- I was so busy, I forgot I was catching up to Berserk. I forgot how much I loved the manga and how no other piece of work can manage to be close to this. Here it is a tribute to Kentaro Miura, to Guts and all of Berserk's saga.

having a legacy to immortalize you is something not many have, i'm glad Kentaro got the attention he deserved with Berserk
I'm also glad that even those who weren't fans of his work stayed civil. I've never seen any comments bashing him on a personal level or anything like that, and that's something not many have achieved either, especially with how polar the internet is nowadays.
@@vermillion6159 yea completely agreed, the closest we have to that were people joking about his idolmaster addiction, but those weren't really meant as genuine insults, just as little teases and, well, jokes

He really didn't enjoy writing it at the end there though. He's said a few times that he was continuing the series out of a sense of obligation and duty. I'm sure he was proud of what he was doing but dreading continuing the series due to the pressure to keep up with his quality of work, the potential backlash that may follow some of his creative decisions and all that.
Guts really is one of the best written characters ever..
He's litterally a Marry sue.

I just read 364 yesterday and the ending reminded me of the tears in rain scene from Blade Runner. The synth here makes that resonant even more.

susumu hirasawa was a goddamn genius. he used a medium no other musician would have thought to use to convey Guts's tragedy and melancholy in musical form, and did so more effectively and beautifully than any other musician ever could have.

The beautiful thing about the story having no true end, is its much like life itself. We all need to push on and keep carrying on forward. But hopefully even tho we all may never have some grand end to our story much like Guts we can end it in a place of peace.
And now his disciples and his friend have decided to carry the torch.
I love how the song goes from something calm/thoughtful/forlorn to this chaotic, heart-racing, dangerous sound at 4:47. The horror is really conveyed well in this segment.
But what I love even more is the transition again around 5:50 -- the song picks up into this ascending, almost noble rage to defy and struggle through the death and chaos, paralelled perfectly with that shot of Guts' absolute rage.
first half: "oh alright, cool. this is chill"
second half: "RIP AND TEAR UNTIL IT IS DONE"
Man, I still haven’t fully realized that Miura is gone and that there will never be an ending to Berserk. But maybe that’s the best ending we could ask for. Rest In Peace Kentaro…

I just wanna take a moment to appreciate the video editing in the end here.
We see Guts in the eclipse slashing apostles left and right, while a higher tempo version of the song plays. This part hits hard, because we know what's about to happen, and because the song perfectly captures Guts's blind rage.
Then, an apostle manages to bites his arm. He looks up. The song switches back to its slow and melancholic tempo, and the image slowly turns into Guts walking forward, as if what we just saw were his own memories, always troubled by the events that happened that night.
I got goosebumps all over my body, what a beautiful video. What an amazing tribute to Miura's work.

That manga was too big to be completed by a single man

I wanted to send a big hug to all those who enjoyed every second of this great masterpiece, and who are gathered here today out of love and admiration for Guts, Griffith and Kentaro Miura.

I was listening to your Baka Mitai remix the other day when I was feeling awful, but I ended up listening to Guts' theme because it suited that particular spot of melancholy better....And now you do this. I love coincidences.
I really can’t explain the feeling that this series and main character give me. The underlying message of never giving up and always fighting for your loved ones and yourself really inspires me. Berserk has forever changed my life and I’m so thankful that I chose to get the first volume. Rest in paradise Miura Sensei

Ngl I’ve watched the anime and read the manga countless times since I was 15 years old. Berserk means a lot to me, had an ex paint the scene wear guts is sitting at the top of the camp after fighting the 100 mercs. Idk why but I cried when I saw the painting. Berserk will always have a place with me thank you Miura, rip.
This is fantastic. I haven't watched much of the 90s anime but I've listened to Gatsu for dozens of hours on loop. It's the perfect relaxing melancholy song. One of these days I'll read the rest of the manga.

Susumu Hirasawa, the composer for the soundtrack uses a lot of these sounds. Listen to Forces or Aria and it's heavily synth..
Actually listen to Hirasawa because he does awesome work all over.
And he's such a berserk fan he *asked* to get to compose for the series, and basically volunteers for it.
Phenomenal work.

I miss him so much it's so hard.
Miura-Sama was an absolute master of storytelling and even though I'm only partway through the manga I am deeply despondent I or anyone will not see his story come to his vision of complete.

You know, most themes for characters like this are usually brash, bold, and aggressive. While this particular one is a remix, the original hits you harder than heavy metal ever could. You really get the sense of what Guts goes through. Unlike Goku who has a child like wonder to him, while I've never read much of the manga Guts doesn't. Guts is more like Piccolo or Vegeta. When you hear the vocals you can really hear the sense of despair but Guts keeps going.
Synthed straight out of the eclipse there. Griffith vibin with Guts to those otherworldly beats.
They made up and are friends again.
This is canon now.

You made a great song better. I think we can all relate to Guts, and while I've never read or watched it, it seems like its a story about one man and his struggle and the moaning to me always encapsulates that feeling of grave difficulty but also the resolve of Guts to keep fighting even when the enemy seems too strong.
Kentaro, you're up there with Toriyama and even further as just a great author.

Before Game of Thrones and Lord of the Rings, Japan had Berserk. And what a magnificent manga and anime it is, besides the new series. Guts, Casca, and Griffith are all characters that felt human, and had their own perceptions on the world. I will watch the film series and original anime once more so I can take in the series. To the memory of Kentaro!
