For me, no audiobook narrator comes close to Timothy West. He’s on another level to everyone else and this series of Flashman audiobooks are just SO enjoyable to listen to, and an outstanding portfolio of audible work from West.
english history education was inadequate 65 yrs ago ( i am 77) one maybe 2 x 1hr per week. George Mc. Fraser..using Flashman has done so much to fill the void. Many thnx george.
Oh the joy thie Flashman series has given me for nigh on five decades. I decide to have a brief listen for old times sake and one page in I am entirely engrossed and right there alongside old Flash and hoping he beats the odds yet again.
What a wonderful character Flashman is. Hilarious! The stories are also brilliantly written, and engrossing history lessons as well. Just couldn't be better. Timothy West deserves a medal for his readings of them.
@@heatcheck3 I totally agree! I was very disappointed when I realized he had not read for this, one of my favorites. I love the use of the word 'caddish' in describing the character of Flashman. So perfect! David Case was the superior Flashman, hands down. However Timothy West is an extremally gifted reader and the story did not suffer. :)
Blimey! I utterly adore Flashman. Always have since my ma insisted I should have a read. Love their gung ho, sexist, fighty, naughty, historically researched and accurate loveliness of all of these books. Oh, and they do make me laugh and giggle and smile to a ridiculous degree. Bliss. these are simply outstanding thankyou so much.. if u close your eyes i xan here thw voice of Jim Hacker from yes minister instead .. the similarities are remarkable
This one has so much horror in it that it doesn’t shy away from . It’s a very difficult listen to at times as it’s almost certainly what happened but impossible to turn ioff . It is brilliant
Thank you so much for posting what is my favorite of all the Flashman books! I am grateful that Timothy West recorded it. He does a fine reading. But for the sake of others who are looking for readings of the Flashman series, there is no one better than David Case. He IS Flashman and all of his readings are quite simply the best. Unfortunately, I believe he passed away before he could record “the Great Game”. That was truly a great loss. But, if I am wrong about that, please inform us of where we can find it. We would all be ever so enriched and grateful.
5 of the 7 Tim West recordings are here, HelloDaves is a channel with TW doing Royal Flash, and the rest are on audible read by a couple other readers who I think are excellent. They just aren't quite Tim West. Flash for Freedom read by TW remains elusive.
@@hobozero9966 I've found Royal Flash. There seems to be Freedom missing but I will continue to keep an eye out for it in audio. Thanks a lot. I can always read them again and have passed the word on about your site.

Rowan Atkinson I believe created the Blackadder character from Flashman after listening to the first Parcel. The cowardly Cadd with incredible luck is hilarious. The Baldic character is shared amongst many and lands Flash is strife unknowingly that Flash is anything but a hero.

What I enjoy most about his reading is that he captures the emotion of an old man telling a story.
@tleaning. Couldn't have put it better myself.
Agreed. West was born to read those books. RIP
For me, Timothy West is by far the best reader of Flashman books
Yes, he's great. A very fine actor as well.
David Case on audible does a masterful job as well.
Agreed - you feel it's Flashman himself reading, great stuff!
Without question (though Case is very good too).
Couldn't agree more.

Harry is a bloody hero no matter how hard he tries not to be. Thiese stories just get better.
Wow and Double Wow! It does not get any better than this boys! Bravo and Thank You for sharing!

I've listened to a few narrators but Timothy West is undoubtedly the best.
@@heatcheck3 I listened to Case's Flash for Freedom. He's very good but I'll take West over him any day

No. West is Numero Uno!
Joy. Thank you. Utterly unobtainable. I'm sure we'll all end up in prison for listening to this but a price worth paying.
The Tim west reading is so much better than other audio versions of Flashman thankyou !

Fantastic from start to finsh.
Just great. A truly great ending. Thank you for uploading!
Timothy West 1934-2024 RIP
My favourite out of the series
"the agonizing stab of crocodile teeth in my leg" - more laughs per page than any other writer I know of.
This story tells the truth about the mutiny its up there with the best of the flashman books
I think this one is the best.
Every time I listen to/ read this Flashman book I cry. I’m not sure why but I cry my heart out. Every time. 😢
Changed my life forever discovering this series, sounds like bollocks but true
Absolutely perfect. Flashman’s voice exactly as I imagine it
To Ignatieff: "Let me go! We've had tea with the Queen!"
I agree that West is easily the best narrator - Peter Bowles should have been given the film part - he just was the perfect
Flashman
thanks man....love these

"Feeling randy is a damn romantic business!"
You're the best
I doubt there's a better passage ever in any book than the ignatieff hunting scene and lead up to it.
You should read more lol
No chance getting them in the western hemisphere, since copyright issues. Thanks!
Thank you very much for making these brilliant Flashman Audiobooks available. Is there a Timothy West version of Flash for Freedom available too?
A high point of audio books this combination , imo
Capital story telling ay what?! Deuced well told
Capital!
Will there be other Flashman books be committed to audio? If they already have where could I obtain them?

When are they going to make a proper film about these brilliant books,& not a silly slapstic as they tried before.
They got it all wrong. Flashman needs to be played as a drama with occasional dark humour, not a ridiculous pantomime.
Rowan Atkinson I believe created the Blackadder character from Flashman after listening to the first Parcel. The cowardly Cadd with incredible luck is hilarious. The Baldic character is shared amongst many and lands Flash is strife unknowingly that Flash is anything but a hero.
