Two supersonic planes escorting a space shuttle mounted on a jumbo plane, this is incredibly cool.
that pilot makes the big money
It can carry a space ship yet my bag over 50 pounds cost extra
Justin Greenman the shuttle's wings are providing lift - does your bag do that? :-)
160kg man pays no extra for a 49 pound bag, but when i weigh 75kg i pay extra for my 51 pound luggage? What??
Costas En Garde that a good think that you don t have to pay by how much you weight, it wouldn t be fare then, but its fare that if you want an extra bag of 50 kg, you ll pay the same again if you weight 35 or 200 kg. Witch is good, Not the fact that you have to pay, but it s fare..
@@christopheur9758 None of it is fair. Some fatasses pay the price of one ticket while they take up 2 seats. And in the end, who brings more total weight on the aircraft? Flying is not a right you can take for granted, it is a privilege. Too fat people should either not be allowed to fly or pay extra both for the additional weight and the 2 seats their fat ass takes up.

The freeze frame at 1:00 What I would give to see the Wright brothers faces if I showed them that. Hey, look a jet that can fly at super-sonic speeds, next to a jet that can carry hundreds of people in comfort thousands of kilometers...carrying a spacecraft that is launched into fucking space.
Yeah and that jump in technology was made... 70... 80 years after they flought?
Hell kids from the time the Wright brothers made their fly would by alive to see the Concorde break the sound barrier :D
Sam ok but the spatial shuttle don't have anything to do whit the wright brothers
Wright brothers were the first people to achieve powered flight. The space shuttle is a spacecraft designed to enter orbit and re-enter the atmosphere. Aerodynamic enough to glide to a landing strip and obviously designed using principles derived from aircraft. So far beyond what they imagined when they took off, and yet here are three different aircraft that would astound them in this clip.
You clearly have no idea what I was trying to say. You should explain yourself further.
Sam chill dude its just a UA-cam comment
The space shuttle wasn't really an aircraft though. It was a true orbiter almost solely designed to carry a large crew and payload and for rapid re-entry (the heatshield). The only reason it appears as an aircraft are its nose, cockpit, tail and wings. Kind of unnecessary for re-entry but the design was based on gliding back to earth. Also the gliding was nothing like common glider aircraft, unable to use thermals and not being ultra-lightweight to stay in the air.

Nelly Burunduk nasa was founded to counteract the soviet Sputnik program as it meant the Russians had a prototype icbm. Once the Soviet Union collapsed the us no longer had a reason to invest in space defenses so the us began rolling back projects. A second trip to the moon was even planned but funding was cut.
Ego Banana, we've landed and walked on the moon six times:
Apollo 11, 12, 14, 15, 16, and 17. Missions 15 and 17 spent three days on the lunar surface each.

At a NASA meeting a long time ago: How are we going to move the Shuttle from Edwards, or White Sands back to Florida? Unknown engineer: "Let's mount it to the top of a 747!" What?
They had originally envisioned a completely new aircraft design specifically to carry the orbiters. It looked a lot like a Russian pre-WWII bomber design with pontoon type structures on either side of the orbiter position housing the landing gear, and enormous unswept wings with six turbo fan engines suspended below the wings. This was seen as too costly to develop, and never made it from the design concept. The next idea was to use USAF C-5 Galaxy's, but it being a high wing design was not preferred, and acquiring C-5's AND having access to parts and supplies for the aircraft as well as USAF insistence that the aircraft remain in their control (politics) ended that idea. In the end, they just purchased used Boeing 747's from American Airlines and JAL.
Hold my beer, watch this
An early plan was to equip the Orbiter with engines so it could be flown as an aircraft on return from orbit. That was simply too much dead weight. Next came a plan to equip the Orbiter with a fuel tank and 5 jet engines below the fuselage for the ferry-flights but only allow it to glide back to the landing strip on return from orbit. That was less practical than the carrier plane. Note that originally the carrier plane, which had less than 1,000 miles range while carrying the Orbiter, was only able to refuel on the ground. After a science fiction story by G. Harry Stine about a Shuttle making an emergency landing on an island, they added an aerial refueling capability, but normally would refuel on the ground during the ferry-flights.
@Bob Loblaw Way back when 'Enterprise' was testing they took it on a tour of the country. I knew it was coming into Salt Lake but didn't think much about it. Then one day I was at work and I heard the 747's engines, and I thought "What is an airliner doing flying that low over downtown? It's nowhere near the traffic routes." Then it hit me, and I ran outside whooping and hollering. The other guys at our copier-repair shop followed me, and sure enough the flew right overhead. Made my whole year.
To add to the story of who came up with this, the gentlemen (engineer) actually built a scale RC 747 with a scale shuttle on it to prove the concept and presented it to the higher ups. You can see the actual RC 747 with the shuttle, INSIDE the actual 747 with Endeavor at the Houston Space Center....totally worth the trip...also look for the last Saturn V...
Now that's what I call a flypast!

After the landing, it was paraded around the city streets so folks could see it up close and personal on its approach to the Science Center. Don’t know what we did with the pictures we shot, though. Had forgotten all about it until I happened upon this video.

Here we see the rare nuptial flights of the aviation world. The smaller fighters will flit about, hoping to catch the eye of the female, but she has clearly not been impressed. The shuttle's imposing profile and confident approach, however, are enough to draw her interest.

Despite all of the negative things we have done, we AMERICANS have done more good things for the world and for the betterment of humanity, and saved more lives than all other nations combined (probably). Some people will hate us, because they are ignorant; maybe they are just haters. Some people have legitimate reasons. Our government definitely needs to get it's act together or we will loose the greatness that made this country what it is today.

Why would somebody unlike this?
First off this shows what a great plane the 747 was! But on to what I would like to know, does anyone know the purpose of this very low flyover of LAX a protected airspace? Was this some type of emergency check by forces or people on the ground due to some type of problem or emergency? Or was this a normal procedure ground check each time the shuttle was ferried? I would love to hear the official answer on this one as the LAX protected airspace had to allow for not only this jet but the two fighter jets in escort of it as well. By the way this was an excellent catch for a video? Top notch job! And I do agree with another one of your commenters in that I love hearing the sound of the engines kind of winding down slightly as it comes in and then the power coming on as he climbs back out, what a tremendous show of 4 air/spacecraft (fighters included) ever seen in action in one place. Only in "AMERICA"
Do they also control the shuttle's wing and rudder?
