 😂😆
😂
Your saying she owns an Airplane..?? 😄
Jim Davidson, is that you?

As if you knew I was planning to include this in my next wash. This part gets overlooked a lot.
Always remember to wipe your flap clean after every wash.

I wonder if this area is dirty around it could it cause a EVAP leak code?
When looking at buying cars, this is one of the first things I look at

And what about capless inlets? Quite common this days.
Something like a nitrile glove over the inlet to seal it then just clean around it as best you can.
Any cleaner and I’ll be sticking my 10” in there 😂😂 xx
Fueltastic, thanks
Frigging love Surfex HD. Its witchcraft I tell thee! 🤣
I love doing a clean in that sopt so satisfying ☺️☺️😏

Yeh you will need to cover/seal it with something first.
Cleaning inside of the flap stops fuel creeping across the dirt then down your pannel.
Also worth holding an old micro fibre cloth on the underneath of the petrol pump nozzle every time you fill up.
Lube is good for a sticky flap
About time!!
Weather knocked this one back 4 days 😫🤷♂️.

how about capless vs water ?
Nitrile glove over it helps.
Thanks for the video. Will clean the wife’s flaps later.
Did you say gash cap?
Nobody want to come face to face with a filthy flap. Puts you right off 👍
I'm confused my car runs on Red diesel but it doesn't say that on the flap.
Big bad man

"exposing your neglected nooks and crannies in public"
Thing is, not to let it get dirty in the first place and be careful when putting fuel down the hole.
You have to be really lazy to not pop the cap open and give it just even a quick spray of water 😳
Top tip use 1/2 a bottle of apc to clean the damn gas cap. Wtf

Probably not the best person to follow a guide to. The amount of product used is utterly ridiculous, wasteful, and against the product directions.
