    On Fridays with my friends we have dinner in with movies. I asked them three weeks ago if you were to look for these jeans (I brought a pair) how would you search for them. I sat with each person and watched them search. These people don’t buy used clothes or shop on eBay so I got to see how clunky their searches were. Eye opening. Then I asked them if they were to search for something they wanted to buy for themselves what is it and how would they search for it. Shocking.

      Excellent exercise, I've done it too. It's really eye opening to see how a shopper shops or a novice shops. It helps us better position our own items once we can see it through the eyes of a buyer.

      It's not hard at all. I think if people take the time to leave a message I can take the time to respond. Its a choice. Sometimes it takes more effort not to do things than it does to do them.
      And when I made the choice to respond to everything, that's what I'll do until it's humanly impossible not to do if it ever gets to that point. Until then I appreciate all the comments and enjoy hearing from everybody. Thank you for checking out the video I hope you enjoyed it.

    This is so true! Reselling is NOT a 9-5 job. I learned how much work a business takes to run from my grandfather who owned a Tavern(bar/restaurant) and my old boss when I worked at a pizza shop(my first job in high school). I’m thankful for both of those men for the information I was learning without them even knowing. Even at any “regular” job I’ve worked I wanted to do the most and show how valuable I am. Thats why I got into reselling, I hated being looked at as an overachiever or like I’m trying to be better than others. I just take pride in what I do. Anyhow, running an eBay store takes more than a few hours a day. It’s literally 24/7. If a customer messages in the middle of Christmas dinner, I’m answering. If a customer needs more photos and I’m close to the item, I’m dropping what I’m doing and going to take those photos. It’s stressful at times because customers can be stressful. But other than that, I love the hustle and I love providing items to people and they are happy with the job I did.

    Tech showing why he's the real deal in this business! I sincerely hope people are listening to this man instead of all the other typical Reseller UA-camrs.
    @53:02 Just to cosign on Curb Alert / Dumpster Diving. I'm basically doing this 2-4 times a week. And I usually will find a few hundred bucks on stuff that was tossed. Found the Apple ][ like Tech did. Found a sealed test market VHS of "Fight Club" that sold instantly for $500. Just sold a runner timing kit for $300. Cost of goods was all zero.
    The hustle never stops. Thank you so much for being a guiding light in this business bro.

    • @RetroSho
      @RetroSho 4 місяці тому

      @@ritasjourney I wouldn’t say look for “great things” but look for stuff that has a decent cost and an extremely high sellthrough rate. Like stuff that sells for 25-50 bucks but has 80-300%+ sell through.
      This is the real sauce that Tech has been talking about for a while. Can be had in yard/garage sales, flea markets, estate sales, dumpster diving etc. If you don’t know what it is, don’t be ashamed to comp the item on the spot. And aim to keep the buy cost as low as possible per item. If they want more than what it’s worth, don’t be afraid to walk away from the deal.

    I immediately subscribed once I heard what the part time job is. I did reselling for the first few years as a hobby, I listed here and there and make sells here and there. I loved my FT job and was making money, so reselling was whatever at that time and I was not ready for the actual work of listing, I love to source, hate to list (like so many of us). Well, my wages from my FT job officially hit the, not keeping up with the cost-of-living stage. I was struggling, Door Dash and Uber Eats aren't like how it was before. So, I realized I needed a PT job, I could go work for Target or I could work for myself. I decided I was going to work PT for myself and I'm getting the results, but I'm not going to lie, and it been hard, but I got into the mindset that working for someone else PT is harder. And nothing worth having comes easy, it's been a journey but I'm in control.

    I cannot express how valuable the timing of this video is in my life. This week I was standing in the middle of goodwill, struggling to find stuff, and I realized- a year and a half in, with lots of “research” under my belt- that I knew absolutely nothing. “Lots” is not enough. It was so humbling.I spent the weekend studying like I used to in college - like hours - and that is when I realized- honestly, I know nothing. I felt embarrassed.I know nothing because I have not made it my job. Today I’m figuring out now what it will look like to structure a third part time job into days, and I have more questions than answers as I realize I just have so much to learn. But - this humbling weekend of reflection, backed up with this timely video in my life- gives me hope. Huge pivot. I can’t thank you enough and your time is valuable Tech because it helps my life so much, Melissa B

Actually I have heard that garage sale routes like Peaches to Beaches is getting harder to source good items there because too many "professional" sellers are showing up and quoting almost ebay prices. I haven't been to that route. We just have to be better and give ourselves better opportunities. Going to a branded garage sale route & not expect professionals, idk

    I can avoid getting a part-time job. I didn't go full time until my retirement started after a 31 year career. I been doing ebay since 2001. I focus 100% on listing, and that generates my sales.

    Speaking of niching down in certain categories only, I noticed that the way eBay's algorithm seems to work, is it considers activity when you list in the same categories. Consistently. I, like most resellers, started out as an everything seller, I'm transitioning to clothes and shoes primarily, because there's no way I can consistently list books, and pots and pans, and ceramics, and toys, and ephemera, and jewellery, etc. About what you said regarding analyzing your own business metrics and processes, it's spot on. My CPA once told me that I was too busy working INSIDE my other business, to the point that I had no time to actually RUN my business. It's a paradigm shift.Thank you for taking the time to teach people about all this Tech...

    Once again tech you speak 1000% the truth! there is NOTHING wrong with having a Part time brick and mortar SIDE hustle Job (yep eBay's the FULL TIME Job/business but the brick and mortar is the the side hustle (when most look at reselling as the side hustle lol) like you my mom was a single parent and had to work 2 jobs at one point well in the late mid to late 90's she was a substitute teacher and she also sold on ebay and amazon so she would do the sub job in the morning then come home and list this is where i got my work ethic (she was actually selling books before amazon was even a thing she would buy those book collector magazines and in the back of those magazines book dealers would have ads she would see what these book dealers were looking for and she would search our local area for these books then send them a list of what she found and they would either send her a check, Money Order or the good old well concealed cash) glad you made this video resellers need to know there is no shame in getting a part time gig in a brick and mortar or maybe even Uber eats or lyft as a side hustle if things are not going to well with reselling its also good way to build up liquid cash (even if your doing good) it all comes down to that work ethic i know everyone wants to do the least amount of work and get Maximum reward fact is that is living in the fantasy world we are all need to come down and start living in reality you want the maximum reward then you have to give the maximum effort....if you don't then you know how the saying goes "you get what you pay for" same thing here you only get out of you business what you put in im a very firm believer in that
