Probably got given it for free -- Rob does a lot of advertising for andertons after all. £500 is a small price to pay with the amount of visits/sales rob probably gets them.
Just one small "disagreement" guys... As far as Gretsch history goes, Gretsch was made in Brooklyn, then Baldwin bought them in the mid-60's... The Gretsch popularity began to wane as more affordable Strats, Teles, and Les Pauls became the big thing, and by the late 70's the guitars were really suffering in quality... Baldwin moved production from New York to Arkansas. There were a few fires that destroyed blueprints, records, etc, and Baldwin ended up suspending production and selling the tools and machinery for scrap. Fred Gretsch the 3'rd purchased the rights to Gretsch back from Baldwin around 1989... There was no factory, blueprints, etc... basically the company just existed on paper. Fred Gretsch heard a company called Terada in Nagoya, Japan were making wonder handmade archtops and contracted them to begin building Gretsch guitars again, though they were more like the Baldwin designs than vintage. Eventually artists like Randy Bachman, Brian Setzer, etc lent their vintage guitars to be cat-scanned and Gretsch veered back towards historical accuracy. Fender made a deal with Gretsch in 2003, and took over quality control, r&d, and distribution, but left production in Japan at Terada... So now the premium Gretsch guitars are made in Japan with "affordable" electromatics being built in Korea and China. All the Custom Shop guitars are built in a Gretsch shop inside Fender's California factory and overseen by master builder Steven Stern. Thanks guys, love the videos!

CaptAnderton you place the bridge on a guitar like that where the F Holes make the pointed shape. go check every F hole guitar in the store and that's where it will be. thats why they are shaped that way, form follows function
IMO Gretsch Streamliner guitars are the best electric guitars for the money on the market right now -the Broadtron pickup is a hot filtertron but still with a bit the breath and space of a filtertron and not the lifeless problems of a modern PAF. I just cut a record where the Streamliner dusted A/B tests with many famous guitars 4-6 times in cost. Plus they play amazing -nice work Indonesians! Korean Gretsch are great too
A big correction to Lee's recounting of Gretsch history: The company is not owned by Fender (although most of its operations have been assigned over to Fender management). Gretsch was resurrected from the dead by the great-grandson of the founder, also named Fred Gretsch, who bought the name back from the previous owner, the Baldwin Company. So Gretsch remains in the family!
Ron Light Probably because back in the day Fender called the Telecaster the "Broadcaster". Gretsch made them change it because of a drum set they had at the time. And it wasn't until a few years ago that Fender started making Broadcaster Reissues. Probably bought the drums so they could use that name. Don't know why they'd do that though. I guess when you're the #1 guitar seller in the world you have money for unnecessary crap.
Cusco Othriyas No, Fred Gretsch is still in control of the company, both drums and guitars, but Fender handles the guitar distribution, and DW handles the drum distribution.

I was surprised that these guitars actually weren't expensive. I instantly fell in love with the guitar that Rob held and thought by the manufacturing and sound that it must be a 2000€ guitar. So glad I was wrong.
This video played a huge part in me going out and getting one of these streamliners. I can confirm that despite the neck dive, they are absolutely sublime! I love mine to death!
I always heard that semi-hollows were quite versatile and you've shown that nicely, I think. While I was considering a Squier Classic Vibe, G&L or Kiesel/Carvin, you've convinced me to give these Streamliners some serious consideration. When their sales jump through the roof, you guys should pat yourselves on the back since I'm thinking you've just introduced a new demographic to Gretch! Thanks for the review and demo. ;)
I bought a 5420 when they first came out, and also a ProJet. Since then I've replaced the Bigsby on the 5420 with a trapeze-style tailpiece. It's prettier, stays in tune, and sounds better. Replaced the machine heads on the ProJet with Schallers. It now holds it's tuning better. Love both guitars. They seem to me to have the ideal tone between Gibson and Fender. Love the jamming. Reminds me of late night midweek rehearsals with my old band. When everyone is tired and just making noise trying to find the groove but struggling to stay awake and interested. Lee even stops playing at 29:10 to pick his nose!!! Love it! So relatable!
I religiously watch you guys and love your vids!! Cannot get enough of the tone you are pulling out of those Gretsch's. I just went out and bought one.
I just bought the Green Streamliner in lefty like the Red model Rob is playing at the beginning what a versatile guitar I can understand anyone buying the lot of em😎💯👍🔥🔥

+George Hypotenuse and the Triangles It's massively overproduced and glossy, absolutely airbrushed to perfection, but you can tell there's this thin thread that if you just unravelled all that auto-tune and digital manipulation and crappy songwriting, the guy is actually reasonably talented. I bet if the guy just went into a studio and tracked nothing but acoustic guitar and vocals, no auto-tune, no synth layers, and no outside songwriters, he'd probably be capable of putting out something reasonably decent.
I have been gassing for a semi-hollow for about 2 years now, I have always liked gretsch (or the idea of gretsch) but never played one. Finally our local guitar center (because Andertons has not made it to South West Florida yet) had a decent amount of semi-hollow bodied guitars and between the Epiphones, Ibanez's, and Peavies they were ok; then the 5623 Gretsch Red version was amazing. It would be awesome if more guitar stores stocked a good "range" of gretsch for people to play then purchase.... I think they are a little under-rated or forgotten by the majority of players. Thanks guys..
Well, I too was wondering which model Rob bought, but I would almost bet he bought the one he played the most - toward the end. It had the sexiest 'gain' tone - snarl really.
If anyone is wondering, on floating bridge instruments you align the bridge with the pointy bits in the F-holes. Guitars are a bit more picky than say an upright bass because intonation is driven by the frets instead of finger placement, but the points of the f-holes give you a good idea of where it goes.
Just picked up the G2420 Brooklyn Burst here in the states and I'm already in love with it. Great to see a review from you guys on these guitars. Cheers!
Rob you and Lee read my mind, I was looking for something like this and I thought "Hey lets see if there is a review of some Gretsch guitars using some fuzz or really dirty gain" and right when I open UA-cam I see you and Lee playing some Badass looking Gretsch guitars.
In my younger days the first really nice guitar that I bought was a Gretsch Tennessean and in my exuberance I went to change to a brand new set of strings when the (non attached) floating bridge fell off. I thought that I had broken the guitar and done unrepairable damage not realizing that this was just the way it was supposed to be.
Congrats on the little one Chappers! Bringing a child into your life is one of the most amazing and frightening adventures that life has to offer. Soak it up amigo. 😜 Another stellar video gents. Cheers!
Approaching 60 and have decided I would like to buy guitar and setup. To my ears of all the guitars you folks have played in your videos the sounds of this Gretsch really strike me as the most appealing. I think at my stage in life, I can spend the money on a “nicer” setup without worry and satisfy my greed of wanting nice things. Is it possible to cover the Japanese versions available as we approaching the end of 2019? BTW, as someone who knows nothing about playing music I am digging your videos as I research all the possibilities.
Do you know that feeling when you are slowly falling in love? You forget everything around you and all that matters is you and her... And suddenly you realise that she is too good for you. She, a stunning redhead with a beautiful semi-hollowbody and great curves comes from the wealthy Gretsch family and you are just a poor guitarist without any money or fame. That´s what happened to me. I can´t even put in words how deep it hurts my heart that I don´t have a Gretsch.
I swear, some of the editing and bleeping makes me laugh out loud, watching you guys always makes my day a little happier. I wish I lived either one of your lives! Cheers from Cincinnati Ohio!
I'm a lefty. I got the big red hardtail like Rob plays first. Swapped out the yellow knobs for chrome gretsch arrows. Also put a roller bridge and a duesenburg trem. Love how it plays and sounds.
That intro jam features the face of a man who /needed/ that intro jam, and I'm not gonna lie - that grimy minor sludge rock was not what I was expecting to come out of a Gretsch Streamliner haha. Nice playing as usual, and though it's hard now, it will get better, Rob. I'm tellin' ya - look into a womb bear stuffed animal. They're magic in most cases for helping infants sleep and stay sleeping. Within reason :)
A lot of entry level asian made guitar (made in korea, japan, china) are made in indonesian factory. They were made mostly at the same factory under the koreans Cort factory which is located in eastern part of java, indonesia. Besides making Cort guitars, they also make squires, some series of fender japan and mexico and the parts for american fender, PRS SE series, yamaha pacifica series, gretsch, ibanez, schecter (including the golden schecter synister gates that they claim being made in korea lol) and some limited edition of epiphone (wildkat, flying V, sheratons, ect). And how do i know this? I live just around the corner of the factory lol.
I watched this then spent two days looking at reviews of the G2655T whilst drooling before placing an order for one at Andertons this morning. My wife and wallet do not thank you.
By the way you can use both of the tips in the middle of the f holes pointing towards the bridge and the middle should be pointing to where the saddle should sit
Rob, your playing! 😳Sublime! OMG! Beautiful. Dude, your playing totally inspires me. That first guitar you played. Me likely, me want. Stunning. Also, you guys do make me laugh. Trust me, where I am in life, (health issues) you do make me smile. Thank you. 😎🤘🏻
You must give it up for these two. Loads of videos, and they have no shame in their game. It takes big balls to have this much fucking fun as if no one is even watching
Thank you for actually explaining what it is I love about Bigsby trems. I had a go of one on a Riviera once and I was instantly a convert - so much though that I'm still considering putting one on a Strat.
It blows my mind a $500 guitar can sound like that, the little gig at the end was amazing! Those guitars have that Jimi Hendrix sonic sound, kind of grungy Nirvana style I’ll buy one of those for sure, easiest buy of my life.
Yeah, really enjoy the use of doubleneck by Rush, tough I really think double neck bass + guitar is more useful than guitar + 12 string gutiar And it would be really nice to see Chappers and the captain play one, or even Pete and Rabea
+Tiago Ducatti actually I kind of find the 12/6 string more useful. wish you were here tangerine knocking on heavens door fade to black and many more and of course stairway to heaven. these are all songs that a 12/6 string would be useful for and of course some rush songs 2
I bought one recently as my 2nd guitar and it's fantastic, it can do the soul/r&b/blues stuff I love but I can throw a fuzz on it and it sounds gnarly AF

Alvin was famous for his Gibson ES-335.
Malcom now plays the heavenly Gretsch./... or.... maybe just did take that highway to hell..
Just picked up the G2420 Brooklyn Burst here in the states and I'm already in love with it. Great to see a review from you guys on these guitars. Cheers!
hahaha Rory killed it on this one. The 17:45 roar was fantastic
Loving the new room ! You guys have been huge for me in terms of motivation to get back to making music and I couldn't thank you enough !
24:20 That feeling of defeat when you know you’re not leaving the music store without buying that guitar.
Utterly Utterly brillant! It's great fun watching you guys.
That riff theyre playing throughout the video is an Icelandic song called Fjöllin hafa vakað
Congrats on the little one Chappers! Bringing a child into your life is one of the most amazing and frightening adventures that life has to offer. Soak it up amigo. 😜 Another stellar video gents. Cheers!
Cult & Billy Duffy - best advertisement for anyone wanting to look at Gretsch.
Michael Reid totally agree! ! sonic mayhem! ! I mean temple!!
The vocalisation of that note at 19:05 is just BEAUTIFUL.
I think It's a bit small. I want the ones that Buffalo Springfield used to play. They take up about an acre.
That was the most awesome sounding jam session they did so far in this series
Holy shit, new room looks awesome, lot less cramped than the old one
Much much much more space...
I swear, some of the editing and bleeping makes me laugh out loud, watching you guys always makes my day a little happier. I wish I lived either one of your lives! Cheers from Cincinnati Ohio!
Damn that jam from- 18:19 gave me feels. Beautyfull and awsome sounding guitars. I am defenately in love now... so much, that it hurts. :D
I'm a lefty. I got the big red hardtail like Rob plays first. Swapped out the yellow knobs for chrome gretsch arrows. Also put a roller bridge and a duesenburg trem. Love how it plays and sounds.
Do a Chapman guitars ES-Style guitar!
Country Djentleman. Dig it. That golddust finish is an absolute stunner.
Gretsch really needs to make the guitar that lee's playing in left handed!!!!!!
Guys, seriously, 18:19 - 19:40 you are speaking to my soul, thank you for that.
That gold single cut thing is fuppin beautiful
Dave that's the one I was eyeballing the whole video.
I've been zeroing in on the 2420 burst finish sans trem, watching every demo out there -- yours has sold me on it!
The new space is amazing!
Cheers Jason...
Geez Lee, you're getting a lot better at guitar! Congratz Rob on becoming a new father!
Torino Green is so beautiful.
Nolan Milnes is that the name of that goldish colored one. that sucker is pretty
Nolan Milnes I agree thats why i bought a G2622T loved the color and the sound.
that's what made me fall in love with the gretsch i ended up buying.
Nolan Milnes I've just ordered that one
I agree too bad it doesn’t come left handed
That intro jam features the face of a man who /needed/ that intro jam, and I'm not gonna lie - that grimy minor sludge rock was not what I was expecting to come out of a Gretsch Streamliner haha. Nice playing as usual, and though it's hard now, it will get better, Rob. I'm tellin' ya - look into a womb bear stuffed animal. They're magic in most cases for helping infants sleep and stay sleeping. Within reason :)
The sustain is out of this world
That clean jam on those jazz style models! Sweet solos Rob.
Is it me, or are Indonesian guitars a lot more consistent in quality than Chinese ones? At least that holds true for Epiphone and Gretsch, IME.
jo sg no doubt and probably free of lead and other toxic waste. Chinese made products are just souless recycled mass produced poison.
@@yeyonge Jos Cak ...gitar gitar neng ndonyo iki akeh seng gaweane cort ..
Guys thank you so much. Your video played a good part on my choice of birthday guitar
I bought the G2622T in Torino green.
I watched this then spent two days looking at reviews of the G2655T whilst drooling before placing an order for one at Andertons this morning. My wife and wallet do not thank you.
Just bought one in Torino Green. It's lovely to play and has a great tone
More like a country Djentleman...hee.
By the way you can use both of the tips in the middle of the f holes pointing towards the bridge and the middle should be pointing to where the saddle should sit
Dat new room tho. It's beautiful!
Congrats on the new future shredder Rob!
..haha, you had me dying over your reference over inch measures. .
Rob, your playing! 😳Sublime! OMG! Beautiful. Dude, your playing totally inspires me. That first guitar you played. Me likely, me want. Stunning. Also, you guys do make me laugh. Trust me, where I am in life, (health issues) you do make me smile. Thank you. 😎🤘🏻
Love the new room!
Thank you Mark...
You must give it up for these two. Loads of videos, and they have no shame in their game. It takes big balls to have this much fucking fun as if no one is even watching
Do a blindfolded streamliner/electromatic vs top of the range gretsch stuff plz ;)
Thank you for actually explaining what it is I love about Bigsby trems. I had a go of one on a Riviera once and I was instantly a convert - so much though that I'm still considering putting one on a Strat.
I honestly thought Rob had something against hollow bodies. Nice to see him finally play one. I hope you guys review the Ibanez Artcore sometime :)
His favorite gibson is a es les paul custom (without the f holes), guess he just doesn't like the size of hollows in general
It blows my mind a $500 guitar can sound like that, the little gig at the end was amazing! Those guitars have that Jimi Hendrix sonic sound, kind of grungy Nirvana style I’ll buy one of those for sure, easiest buy of my life.
I can totally see "One String At A Time" hitting the iTunes charts.
yeah, but shouldn't "One String At A Time" be played one string at a time instead of chords?
I can't find it on spotify. Was really looking forward to the G-string verse.
Which did Rob actually purchase .I've had a G2622 for around 2 years and its so varied in the tones it sings .
Great reviews you guys .
Rory McLean is a freaking beast.
Best sound ever from you guys playing together.
DO REVIEWS ON DOUBLE NECKS
Please don't ..... I don't need one, but as soon as they review one I'll be GASing for one hehehe
+Tiago Ducatti lol actually it has it's uses other than stairway to heaven lol
+Tiago Ducatti I said double necks cause it's something they never done
Yeah, really enjoy the use of doubleneck by Rush, tough I really think double neck bass + guitar is more useful than guitar + 12 string gutiar
And it would be really nice to see Chappers and the captain play one, or even Pete and Rabea
+Tiago Ducatti actually I kind of find the 12/6 string more useful. wish you were here tangerine knocking on heavens door fade to black and many more and of course stairway to heaven. these are all songs that a 12/6 string would be useful for and of course some rush songs 2
the song part about g string is the funniest, its so raw and entertaining! keep up the impromptu jams like that hahaha
Rory!!!! I love you Rory!!!
I bought one recently as my 2nd guitar and it's fantastic, it can do the soul/r&b/blues stuff I love but I can throw a fuzz on it and it sounds gnarly AF
