Any 'real cyclist' who hates ebikes are just bike snobs. There is nothing wrong with having assistance especially if you're using it as a mode of transportation. I work two miles from my house and I use my e-bike to get there and back home. Last thing I want is to be all hot and sweaty when I get to work or be exhausted when I get home.

I love my Ranger S version with the 750watt as compared to 500watt. I must admit at 70 years of age, needed the step-thru. My original purchase was HeyBike and WOW was so impressed with how wonderful it was built. Could not throw my leg over it and take off safely, so now I have 2-HeyBikes and love them both. And lastly, the 750 watt version carries my 240lbs close to 30mph.

Thanks for your thoughts and insight! It gives me a better idea of what to do so I don't unnecessarily wear it down sooner rather than later.

You are living the dream with that adorable family. As for the bike…I’m sold. I had an electric motorcycle and it was so heavy. I could barely get one tire off the ground. It was super fast though, it went approximately 95km/h (approximately 60m/h). Anyways, I sold it and looking for either a bike or scooter and I think this bike fills BOTH bike and scooter feeling in it.
I feel like New York would be the perfect place for an electric bike! The main problem with these bikes though is that they're thief magnets! I'm hearing a ton of people tell me about getting them stolen. Would be cool to see some thief proof lock!
@@DavidManningvlog 😅 i won't say "thief-proof", but maybe if they had a tracking service like some of the bikes in the same price range, or as a feature that would prevent them from moving the tires. but yeah, everything will be stolen over here
Hey, thank you SO much for this. Seriously! Awesome! I do have a question. I am going to be using this as my full-time commute. Can this be ridden in the rain? Or will the battery, or any other part, bust up because of that? That is my only really concern about this--OH! And also, what channels do you recommend for how to maintain this bike? You can change the freewheeler sprocket to one with less teeth. Most of these bikes have 14-34. Change it to 11-32 and you'll have more resistance when you pedal in 7th gear.
Would it not be far easier to just change out the front chain sprocket for one that is say 2 or 3 tooth bigger? You would also not have to have a special tool to remove the freewheel assembly by changing the front sprocket.
Ur gonna love it! I have the white one and the only thing I didnt like was the seat so, I bought one that had more cushioning and it made a big difference. Good luck with your bike!!

We have his and hers and think the bikes are great. The step through is a must for older people and the only con is the running out of peddle. 7 should be the low gear and go up from there but I guess that would eliminate the use of 0 peddle assist. Wonder if you could change the front sprocket as I never use 0

I have the exact bike and only paid $999.00 on Amazon. I dont understand the pedal asst. level thing but ive had it up to 25 mph on a sraight smooth road. The bike rides super smooth but if its windy, it gets a little sketchy. I replaced the seat with a more padded one and it makes a nice differance. I recommend this bike 100% because its very well built but I wouldnt have paid $1399.00 like this guy did.
I have the heybike mars for the pedal assist gear I keep it on 2 all the time because it feels a comfortable speed 15.5mph for pedaling like a normal bike and the 1-7 speed gear I keep it on 7 for flat riding and doesn't pedal that hard and I lower it for uphill!
Heybike, not bad, plus it is foldable. I don't like ebikes that confuses a cop. Check out the Amp Rides 750w 90nm ebike. It's $1900 but it can be unlocked to 33mph and it is foldable. Good video 👍
Being you asked, I would love to get your opinion of the 2023 Lyriq. I have an XT6 and my wife really wants to get the Lyriq and I trust you more than most UA-camrs.
You said you go to the store to buy things. I would be worried about someone stealing the bike. What precautions do you take when you leave it outside to prevent someone from stealing it? John from MI
I totally agree. No way I would park this outside the store, especially with the battery operated grinders now that thieves can carry. They will cut through anything in no time.
@@SkuttleBug1974 Yup. My wife had the Catalytic converter cut off her minivan while she was at work. Came out and it sounded like it had open headers on it. Of course, we had to pay the deductible on the insurance.
Thank you for the review. Still undecided what to get for my motorhome. What I really want is a scooter like the Byrd. We rented them in D.C. and that was the best way to get around and see the sites in less time than walking driving or public transportation. Trying to find a scooter with the distance needed to go touring all the sites is the problem. The bike you just reviewed would be perfect. However it would take up a lot of luggage space in the motorhome. But it's a thought. Great video.
Do you have any space on the back of your motorhome to install a bike rack? That would allow you to transport the bikes to wherever you are going without having to take up any space inside of your motorhome.
Nice dude…..I’ve been looking at them for some time now but their prices always steered me away. This one is way more reasonable than the ones I’ve seen. Now, the one thing my daughter and I really want is one of those all terrain electric skateboards….that 💩 seems fun 🤣😎

Hi love the review, we have Montage full size folding bikes, as older riders I would love the hey bike, can I ask where would you say is the best place to sell the Montage bikes? We have a holiday home in Florida but are from the UK and not that sure where we will get the best price for our bikes
Not really! I have this bike and im 5.8 200 lbs and on a windy day it gets sketchy to handle. It weighs about 70lbs so maybe you should look for a lighter bike

I will still use my trusty traditional road bike for those times that l want a truly challenging work-out on some scenic (and/or "hilly") roads here in Maine.... but you can't beat this Ranger for doing errands around town, and a refreshing longer rides in nature for relaxing. In my world: l am loving having BOTH types of bikes.... and the two types of riding complement each other beautifully. At this point: l would not want to be without both of these types of bikes.... they BOTH make me SMILE !!! .
What are your thoughts on the Velowave Prado S vs. Heybike Ranger. The Prado S is non-foldable for a stiffer frame. How is the rigidity of the Ranger frame? They have plus and minuses.
I use an ebike because I have a few disabilities, they are a big help to me, and allows me to live my life with independence, if I wasn't disabled, then I would go back to using a ordinary pedal bike,😊
All the licensing stuff depends on what state you're in, but in CA you just have to be 16 years old and wear a helmet for a Class 3👍You're also not supposed to ride on bike path trails. Bike lane on the street, you're good to go!
@@DavidManningvlog hmm so if I have a drivers license in canada I can ride this with a helmet... interesting. and its pretty affordable I can't wait for more of this series! thanks David
Has anyone else noticed that it has a delay on the pedal assist? In other words, I start pedaling and I have to pedal 2-3 rotations before it kicks in. I have ridden a different brand of ebike where the pedal assist is every rotation of the pedal. The pedal assist also seems to power down after I have applied the brakes and start to pedal again or when I'm going around a corner. This makes it weird when I am expecting the pedal assist and then all of the sudden it is not there. Again, it takes 2-3 rotations before it starts back up. I also noticed that if I stop completely and take my feet off the pedals, the pedal assist automatically drops down to zero (0) and I have to manually raise it again. It usually happens when I stop at a traffic light, and then it is all of the sudden really hard when I try to go again. This is problematic because when I am stopped at a traffic light and the light turns green, I want to get through the intersection as quickly as possible. Plus, when it is on zero pedal assist, I cannot use the throttle at all to help get through the intersection. I ask about these concerns because I am worried that this is not normal for this ebike and I need to send the bike back. Like I said, I have ridden a different ebike and it doesn't have those quirky things about the pedal assist. Otherwise, I really love this ebike.
The brakes will disengage the motor. You can adjust the sensitivity although I'm not sure how much it will help with how fast it recognizes the pedaling prior to engaging.
I wanted bagi bike. Its like Ranger but in a pro version. But it cost more. So I when with Ranger and I am very happy. Also there is hyper Scorpion, but that is other story...
Mr David Manning, I have watched oodles of bike videos & You Tube Pitch men, You sir are doing a fine job, not a bunch of Hyperbole Or Antics ,Very Cool Vibe Youngman, Yes I will subscribe, which is rare for me. In closing one quick question, I have a sweet Bintelli E-Bike which I 'Loved" but it is not a step through and mounting & dismounting is a drag, so Im going to a step through, I am on the fence between a Hey Bike Ranger Z& a Lectric step through....( coin Flip)?
Definitely going to matter what you're planning on doing with your bike. I have a Ranger and love it because of its versatility. With the Lectric step through 2.0, it looks like you're going to be stuck with an internal battery, meaning charging is going to be a lot more cumbersome. With the ranger, you can take the battery out and charge it wherever you want with the included charger. This allows for much more flexibility as you don't have to bring the entire bike to the charger. The Ranger is heavier than the Lectric so you do have to consider that if you plan on lifting the bike a lot. Regardless, both bikes seem really good. From my experience with the Ranger, it's a great bike with a few minor problems. The biggest problem I had with mine was the mechanical brakes, but it seems to be a complaint with a lot of e-bikes. Mechanical brakes on a powerful e-bike such as the ranger and the lectric seem to become problematic over time so a suggestion would be to either switch them out to hydraulic or, as I did, to a hybrid brake system so not to lose the electrical kill switch that's part of the brake system.
@@carynspohn9891 Well I'd say buy the Hey Bike stepthru. I bought the Lectric bike stepthru, due to the deal $995 vs Hey Bike $1359, the lectric bike key mounted underneath, plus battery removal are both, negative design flaws, Splurge Get the Heybike

I want to see the one wheels compared. Not sure if I should get a one wheel pint x or an older Xr or even older pint
After watching your video I ordered a new Heybike Ranger. Is changing the assist mode to seven easy to do? Thanks.
it is as simple as pressing a few buttons
Excellent review…i am sold. Gonna get two for me and the wife
Good review. Where are you testing this bike? This city is beautiful!
Being you asked, I would love to get your opinion of the 2023 Lyriq. I have an XT6 and my wife really wants to get the Lyriq and I trust you more than most UA-camrs.
Great Video. Thanks for all the information. Could you list the manufactor/model of the helmet you are using in this video? Much appreciated.
Awesome bike. Love it. I want one. What’s the charging situation look like?
Do you have to leave the key in the battery to ride the bike?
Yes
The Heybike Ranger does indeed have a Shimano 7-speed shifter. At 13:00 minutes, you said they are not like your high-end Shimano shifter.
Correct, it's the low end version of Shimano's shifters. Entry level gear
I am A BIGGER FELLER! so this is for me!!!😂😂😂😂😂❤
this is perfect for truck drivers.
13:00 but dude, the shifter on the Heybike Ranger is a Shimano 7-Speed :)
Oh totally Ruben! It's a solid setup, just more of the basic stuff as opposed to some of Shimano's higher end offers. Again though, super solid!
Check out Kryptonite brand locks, they have guarantees on several higher end locks. I got one for my Lectric
@@rond3026 Thanks
Lock it and take battery with you.
Very cool! I love it.
2 uploads from you in one day, I simply press play and watch!
As for the title for your electric series.. "ev rides unplugged" 🤔😊
electric = plugged.
So unlocked, 22mph the top speed on a flat with throttle only? Is that the general consensus?
That's about right on throttle only, but I regularly see 26mph on the HeyBike with some very easy pedaling👍
How does the heybike ranger compare to the vituvia?
super coool!! Thanks for the review!!!
How did you change Pedal Assist to 1 - 7 ?
Check for the user manual online. I think you hold + and - at the same time to get into the settings menu, but I can't remember for sure

Any chance you could tell me the dimensions of the battery?
Nice dude…..I’ve been looking at them for some time now but their prices always steered me away. This one is way more reasonable than the ones I’ve seen.
Now, the one thing my daughter and I really want is one of those all terrain electric skateboards….that 💩 seems fun 🤣😎
Fun, but can also wreck you! I've been trying to film with a certain all-terrain electric skateboard recently, but I keep falling down and wrecking myself🤣
I love bikes ❤️
Me too Graham! And man, once you add in some power, they just get so dang good!
I have one and love it
Want one !
Dude that bike it’s alive seriously YOU SHOULD return it to the store
Ok maybe a silly question but does the brake disengage the throttle? Or do you have to stop the throttle before braking?
Yes brake does disengage throttle, tested this recently.
The brakes have an electrical kill switch built into them so when you apply the brakes, the motor stops running.
Call the page either Rolling Rolling Rolling or Electric Avenue
Hi, great video!! If possible can you make a video review of the bike we just purchased? The Narrak 48V 750W13AH 20" x4.0 Step-Over/Step-Thru Folding Fat Tire E-Bike Mountain Electric Bicycle Beach Cruiser; it must be very similar to the Ranger or Explorer. Thanks 😊
Hi love the review, we have Montage full size folding bikes, as older riders I would love the hey bike, can I ask where would you say is the best place to sell the Montage bikes? We have a holiday home in Florida but are from the UK and not that sure where we will get the best price for our bikes
Would you recommend this bike for a rider that is 5'4?
Not really! I have this bike and im 5.8 200 lbs and on a windy day it gets sketchy to handle. It weighs about 70lbs so maybe you should look for a lighter bike
They are great bikes.I bought 21 for the wife one for myself. My battery is still fine, but her battery only lasted 500 miles and it only goes to one charge. They don't have very good customer service.Because you can't even buy a battery right now. not in stock anywhere
Does the battery have a USB so you can use it to charge other devices?
Yes it does.
@ 4:15 ... plz don't blow through STOP signs... just sayin'... on behalf of ALL of us. That's how cyclists get bad reputations with other drivers.
@4:40... eh...there it is again. :-/
Leaving this video.
[EDIT:] OK...I ADMIT that now that l am using my new Ranger more around town; l am cautiously rolling STOP SIGNS just like everyone else... feeling guilty... and thinking l might need one of those "BE A BETTER HUMAN" shirts!!! 😏
ADDENDA: l am a fairly new owner of this E-Bike (HeyBike RANGER).... AND
I've been an endurance/long-distance distance/bikathons/some off-road cyclist/fairly serious fitness cyclist for decades.
Both the Heybike Mars and Ranger have a stiff frame when they are locked into place. There is no sloppiness at all.
Hi Dave 🙋
Hi Abhijeet👋
Can a child’s seat be mounted on the back?
They don't have one that they specifically make, but I'm pretty sure that a Thule or one of those would fit on there. Not confirmed though
Does it recharge the battery while pedaling? or plug in charge only?
The Heybikes do not have regen abilities.
I use an ebike because I have a few disabilities, they are a big help to me, and allows me to live my life with independence, if I wasn't disabled, then I would go back to using a ordinary pedal bike,😊
Do I need a license for this beast
All the licensing stuff depends on what state you're in, but in CA you just have to be 16 years old and wear a helmet for a Class 3👍You're also not supposed to ride on bike path trails. Bike lane on the street, you're good to go!
@@DavidManningvlog hmm so if I have a drivers license in canada I can ride this with a helmet... interesting. and its pretty affordable I can't wait for more of this series! thanks David
@@DavidManningvlog ohhh so I can't ride it like a regular bike, its more like a vespa ? interesting...
@@LouisLuzuka I don't know about Canada but here in California I ride it like a regular bike. I go on streets and sidewalks.
Nope
Check out the brand Lectric ebike and how they compare
You talked about changing your pedal assist. Please share in email "How did you change your pedal assist?"
ua-cam.com/video/TgI1Oxshz_c/v-deo.html
Was this a free bike from Heybike for a review?
@@dashkatae ty sir for the fine details & insight. Bless your thorough explanation
@@dashkatae Lectric step battery does come out. It is a little harder tho.
I am at the same decision place as you.
@@carynspohn9891
Well I'd say buy the Hey Bike stepthru. I bought the Lectric bike stepthru, due to the deal $995 vs Hey Bike $1359, the lectric bike key mounted underneath, plus battery removal are both, negative design flaws, Splurge Get the Heybike
