    Just wanted to let you know, or anyone know, that this video was extremely helpful! I recently bought a polaroid and my first set of film did not turn out that great, but with the help from this video I gained quite a bit of knowledge on what to do and what not to do. Thank you for posting this handy video for us polaroid beginners!!

    Yard sales and flea markets are a must if you're getting into Polaroid shooting. I got a sun 600 for $4 and a Polaroid one step for $5. would never spend more than $10-$15 on a Polaroid.

    • @Gizmex
      @Gizmex 7 років тому

      i agree. i got one for 5 dollars. 40$ and over is way to expensive! its already enough paying for the film!!!

    • @savannahgomez404
      @savannahgomez404 7 років тому

      Ch33seyPenguin it honestly depends though, because any SX-70 cameras are at the absolute very least between 60-70 dollars and that's pushing it to the absolute lowest because SX-70 cameras aren't regular Polaroid one step cameras or anything basically mainstream now a days so you pretty much need to expect expense when it comes to those. I got mine for 140, and it works beautifully!

      without the factories and machines to develop the film, its difficult. Impossible Project is trying to recreate it even using their own machines.

    just because I'm a photography nerd and i want to spread some knowledge. the darkness and lightness adjustment you were talking about is what is called exposure. as in light exposure. its the amount of light that is allowed into the lens. totally loved looking at all these poloaroids. i have a 600 as my first camera ever back in the late 90s and this is making me so nostalgic. thanks for sharing.

    Love this video! It is also super important to say that the SX-70 films used to be 100 ASA, but now they are 160 ASA, so you have to darken the picture a little even in regular lighting to correct that. :-))

    I got a polaroid sun 600 in a thrift store for £1 fully working and I sold it on ebay for like £40! The pictures were cool but the film was way too expensive. 35mm photos are my bag, and that's already expensive enough with processing films and buying the films in the first place, but polaroid film is just hell no expensive

    Polaroid Sonar cameras use, as the name implies, sonar (sound wave), focusing. They bounce an ultra sonic sound wave off of the subject and measure the time it takes for the sound wave to return to the camera to determine the distance from the lens.
    If you try and take a picture through a car window for example, the sound wave will bounce off of the glass and the camera thinks the subject is only a few inches away, not off in the distance where your eye is focused.

    hey thanks for the video! for future reference the brightness darkness wheel actually controls the exposure/shutter speed. so the longer the exposure, the brighter the image will be. but more likely it will be blurry because the shutter is open longer. so just be sure the be holding it really steady. the shorter the exposure the darker the image. obviously use when it's bright out which you already know. also since the shutter is open for a shorter amount of time, the sharper the image will be as well. it's also a lot better if whatever you're photographing is in motion!

    Thank you so much for this video! I found two Polaroids at a local Habitat store and got both for $22. I didn't know how to use them at all, but you showed me the light! I was able to get a pack of Impossible film while in NYC and put the pack in both cameras (I took one pic with one, went into my pitch black closet, put the black cardboard cover inside the pack and then put it all back into the next camera). I also keep the box and cartridge as you said to develop and test to see if cameras work when I see them. It's so. Much. FUN! I hope to acquire an SX-70 soon! Thank you again!

    JFYI.. The black card thingy that protects the Polaroid film is called a dark slide. You do not need to bring both the SX-70 or 600 empty battery film pack with you to test if the camera works when you're out shopping. either one will fit any of the SX-70 or 600 cameras.

    Have you tried stirring into the emulsion as it develops? We used to take polaroids and as soon as we could see the slightest ghost of an image, we would use a pen cap to draw designs in the background around the main subject. Sometimes the colors smear like tie dye...sometimes you just get cool Van Gogh kinda texture or just black line patterns. it's fun!

    You are awesome, my dear! I had a Polaroid habit a couple of years ago and I wish I saw this video because I spent a small fortune on 600 film and was so dissapointed in my results I just thought I sucked! I would go on Polaroid sites and see all these beautiful ephemeral misty images and feel so down. I think out of about 100 photos I'd have one I liked. Watching this video I was doing the exactly what you were doing in your early days.... makes me feel better! So thanks!

    If you get an older Polaroid that uses pack (peel apart) film you can get Fuji instant film that is about a dollar a shot and works properly. Of you don't want to peel apart, Fuji Instax, again about a dollar a shot and just ejects out the top of the Instax camera. Impossible film just doesn't work very well.

So what i do now, if you are wanting a polaroid, wait tilll Thanksgiving sale on the website and they have "old" film on sale! THAT IS PERFECT TO TEST ON! alright so I have a question, I noticed you leave your cameras "opened" on your thing and that's what I wanted to do (y'know, display it in my room), but I was worried it would damage the camera, being opened for, like, ever?

    • @Arctic_Foxx01

    I have a friend who is interested in polaroid cameras and she has a few questions, unfortunately she can't seem to post it here.
    "She knows that you keep polorids in a box, but when you take them out, do you automatically shield them so the exposure can be proper? How do you keep the pictures separate when they are developing? Can you lay them on each other and no issues happen?"
    Hope to hear from you :)

    Hey, great video, was helpful seeing how the pictures could turn out. I have a Polaroid impulse and didn't use the film for like 2 years after I loaded it, lol, wanted to use it for special occasions and what not(+like not much $ on hand at the time)... Didn't do too well after so long. ANYWAY, incase you're still into Polaroid shooting, and if you don't already have one, I would recommend getting a Polaroid 420, really cool camera, AND FUJI FILM STILL SELLS FILM FOR IT(FP-100c & FP-3000b). Major plus is the cost too, like $11 for a 10 pack, not as sensitive to light, since peel-apart film, oh also slightly bigger picture area. You could also get the big flash dome with the old time-y bulbs, imagine you could have fun with that, lol.

    Instax 210 is a good Polaroid camera(no not those stupid minis) , its a little older than some of the ones, you have it was my first Polaroid and the film is really cheap it 20$ for 20 shots so its a really good deal, if you wanna give it a try i would love to see your reveiw on it. I just got a ONESTEP and i seeing the film is a lot more expensive but its all in the name of ART lol loved your vid keep it up!

    What is the difference between the sun600, one step and the cool cam? Been watching Polaroid videos all day for two or three days straight and getting my first Polaroid one step. Kinda obsessed, my aunt used Polaroid cameras when I was younger and I thought it was the coolest thing ever.Never have I ever seen a printer camera before. And I'm just now coming to realization that I can actually own one. So funny I know. 😍😊😅😘☺😅😅😅😅

    beautiful work. u can improve if master the built-in flash. try retake pictures wih sun in the background...turn flash on, and "darken" (exposure) all the way down. u should be able to create intersting shots. :)

    I just got a Sun600 for $2.92 on Goodwill. The lens look very clean but I still need to buy some films to test if it's working. Thanks for this awesome video.

      Charlee e You can buy empty film packs from Impossible to test it! It's much cheaper than a full pack of film.

    Mine broke before I even got the hang of it. :( I shoot with a DSLR mainly so I don't know much about film cameras, but you might look into getting a Lomography Fisheye camera. They're really neat! I love mine.
