A friend of mine listened to Motorpsycho back in our high school days and he lent me their new album (at that time) Blissard (1996). I’ve been a psychonaut since that and it’s been a journey. I’ve spent more than half my life on this journey and it’s mostly been a joy, although I still miss Gebhardt. I’ve been to numerous concerts and they’re even better live - really should be on your bucket-list!
Bloody hell. Didn't know you already did some Motorpsycho here. And this track as a start - wow! One of my recent most favourite bands. Briliant, indeed. Motorpsycho have been reinventing themselves and branching out consistently since the 1990s, from noisy alt-rock, to melodious, 1960s inspired indie rock, to psychedelic neo space-rock and prog that does not shy away from turning into stoner metal occasionally.
Motorpsycho have been one of those names that I've seen bandied about for years and thought "yeah, I should check them out at some point" but never actually followed up on it. Watching you wax lyrical about this album just now on your "modern prog classics" video, and seeing that awesome cover art, I decided there was no time like the present. So here I am, absolutely kicking myself for not checking them out sooner. Just incredible stuff. I can't wait to spin the whole album in full.
Hey this is so cool Jim I literally put this Motorpysycho album and another in my wish list yesterday👍👍👍....came up randomly on my feed....that algorithm knows me better than I do!😎....glad you like it to
More Motorpsycho! ‘The Tower’ is an incredible record, but also ‘The Death Defying Unicorn’ as a side project. ‘In Every Dream Home (There’s A Dream of Something Else)’ is probably my favorite track of all. But there’s a lot!
I love it when a track has a long intro. Unlike pop or radio music that goes straight into the 3 minute song, long intros have time to build an atmosphere and mood, letting you know youre in for a sonic journey. Music of this type is meant to be listened to not just heard.
Tuuuuuuuuuuuuune✨💫🌟✨⭐🌟💫🌄.....I agree the building is lovely....prog is great when it takes jazz, rock, metal, classical and blues and creates explorative textures without going overboard into self gratification (the jazz vortex where no one knows where it's going and disappointed by end). Get the exact opposite here. The build is fabulous.🧐🤠👍
I've listen to Motorpsycho a while ago and they are a intriguing band. Valid prog rock with their unique sound. Me like! But one word, a name of a band, Karfagen! They've kept in a hold for a couple of weeks now. Oh, and a headphone recommendation! All you need is... Beyerdynamic DT 250.
15:59 I trust your taste in music, Jim. When you say something's good, I patiently listen to it. That's why I usually visit your channel when I'm absolutely in the mood for new music.
I like a bit of Motorpsycho. Their music isn't very immediate and takes quite a bit of listening to appreciate, but persevere and it's definately worth it. Think i'm going to go and play the full album now 👍
I fell into the Motorpsycho black hole via hearing the amazing album 'The Death Defying Unicorn' and now own so many albums by them that I've genuinely lost count!
Ok it's now promoted to my check out...I enjoyed my scan through yesterday too....cool band💸💸💸....Def lots of Yes in there too....Philip Glass...Penguin Cafe orchestra a bit. Love em all.
Yes lots of great films coming out of Scandinavia too not just music....loved Border for example in recent times.....trolls do exist! And I don't mean social media ones....🧐....the Nordic renaissance is still in full flow....
Really glad to see this one pop up, thanks Jim! Been listening to Motorpsycho since they did a collab with Jaga Jazzist years ago and the band I was in at the time sort of covered their cover of Theme De Yoyo. I only own a couple of their albums and most of their material is missing from Spotify so this one's new on me. Great looking vinyl too 👌
@@JimNewstead Ah ok, thanks for the heads up. After digging around Spotify it looks like the album isn't linked to their official discography. I've found it now, only it's missing "N.O.X. IV: Night of Pan". It's also available for streaming on Amazon Music with Prime. I'd love to have the vinyl, maybe a treat once I get back to work (I'm in the UK and supply beer to pubs so it's been a tight year). 👍 EDIT: Also, If it hasn't been done already I'd like to see a vinyl by one of these bands with a track titled "Ouroboros" with the snake eating its tail circling the spindle.
I really like this band. Great choice doing N.O.X. A suggestion....Can you turn up the turntable volume a bit next time? Great video nonetheless. Cheers! 🍻
@@JimNewstead right on, extensive catalog im sure you've already checked out some. Recieved "here be monsters" on vinyl for Christmas. Blissard and Trust Us is what got me started.
@@murdockreviews I've enjoyed it so far, but it seems to me is the weakest of the Jarmyr albums. Nothing really new, but the've been doing great stuff since forever, so that's not bad either.
@@richardthresh3587 Absolutely. With Motorpsycho the rule really holds trze most of the time: their best album is always the latest one, until the next one is released.
Check them out at Progarchives. Really highly rated albums are Hybris and Viljans Öga by Änglagård and Drop of Light by All Traps on Earth. All within top 100 albums of all time in the user ratings. (There's only one more studio album made by Änglagård...)
@@JimNewstead Oh yes, band is from Norway. Its the smorgasbord I have learned is a Danish invention. Checking it now, Wikipedia does say its Swedish. Oh well, not only obscure, also wrong. I am pretty sure it was presented as a Danish thing in Denmark :-). Track was very interesting.
So cool to see Motorpsycho getting some love. One of the finest prog bands of the last twenty years that somehow nobody has heard of. Well played!
Fantastic band. Been a fan since the mid '90s.
Same, Blizzard started me off, seen them a few times too. Great band.

Amazing band, amazing record. Hoping for more Motorpsycho reactions.

Yup, I mentioned on another comment, music that isn't immediate, needs time to evolve and to be unwrapped is just the best!
From Norway, love Motorpsycho.

I think they’re lost count themselves of how many albums they’ve released. Prolific is an understatement!
you're like me at the 18:00 mark. What a moment! Gets me every time.
Motorpsycho!!! HELLZ yeah!!!
Its their drummers! That's doing it for me. i like the way their music shifts. True psychonauts. They evolve so naturally. So much to discover.

Whoa... October you say? Been sitting on this gem for too long then!
Interesting. You are probably the very first on within 15 years I see who also knows Motorpsycho. :-D
BTW saw them live last Wednesday and they finished the official set by playing the N.O.X Suite in its entirety 🤯

Yes, great band. 👍
This album The All Is One is about the best rock album of the 21st century!
It's an absolute gem of a record.
What a great track
My brother came back from a trip to Norway back in 1999 and brought me a Motorpsycho mix cd, been a huge fan ever since.

The violinist heard in the NOX Suite, Ola Kvernberg, has a band of his own, called Steamdome. I would love to hear your reactions to their album.

They’re AKG K701 reference headphones. Blooming brilliant, but sadly I think they’re dying after 5 years and countless thousands of hours of work.

If you like Scandinavian stuff I guess you're all into Änglagård and All Traps on Earth already? Those are about as good as can get!
