  • I'm back with a brand new guitar building series "Phoenix - Rising ".
    We'll return to making some more templates for the Phoenix guitar by hand.
    In this video I'll focus on finishing the Guitar body template and make the template and accompanying jig to create an inlayed top.
    This is the first guitar building series coming from the new workshop so I'm very excited to show you around as I'm building this guitar and explain what I'm doing and more importantly, why and how I'm doing things.
    For a brief history behind this guitar you can watch the following videos:

    • Phoenix Rising - Prolo...

    Amazing video! Thank you. On my opinion as a joiner, there is nothing better, than take my time to enjoy my work and see, how it's slowly growing up to something new, that will make fun to use or will perfectly fulfill its purpose. Every day I'm trying to resist that pressure from my surroundings to work as fast as possible, that I have sometimes problems to enjoy my work. I am very happy to see you trying to work without that pressure. Our health and happiness is on a first place, everything else is a secondary. :)

    I like what you did with the control cavity. I also appreciated the explanation as there were things to think about. It was a good example of adapting as you go. You might consider speeding up the. Idea during those parts that are long and repetitive.

    Hi Daneil, I got my Phoenix T-Shirt today, love it! I would hate for you to feel rushed in a live stream while working on a project and trying to meet an end goal in real-time. Watching your videos post-production works great for me. Perhaps a live stream with a a cup of coffee answering written viewer questions or some tool tips. Thanks for teaching us!

    Hey Daniel, I definitely love these first two videos for the Phoenix series and personally I prefer this format over live streams.
    You underline how important is a template for the entire project and I found a lot of tips and confirmations about templates making,
    I really like the format of these videos: they're full of useful tips and comments and see you working is instructive and relaxing at the same time. I really appreciate that you take your time to get the perfect result you are aiming at: quality requires time but unfortunately this is not that obvious these days.

    Really interesting stuff Daniel and, yes, it would be really useful to have a ‘close-up’ on the top/inlay/copyring process to see the method and the thinking behind it! Cheers Daniel! 🥰🥰🎸🎸☕️☕️

    Hi Daniel. I think live streams is an excellent idea. It really helps us that are using mainly hand tools for sure. Guitar building is a never ending learning process just as playing them is. A craft that also is constantly evolving. Not unlike playing the instrument which also constantly evolves as music does. Much has changed since Elvis started it all back in the 1950`s. That is what makes it so magical as shit. You rock and thank you for all your guitar building wizardly wisdom. Rock on you bitches!

    I like the idea of the inlayed top, and I think that would be interesting for the fingerboard too, inlayed into the neck to give perfect binding. I remember fender did that a few years back to inlay a strat fingerboard although I don't remember the precise model. The technique of using the copy rings interests me too!

    Fitting the cover into the cavity has to be one of the hardest things to get right.

  • @dnizy
    @dnizy 28 днів тому

    That's an interesting way to do the inlayed top. Personally I'm just about to start on 1 with an inlayed top and back - double punishment! Fortunately I can use a local makerspace to CNC the templates. I'm planning to use off-body alignment pins and route out the cavity for the top/back before the body shape (whilst it's still a rectangular block). That makes the templates a bit simpler as it's just 1 layer.

    Have you ever seen those flex router template making guides ? They are about 1200 mm long and have a screw hole every 30 mm or so and you can bend them quite tight in both ways .
    I used one for a very similar idea on a guitar body and it worked amazing well and was really quick with no filing etc to make a perfect fit came straight of the router perfectly
    Flexi router template guide well worth checking out 👌

    Daniel, I'm glad the universe saw fit for you to make guitars. You are on the cutting edge of builders. Question, if you were to make a left handed version of your designs, would you be able to use the same template by just flipping it over, or does it require you to crate a unique template?

    • @UnquendorGuitars
      @UnquendorGuitars  21 день тому +1

      Thank you very much.
      Yes it’s possible to flip the templates to make left handed guitars.
      I once almost made a lefty body by accident.

      Hi Ian,
      I had to look up the actual editing file but the song is "Ricketts Glen" by Roy Williams.
      I don't know if it's out there somewhere, I got it from Epidemic-sound.
