    I noticed the words " side bend ". The Jack Nicklaus old school method was to push the hips toward the target to establish tilt. A more conventional method used by the majority of pga pros is to keep the hips level and drop the trail shoulder. Gankas claims it is a much easier position to rotate from. I believe he is correct. I could provide a very long list of players which use each method and the pros and cons associated with both setups. For me I feel the conventional method produces the best results. Hogan obtained this tilt very different from the old school method. Mr. Hogan pulled that trail foot back and added more flex in the trail knee to achieve this tilt. Could his secret lie in the geometry of his setup ? Dunno. I feel Mike Maves nailed that one.
    For me I have probably to much lateral motion in the downswing to use the "old school method. Great video !
    Thank yinz

    Can’t stress enough what a game changer the volleyball drill is...one drill fixed all my major issues. Immediate improvement in all aspects of ball striking. After incorporating the volleyball drill I broke 80 for the first time! Also gained 15-20 yds on all clubs due to increased lag and power generated from going fully through the ball to a complete finish instead of at the ball. The volleyball drill is amazing. Actually feeling the compression and impact staying behind and through to target fully engages the kinetic chain and directly transferred to hitting a golf ball. When I set up on the course with a golf ball I’m able to put that same energy and compression into the golf ball. Amazing instant results for me!

    When I first started to apply Shawn's tilt 'advice' (9 months ago) it was an absolute game changer. Solid drives out of the screws with consistent ball flight right into my shot flight plan! It was scary good!! Further I fully understood what I had to do, why I had to do it and how to fix things when they went wrong. This video should be in Shawn's top 5 as it is so critical to the golf swing! Great work Sav and Mu!!

      This video was an absolute game changer for me too. Golfer for 20+ years who knew I was a hands swinger and suffered from short distances but yet never could fix the problem, even with lessons from multiple instructors, as nothing ever clicked. Focusing on nothing other than Mr. Clement's instruction on the correct grip, keeping arms close and feet open and then beginning the downswing with the weight on the left leg, slightly tilting in order to hammer the nail and (this was huge) looking at the intermediate point instead of at the ball has me now swinging through the ball and increased 25 yards per club instead of hitting at the ball (I could not focus on the treeline as my target and also the intermediate point at the same time, but as soon as I looked at the intermediate point instead of the ball, boom…wow). If you are reading this and suffer from being the short hitter in your group and have long resolved that you will always be the short hitter who has to play the game differently farther away from the hole for approaches, this could be your video, it was for me. Thank you, Mr. Clement!

    The old teaching books used to talk about the "K" setup position as demonstrated by Gary Player & the "Y" position used by some older less flexible golfers and the need to have a stronger grip for the latter. Sav seems to be in a very pronounced "K" setup position like Gary Player. I don't think I can get my 75 year old well padded body in the "K" position anymore without breaking something but everything you teach here makes sense.

    I am attributing my current injury in part to improper head position and tilt. Shawn recently confirmed that my position was problematic. The blessing is the pain reminds me when my swing or setup is incorrect. I can only chip and pitch right now. If i default to the ball there is a big scream coming. If I setup and engage the kinetic chain there are all good shots and no pain.

      Yes, it is not the face you want to look at, it is always the GRIP-CLUBFACE RELATIONSHIP DYNAMICALLY. When you deliver your action into the direction you want to start the ball, is the ball flying the way you want…see a pattern before you make any adjustments.

    Shawn only about 1/3 in but I love the tilt videos and the feet positioning, grip part, static vs dynamic with the hammer, etc. I love all your stuff but you already know that. BUT......... when you do these videos discussing the tilt, feet, stance and grip position as well as discussing balance at the start, middle and finish of the swing but I have one wish bc I know I struggle with it and many other do as well. It’s the keeping the head in basically the same position in 3D space around yourself until your trail shoulder collects it and brings it up into the finish. If you keep that head centered and you have proper balance and tilt and weight distribution at address it is almost impossible to go into an over tilt or under tilt position during the swing. If you let your head move toward/away from the target or toward/away from the ball you are going to absolutely ruin that balance, tilt and weight distribution. My way to combat this is to really feel the high fly to center with a bball bat through the down swing. It’s very easy to get to the top and allow that head to either drift back or to shift forward. Drifting back throws you off balance and leaves you on the back foot big time, allowing it to drift forward throws out the tilt and you aren’t anywhere near target focused. That really tells me my focus, if it shifts forward I defaulted to the ball. If my head drifts back I got super lazy and was trying to hard. Issue is with this is you can get lucky and get the head back to the same spot and make a nice swing but you’ll have major consistency issues.
    Okay and then when you went righty you covered all I just typed out lol. But you say it as ball focused. I see and feel it as head moving forward. I know why it went forward bc I defaulted but I didn’t know what ball focused meant until the last couple years. Ball focus means my head went shifted forward. To some people learning that can be a big help just knowing that one way you go from target to ball focus is by allowing your head to shift forward.
    Gosh wrote all that and last 3 min you touch on it. You could spend a video just on head position and I think you could come out with a lot of folks whose lightbulbs would go off.

    This is one of the only times that I have seen you emphasize maintaining lag with the hands leading the clubhead as you are throwing the club out toward the target in the downswing. If you don't do this, it effectively lengthens the club as compared to setup position and you end up hitting fat and not down and thru with ball first contact.

  • @TT-hz3pz
    @TT-hz3pz 4 роки тому +2

    This makes so much sense. I can see how in a static position you can evaluate angle of attack but without all the electronics, how can you evaluate whether you are dynamically attacking at an ascending angle? I suspect this may be a problem because I have measured my driver swing speed at between 96-102 and I only get about 180-200 yds of carry. I think I'm hitting up and near the top 1/2 of the face but not much to show for it. So is there a way to infer AOA using ball flight?

Do you think theres some sort of anatomy difference between men and women that would bias women to be able to more easily hit up on a driver like that than men?

I added 50+ yards in one practice session when I switched to this type setup. For some reason my iron play went to crap. I just could not apply this set up to my irons. In the end I reverted back to a more over the ball neutral grip/stance. I now sadly live with having to be happy with 250 being my longest drives... BORING! • @jasonmitchell7550

    If I'm understanding this correctly, there should be no feeling of a left(lead) side bend in the backswing. The tilt to the right (trail) side at address is to be maintained through the entire swing in order to keep the head behind the ball. If there are two tilts (one to the left side in the backswing and another to the right side in the downswing) it then becomes too difficult for the head to redirect to the trail side in the downswing?

    • @psilver063
      @psilver063 4 роки тому

      Head stays still in 3D space while swinging. The better you are with your posture at address and turn. The better you are going to be through the swing but only if you keep your head in the same spot through the entire swing until the moment your trail shoulder collects it on the follow through. If you can literally set up 100% perfect as he says, you turn properly, all you would have to do is keep that head still and again the trail shoulder collects it but the ball is long gone by then and the release as happened by them.

      Hey Scott! Congrats on the fabulous work so far! I just did a 3 hour session Friday with a student like you and we added 25 yards to his irons in about an hour-we were able to get from 150 to 175 yards with his 7 iron and 200 to 230 on his hybrid. We almost got there with the Driver but he now knows what to focus on to get there in the next few weeks. He thought it was because of his physique and we put that to bed in a hurry. Yes it matters what you do with your health and you want to absolutely keep going with what you are doing.
      What I recommend you do is get on our premium channel at www.wisdomingolfpremium.com (just $9.95 per month) and see our “senior series” right out of the gate. It is a great series to start with which will get your priorities and focus in order. Then do a video analysis with me and I will point you to the areas you need to focus on to get to your next level!

    There’s trail side bend on the set up, on the backswing you side bend your lead side, so shoulders are tilted, and on the downswing you regain the side bend on the trail side. Is this the sequence?

    • @golflessons
      @golflessons  3 роки тому +1

      The goal is to keep the focus on delivering the action through to the direction you want to start the ball; so the side bend is on the trail side throughout and there is no thinking about it. See “grass whip training shawn clement” as a perfect task example that will keep you in the proper side bend throughout.

    • @golflessons

      Hi Larry! it could be all over the map! Golfers who swing AT THE BALL are on average 30 yards behind those who swing THROUGH the ball. Then we get to the efficiency of the swing where we see if the golfer has the range of motion he or she needs to gather the momentum necessary to deliver a nice kinetic chain that whips the club easily into the direction you want to start the ball!

I must have gone thru all the videos on driver (youtube AND premium) but I still can't get a positive AOA on my driver.
