Invaluable info, delivery and channel. Been following for years. Apologies for lengthy comment. Been using Husqvarna forever, mainly because it’s what I started on and know the machine inside and out. Yesterday I cautiously purchased my first Stihl, and was concerned about oil leaking problems… By the time I got home with the brand new saw it had leaked all over my van. I’m on my way back to return it and placing an order for my first Echo chainsaw (3410) strictly based on your recommendations. I’ve never used an actual carving bar after all these years mainly because i couldn’t afford it. Perhaps Echo would consider a sponsorship. I’m also a huge Makita fan and have acquired an abundance of their tools over the years. Keep up the great work, it’s incredibly inspiring
@ Wow… thanks for the instant reply, Ryan. You are a rarity in so many ways. - I ordered the Echo 3410 with the 12” dime. Which saw would you recommend? Also, wrapping up a large eagle in flight on a standing eight foot triple trunk of a Black Locust tree and wondering what you would recommend to preserve it. Any help is appreciated.
Dude how do you not post videos on the regular!? Your channel should be MASSIVE! I’ve been following your work since way back in the day. You’re crazy talented, wish you would do tutorials and share your wisdom. Thanks for the info on the gear! Peace and positive vibes from southern Cali.
As a rustic artist and a wood sculptor one of my best friends is a dewalt variable rotary sander 5” sanding discs. Uses like 40 grit bulk pack sand paper, rips material down , has some flex to it. Can’t even guess how many years I’ve beat the bloody hell out of this tool.
Thanks man...im a carved in Jersey on my 4th year and im loyal ad to echo...i can only dream about being sponsored one day .. My girl is a nurse and i got a 9 month old girl im trying to watch her and carve when she sleeps.i wrk at home...these videos you make are awesome...thank you and wish we could carve together
Appreciate the help Ryan. Started carving about a year ago and saw your videos. Only have a few cheap start up tools and ready to move to the next level. This helps alot.
Bro. Speaking of templates and iPad. Can you Maybe do a video of your typical set up when you are using those programs. Or show us some of ur template process. I've never used that kind of tech. Cheers mate
Dear Ryan, I cannot agree more with you about Makita tools. You pay a little more but in the long term they deliver consistently and reliably unlike cheaper knock-offs. I firstly tried using air die-grinders at the cheaper end of town and they were hopeless. They do make quality brand name air die grinders like Shinano but my budget didn’t stretch that far. I’d love to be able to take one for a spin.
Hi, ive noticed that you have used this thing that was long and floppy. You used on a little bear for this gentlemen who did a ceremony for you. I’ve been trying to find it. I don’t know what it is called. I would really appreciate it. Thank you for all of your awesome videos. I’ve learned a lot !
Hi Ryan hope all's well with you and the family, love your videos your wealth of knowledge and experience are second to none, thank you for sharing it, I'm in the UK and a beginner, is it hard to get sponsorship and could you kindly point us in the right direction regarding pointers on how to go about it, maybe even as a tool reviewer would be a good way of getting a foot in the door. I'd really appreciate your input on this, also could you post a link for carving templates. Much appreciated me auld mucker.
Thank you so much for sharing your incredible knowledge of all of these tools.... just ordered my iwata airbrush kit and can’t wait to use it... not sure if you do a video on how to use it but that would be awesome.... thanks buddy for all of your help and inspiration!!
I seen you Makita finger sander & i priced it,if it is over budget for some of your viewers,i use the Black & Decker Finger Sander & it is a Awesome piece of Kit & the price was right for me. I liked your Videos,i use a Spier & Jackson Chainsaw for making owls & it works, but going with the Brand & price of the ones you use. I believe i will buy a Couple. Thanks Again. Very Informative. Scotland the Brave!
Ryan, I am SO GREATFUL for your videos. I have only been carving for a little over one year. As I told you before, I was first inspired by Mark Colp. But my learning, and progress, come from carvers like you, THANK YOU SO MUCH! I do use Stihl, but really would like to get the small echo set up you have. I will look in your description, in Hope's you have left links, to follow for purchase. I have followed you, since your very beginning days on saw dogs. Thanks for staying with sharing your art! ❤
Hi Ryan , love your work !!! Switching from carving Loons and decoys to Chainsaw carving. Always wanted to try this so Looking forward to giving this a shot !!!
Thanks for sharing your workshop. I am looking forward to have so many tools as you. Unfortunately I live in other country(Mexico) and prices are really high from here(taxes and shipping) and some of them really difficult to order to my country like manpa tools and canon carving bars and 1/4" pitch chain for chainsaw, but I have the basic tool and chiansaws for carving. Keep your good work bro and inspire more people with your art!
Hi Ryan you have come a long way,I love you carvings I carve mantels and such but want to really get more into saw carving. Would love to check you out someday for a clinic. Keep up the good work, and great information btw
Hello Ryan I love the new show I have not bought a chain saw but after Watching it I think I might give it a go any suggestions for a newbie, thanks alot
Great video. just getting started carving. so far I've made two owls, six bears ranging from 2 foot tall to 4 foot tall and a four foot eagle that Im very proud of, got some great tips from you. wondering about the 1/4 pitch chain you use and where you get it. is the chain you use .050 gage and are there different cutter types for 1/4 pitch chain?
I love your videos I watch them.over and over and one tool suggestion u mite want to check out flexible drum sander for a drill works great on round parts
Thanks so much for the information Ryan!! Just started carving a few months ago and so far it’s going fairly well. Learning a lot from your videos and your tips along the way! Curious if you have any information on eyeball bits or if you make your own as I know some people do? Thanks again and keep up the amazing work!!
Good to see you get going on your channel. Will you do videos showing how you use each of the tools, that would be helpful. Especially the different bits. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the video man. Wondering. I have a husqy 445. Plan on buying a Cannon quarter tip. Debating buying one of those proxxon msg. If you were just starting out. Had a husqy 445. What else would you buy. Spending as little as possible. I have a few Grinder and a dremmel already. Looking at maybe getting a little makita electric saw.
Ryan Cook Carves hmm I know you don’t use one they just seem popular. I was wondering if you have any tip videos on just basic do’s and donts. Preferably the donts. With carving bars and without. Cheers man.
king auther is the absoulte worst tool ever if its the saw on grinder if you have one of them throw it in the ocean and never think twice .. other ones are great an i have and love .. but i know to many carvers who have been hurt
Hey Ryan...Please answer this question for me. Many carvers talk about using LoPro 3/8" chain on large blocking saws. At 3:24 you use 3/8 LoPro on a CS620 with a 28" bar. All the research I have done only rates 3/8 lopro chain up to a 42cc saw. The CS620 is a 59CC saw. Am I missing something? Is there LoPro chain that is rated for a large powerhead and a 28" bar? If so I can't find it anywhere. Thanks in advance!
Hey brother! Killer intel on this video! Sure appreciate it. Wondering what grit you use for your Norton Sand-O-Flex? Getting ready to buy mine and was just wondering. Thanks so much! 🙂
I like old Homelite saws because I think they are cool but definitely heavy. Funny thing is the only working saw in my possession is an xl-101 Homelite. On the side it says "the lightest saw in the famous xl series". I have never done carving art before but I like running a saw a lot. Maybe art is an excuse to fire one up regardless if its an older saw. It has an 18'' bar and no chain brake or guard. manual oiler and leaks fuel. Any suggestions before I carve?
everyone likes certain things .. Id just say cut safe and when u can upgrade to a proper safe carving saw that would be the best idea or one that is safe. cut safe dude cheers
Hey Ryan great video. Good for everybody that you share and show us you working place. I like Manpa tools also Echo chainsaws. What about PPE? Do you have a fauvorite? Im using SIP protection trousers.
I just started carving and I have discovered Kutzall burrs for the Dremel. Just wondering if you have used them or not? I am planning to watch your channel a lot I like how you carve. Thanks for all the information you give freely.
I do use the Kutzal burrs on a dremel 4300 with a flex shaft. The burrs are fine, dremel is not my “dream team tool” but I’m paying for everything I use.
I dont use them as for me they dont have good control. but i have seen guys who use them and make great carvings so its really about preference .. but for me the rear handle is like my joy stick and i use that for control best
Hi Ryan I have an echo 310 30.5cc motor, I was looking a a dime tip carving bar. I used their bar finder to find out what bar will work. I have a question I hope you can help with. They mention maybe having to change the drive sprocket. How would I know if I have to do this.
that is something i will share in the lessons i do in the fall. Im gonna do classes in the fall. but as for just sharing it as of right now i am a bit hesitant to do that as it has taken me and chris foltz many years to perfect it an-really its chris's information and i wouldnt be to comforatble sharing it public/ but for you i use a projector and a profile view then project it on to log or paper // ;) hope that helps

When you say you use your I-pad for templating do you download pre designed templates or do you have to make the templates yourself?
What earbuds do you use? You mentioned them in one of your videos but I can't find where without going through them all again 😄
