Okay, it's been a few days since I have installed skse for the first time and yesterday I started having CTD's (Crash To Desktop) at the first load screen. After I have tried everything I thought it might have something to do with skse, so I came back here and I'm seeing several comments from the past few days from others who are appearently having the same problem. Soooooooooo, what I did is I reinstalled skse (followed Gophers instructions again) and for some reason Skyrim works again. I dunno, maybe this works for others too. I hope it does, because it's really frustrating.

I dont know what I would have done without your help. My Skyrim crashed out of the blue and I had to re-install everything from scratch and without this video I could not have got it up and running (the way I like) again. Thank you so much!
I have downloaded this before but I had to again when my computer crashed and I had to refresh it. I followed your instructions word for word, but at the end of the installation I got an error that said "Couldn't find TESV.exe". I uninstalled SKSE and deleted all the files and re-installed it, yet got the same message. I looked it up in the steam forums an many people got the error "Couldn't find TES_.exe" which is different from mine. I can't seem to find a solution because I have installed this mod before and I never received this error. Any help or advice would be much appreciated!
I actually was able to find a solution in case any one else is having the same issue. The target destination in the shortcut wasn't leading to the skyrim folder in my case. To fix that you just right click the shortcut and go to properties, in the shortcut menu right beside where it says target, there is a box of text that should say "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Skyrim\skse_loader.exe" (including the "), if it says something different, just copy and paste that into the box and it should work. Hope that helps for anyone having any issues with SKSE.
I had a message too saying I was ''using a newer version of Skyrim than this version oF SKSE support''. Sad I wanted to install the Immersive Horse mod but I can't now
Gopher, I want to thank you for helping me take my "playing" to the next level. It helped me understand SKSE Install etc. But, now I would like to learn to mod. I can write dialogue and branch them, set up conditionals on player and target, etc. But, setting up even the most basic script is beyond me. I do not have creation kit set up properly. There is so much stuff out there that I assume is outdated and I think trying them is damaging my sanity, if not my system. Is there a good tutorial you would recommend? When I cannot get GetOwningQuest().SetObjectiveDisplayed(10) GetOwningQuest().SetStage(10) to compile, I know it is not the code itself, it is a setup problem, but what would seem to be a simple fix seems to be hidden deeper than a medieval alchemist guild.

skyrim is eternal :3
This is the first video I watched in my modding journey.
I'm now 2 months in, came back to this, to make sure I missed anything at all... and bring back the memory.
2 freaking months man. You know damn well that's an eternity when you're modding LMAO.
I now have my computer running optimally, I've purchased a bunch of other bits and pieces to improve my experiences on PC... all because of modding.
It teaches you the language. Thank you much for your efforts.
CHeers!
"couldnt find skyrimvr.exe"
when try to open the game from the skse file, it drops this message
I "fixed" it and it's super easy lol.
-Open the ZIP file of the newest SKSE. Go to the Data folder and open the Scripts folder in it. Mark/copy all of the .pex files.
-Open the Data folder in your Skyrim SE directory. Then open the Scripts folder.
-Drop all the .pex files into that folder.
I think this video need to be updated; I don't see anything on this video that's on the window of the launcher window links now.
just download the 7z archive on the website, move it to your desktop and its the exact same
Yeah, I got it. Thank you.
IM SO HAPPY RN. about a year ago i messed up n just started modding skyrim n didnt know wat i was doing but found this vid but got angry and confused. after i watched the basics series im not confused as much. THANKS GOPHER U JUST GOT A NEW SUB
what if i cant find either TESV or TESV.exe?
you don't have skyrim installed as that's the game exe
@@alsanderandciaran i am having the same problem but i have the game installed bc i can play it and everything
@@yogie6513 the TESV.exe is the game launcher, if you don't have it then you may have moved it or skyrim isn't installed
@@alsanderandciaran I have the same issue. I look in skyrim SE's file directory and the closest thing I can find is "SkyrimSELauncher". The game is installed- I can play it whenever, I just cant find the TESV file
Yeah, I can't find it either...
There is now an installer which means you don't have to know any of the stuff in this video, though if you like to know how stuff works, this is a nice one.. ;)
Everyone told me that modding games would be amazing. They never told me it would be so much damn work.
It's worth it.
Mine keeps saying can't find Skyrim.exe but it's literally right beside it in the Skyrim file.
Everyone who is having troubles, there is and installer on the page if you don't want to do it manually. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! . : )
Where
on the SKSE download page
I don't know man I just clicked on the installer button and it worked. sorry, The installer of the regular version not alpha version. If you click the installer for the alpha version it might not work.
Any updates from SilverLock on when "Current SE build 2.0.10" will be updated to accommodate the SE update that Bethesda pushed out yesterday (December 5 2018?)
9 years later and still the most help... thanks again!
You guys don't have to do it manually anymore, you can download the installer
Thanks man, it was so easy.
:) turns minutes into seconds!
What installer?
thejellyfish206 on the SKSE website, there's a installer version.
I recommend against it. But opinions are divided :)
One flaw: I have the Special Edition...
@Ian Trinidad You do for SkyUI.
There actaully is a version of Skyrim SE on the website, it is installed the exact same way as SKSE for Oldrim. :)
@@lynarisevershadeshadowfall1684I've tried running SkyUi and it kept saying that skse wasn't installed correctly, but whenever I open up my inventory, it just works fine. Though I still feel like I'm at a loss with this type of stuff since modding isn't my thing.
@@dustinstoddart8813 I did two days ago yeah, friend helped me out with the specifics
@@Germanstormer99 you must have did something worng then i just did this and it worked just fine for skyrim special
Man i love you so much but I CANNOT watch any of your tutorials on anything less than 1.75x speed. Not a criticism tho hahaha, you do you
Is there a difference between the SKSE classic version and the SKSE64 version for SE?
I made an updated video for that. Search my channel for SKSE64 :)
Couldn't get past the first step. i downloaded the 7z archive to my desktop but it never gave me the option to extract. this is what I get for trying to switch from nmm to mod organizer 2 for classic skyrim...
Use This

or
www.win-rar.com/start.html?&L=16
What would you recommend doing with Skyrim Special Edition? There is no TESV.exe/TESV file in it, i did download the SKSE special edition version, im guessing you have to do what you've shown in the video?
Watch the SKSE64: Beginners Guide from Gopher... Short Version... SSE uses SkyrimSE.exe not TESV.exe
@@JEilonwyn thank you, i was so confused because i couldn't find the TESV file
I love the fact that you still reply to comments even after 5+ years (and sometimes while being on holidays), thanks Gopher :)
You take about twice as long to say anything as it should because you are fascinated with the sound of your own voice.
Pardon me, sir, do you have a couple hours to talk about hidden file extensions?
I do all what you say but when I open "skse_loader.exe" it says «Could'nt find TESV.exe»
Live Life
Ok thanks I'll try that!
F Normand I got the same issue did you solve it?
John van Ahlers
Yep!
Awesome! I went and searched for my skyrim folder again and couldnt find it. How did you do it?
/Steam /SteamApps /Commons /Skyrim
You should put the SKSE loader in the skyrim folder
FANTASTIC Video!! After 5 installs I saw your video on SKSE and got it working in MO2. How did I miss your video, my God your a God sent. Thank you, Thumbs Up!
Im running Skyrim Special Edition, and I dont have any TESV.exe..... Please Help!
you installed the wrong version of skse thats the classic version you got. but today i tried reinstalling the se version but it said the version is outdated so will have to wait for new one i guess
hey gopher plz help, i have special edition Skyrim and when i run skse it says couldn find TESV.exe how can i make it up so it can work with the special edition?
Did you managed to fix that?
@@LovecraftsCatName I also need help
@@shreshstoke TESV for special edition will just be skyrimSE.exe just input that into what hes explaining and youll get it
checking in 2024 after the paid creations nonsense, still works perfectly 👌
8 years later, and this is still the most useful video on modding I have ever watched.
ITS SAYS SKSE SCRIPTS CANT BE ADDED
Hi, I currently have the same problem. Have you found a solution to this?
SAME WTF
Have you tryed oppening NMM as adm?
When you archive it save it in 7zip format, had the same problems but trying this worked.
Keeps causing my game to launch on startup....
it is showing "cant find SkyrimSE.exe" when running the skse loader shortcut...pls help
I'm getting the same thing.
I dont know what I would have done without your help. My Skyrim crashed out of the blue and I had to re-install everything from scratch and without this video I could not have got it up and running (the way I like) again. Thank you so much!
Instructions to completed, mouse stuck in Ear.
Eden N Thank you!!!
Eden N Thank you so much !!!
Eden N I love you!!!
Eden N Thank you very much
When i try to open the SKSE jump a mesage and say couldt find skyrimse.exe, what i do?
I had a message too saying I was ''using a newer version of Skyrim than this version oF SKSE support''. Sad I wanted to install the Immersive Horse mod but I can't now
It doesn't matter how many times I've installed or updated SKSE, I just have to watch this video every time I do it so I get it right!
When I cannot get
GetOwningQuest().SetObjectiveDisplayed(10)
GetOwningQuest().SetStage(10)
to compile, I know it is not the code itself, it is a setup problem, but what would seem to be a simple fix seems to be hidden deeper than a medieval alchemist guild.
I did everything you said and it will not run. It simply says couldn't find Tesv.exe
So it does not work anymore. It also says i edited it's ini file when I don't know where it is or what it is.
Same here. I tried to find something online with absolutely no luck. I thought I was the only one.
so this sucks for both of us
Do it from NMM
Change the .exe file that your normally open the game with to Tesv.exe, then the loader should work fine ^.^
So, the first 8 minutes of the vid are irrelevant?
Orbinator 2687 No. In fact they are probably the most important minutes in the video for the audience this video was aimed at.
Gopher Hey nice video
Gopher
Yeah I just realized that; thank you a lot for making these vids as Skyrim is so much better modded. I don't know how I played on console xD.
Just under 10 years later. This video is still helpful as hell! Thank you!
Can I also install other mods like Pinup Poser by using the mod manager like you did with skse?
Actually.. yes you can, dear former me :)
MilkBreakMinecraft How far present-you has come! ^_^
Reesha Hey, I'm the present me here! Don't listen to him!
When I launch skse loader the game crashes after the bethesda logo. Help pls
+Nefostatros I'm sorry to hear you're having one of the problems I did with SKSE. I did follow the instructions but it messed up my game and I am currently sitting here waiting for a fresh installation of Skyrim to download :( It's the only way I could be SURE I got rid of every single SKSE file so it'll stop wrecking my game!
Darvit Anati Well it turned out that I'm an ass... I was downloading via Steam the official hi-res texture pack and forgot about it.
Anyway I spent 2 days modding, I think I crafted a good list of mods that won't conflict but then I uninstalled everything.
#LOL
+Nefostatros Hey, at least yours managed to actually load...
Did you sort this at all? I'm having the same problem
