Tony Stark The manifold is not restricting hp. The Boss engine makes more hp than the GT because it has hotter cams. This is the reason it peak at 7500 rpm.
not so right, sometimes the end of the straw is restricted by the beginning. Just watch alle the Opel/Vauxhall engines until 2009, the maximum air in the cylinders were restrictetbei the intakemanifolder, by just changing it you gain 10hp on a 90hp engine. So its also possible that a manifolder is restricted by the throttlebody or the intake but there is no guarantee, its allways depends on the engine, how good or bad its designed, some gain a little hp, probably more with a tune, some lose hp and some are not effected at all. Its just a try and error game where evryone profit from the tests of other ;)
That's some excellent advice. Over here in Germany, most people in the V6 scene go for CAI as a first mod and a BBK throttle body because they think those are the easiest go-to mods for better performance. Thank's to you I know that's BS.
Have you seen the video where the sky puts a VA throttle body on a 3.7 2012 V6 Mustang and they sell adapter plates for it to fit what do you think about that
I might be biased but Steeda makes the best CAI for the 3.7. I have one and the sound is awesome! The diameter of the tube where the mass air flow sensor is also larger than factory which requires a tune. I have it paired with a BBK throttle body and I will be getting the intake manifolds ported. This combo with a tune should theoretically yield the most benefit if any at all. On the exhaust side, I have BBK ceramic coated shorty headers.
I know this is late but I want that sound the CAI makes but I want to run other tunes. Is it worth it to buy cheap CAI (under $100) purely for sound or better to just keep the stock air filter in my 2015 3.7
I think it still makes better air flow than stock. Considering that the tune and calibration can be done to allow the CAI to do its job. Accufab and Steeda is the only way to go
I used to have a 2000 Corolla and before adding a cold air intake I had to drop two gears to go up a steep hill. After adding a cold air intake I only had to drop one gear.
Question, is there any performance increase to an older model such as a 2006 S197 Mustang V6 when adding air intakes? Or was your advice in general to all models not just ‘11+
Hi man. What should I do if I only want a deeper sound? Just for summer cruising and such. No drag racing or anything. What would be the easiest and cheapest solution? Thank you
The reason aftermarket cai's dont get much benefit is because the factory system is already up to par. From what I've learned and been told from numerous 3.7 owners who have had multiple CAI's, the airraid tube with leaving the stock airbox and getting a drop in filter is the best for keeping the coolest ambient air intake temps on the 3.7. gains Won't be much but they will be better than getting say a CAI like a BBK with a metal tube which can actually hurt HP numbers
I was really close to buying a cold air intake for my 3.7, but I actually came to the same conclusion you did about the stock air box being pretty well designed from the factory, and then I stumbled across your videos and channel that further confirmed that I wasn't the only one who felt the same about it. Could you give me your thoughts on throttle body spacers?
i put a CAI on my 07 mercedes c230 and it showed me a boost in performance, and i think the reason for that is the mercedes cars are built with their intakes facing the very front of the car not bent to the left or bent to the right in a closed area no u can literally stick your hand into the intake through the grill
i believe it. I was just talking about CAI's for 2010 + mustangs. Im sure its different for every car depending on how good the factory system already is.
Paper filter flow more than enough air for your engine to breath. Did you know ALL F150 use the same paper filter? From the 290 hp 3.3 v6 to the 450 hp 4.5 twin turbo v6. Stock air filters are no restrictive.
I have a cold air intake in my 2013 mustang 3.7 it has been a great add on for the sound wise performance I have to say it was great sound overall is the best from K&N
Yes you are right, there will not be a difference in amount of air bc the size of the “straw hole” is the same. BUT the reason why it’s called a “cold” air intake bc it’s blocking off the “hot” air fr the engine bay and sucks in “cold” air, the “cold” air is more compact than hot air, therefore more oxygen. There isn’t much of a difference but there is a little bit and paired with a tune, I think it’s worth it
On the topic of exhaust, what's your opinion on shorty headers and hi flow catted mid pipes? I live in California and there are strict emission laws preventing us from using long tubes. Paired with a tune, are BBK shorties and catted x pipe worth it?
Mike Escalera I have a 3.7 and plan on doing shorties with off road h pipe and just reverting to stock when I get my smog done. Then switch back to illegal lol
Oiled filters will take in more contaminates as the dry will filter less. Most people hate boiled because it messes up their sensors but if you oil it correctly and not over oil it you'll be fine
Will a Saleen S302 high flow air filter work I count find a high flow k&n filter on American muscle.com let me. The saleen one fits my car but let me know
i have the airaid intake tube and the K&N drop in air filter .... im glad i watched your vid cause i was about to change it out ..... but if i already have the best set up there is no need to change it ..... thanks for the info!
Im planing on getting borla atak cat back, xpipe, and driveshaft. Are these mods good? Im not looking to race or anything just want it to run smooth and loud. Should i also consider changing gears?
I'm Fluxed no because you can go buy the Cobra jet intake power up kit which gives you a wider tube that connects to a twin 65mm throttle body and comes with a massive cobra jet intake filter so I'd say the whole straw is wider at this point
A CAI or a short ram can definitely at 5 to 10 percent HP at full throttle (despite what the haters say), but it's got to be fabricated in a way that it gets good airflow, some cars are easy, you just open the vents up a little bit and put a cone filter in the middle of a grill that has air flowing through it, others cars the engine compartments or so cramped that is hard to to get a good setup without doing more extreme modifications.
Great video and info, thank you man you saved me money and up my performance. I'm gonna go with the airaid tube, bigger throttle body, upgrade the drop in filter and get new cat back exhaust system.
Short headers wont net you much power, if you go that route an offroad h pipe will be best for sound and power. Ultimate power increase on these cars would be longtube headers, offroad x pipe. Axlebacks are purely sound (you dont net power from them) mac flow paths are great for a V8 rumbly type tone. On the more expensive side borla S types are the best sounding.
I had longtubes, offroad X pipe, and borla atak on mine. Plenty of 3.7's with different exhaust setups on this channel feel free to browse around and pick out what you like!
3SevenStangVids sounds good , what do you recommend if I went with the Borla Stinger S-Type Cat-Back Exhaust, what other set up would sound good with this? long headers and x Pipe too?
This just isnt true.. I have first hand seen the dyno gains on a v6 with a CAI, though its usually more around 5 to 6 HP it still works. With a tune you can see around 12 HP.. but yea thats with the tune lol . The same argument could be said about sucking air into a straw, but the tip of the straw is a lil flattened.. it wont get as much air as a opened up straw tip. I think that is what the CAI does.. it opens up the restricted flow from the factory box. What you are saying makes sense, but numbers dont lie lol
Frosty WoW Why are you lying? You watched the same fake dyno video i did. You want gain any hp from cai because you haven’t fix the problem. The cams are the reason the 3.7 don’t make more hp.
Never looked into that. It's funny the sole purpose of an air filter is to filter air yet everyone is like HOW MUCH HORSEPOWER lol . I don't know how i could figure this out
I've been hearing this. kinda piss me off lol yea its sounds good but i got a steeda cai New $400 bbk throttle body new $400 that's a high price for a little sound
well, I think the air filter out the box won't increase much horsepower because it'll observe hotter air than it inside the closed box. The air under the hood is hotter than air inside the closed box. well, that's what I think of
Dude you just made my night.... People like you that follow my videos and give me positive feedback is why I keep doing this.... Are you on these facebook groups ? ??
Appreciate your info MAN, I was planning to install Roush CAI mainly for the voice of it. Any Advice on what to add with it? because I really want it. And really appreciate your videos and hope you continue all the way, since you convinced me to go for a V6 instead of an ecoboost.
So your missing the point. It’s not bout the increase in the amount of air, but the amount of oxygen in the air. The colder the air the more oxygen molicule per cubic ( insert metric unit here). If you can drop the temp of the inlet air, you can get more fire from said inlet air, giving you a little bit of a boost. Cold Air Intakes work...if they are designed right.
Thanks for proving my point. The stock airbox on the 2010+ mustangs have lower ambient air temps than almost all aftermarket cold air intakes. Exactly why they are worthless
The content may be god's own truth, but I discount its credibility when delivered while driving and slurping coffee, with one or no hands on the wheel, while cussing out other drivers who are probably also drinking coffee and using their phones.
same operation as the 5.0 and 3.7 airbox , it's a cold air intake. The point of the video is that the stock airbox on the 3.7 and 5.0 are sufficient enough to bring in cool enough air efficiently compared to aftermarket cold air intakes that manufactures charge 300-400$ for.
There is nothing wrong with an open filter element as long as it is secured and insulated away from engine temperatures. Most aftermarket cold air intakes can do this well, some don't. The factory 3.7 and 5.0 airbox already serve as a cold air intake system. If you read forums 5.0 guys will tell you they took their aftermarket CAI's off because they performed worse.
Bitemehard Hard the gt350 also has a different style intake manifold, and is a flat plane crank. This video is not referring to intake setups on all cars read the the title. Also if you noticed i talked about intake manifolds in the video and how that will change the effect of adding things like an aftermarket CAI and throttle body.
they suck in hot stagnant air and road shit and dust and do nothing except let ya hear the induction noise..ya better off keeping ya stock box put in a better filter and spend ya money on a better duct to the airbox so ya get cleaner cooler air..cooler air = more oxygen . more oxygen = more power. I been spouting the better ducting to the stock air box for a long time after seeing some Hondas with ultra nasty intakes and valves and pistons from having CAI's sucking in every nasty particle from the road and hot air. never mind the higher oil and coolant temps which pushes ya cooling fans a bit more. Also a lot of people don't think about ya stocky pistons and rings and valves when ya doing mods that if the crowns are caked with cabon and the incoming air temps are sky high that's not good for the pistons making them heavier and out of balance and causing crank bearings to not last as long
Jimmy Cassidy through my own testing and HUNDREDS of 3.7 owners(which will testify if youre in the facebook groups) will tell you cai's do not give noticeable gains on 3.7 mustangs. You think i just make this shit up for a video? I did my research and talked to ALOT of people with these cars. The ones who know their shit will tell you just like i did
Can't say I noticed a power difference with just the jlt intake but, I do have to disagree with you on the throttle body. I did put the 90mm tb on mine and the difference in hp and torque was waaaay different. And let me add it was way different before doing the mpt tune. So I respectful will say at least on my own personal 3.7 you are wrong. But hey it's all experiment end of the day
@3sevenstangvids So much cheaper than the 73mm bbk. All you have to do is buy the adapter. And then grind down the fins that are in the opening to the intake manifold with a drimel
Hes right they do nothing. The only real gains you get are from the tube on how its shaped. Use paper fram filters not k&n. Heres why they are accually more restrictive and weigh more due to the material its made out of to last. It comes with an oil coating that clog map sensors and collect dirt slowing performance over time. Its a monumental waist of time. You want power accually cool the intake air temps with 1 a killer chiller system or intercoolers. Ice boxes work for coolant temps that helps to. Other than that the CAI is just there to make sounds. If you cool the air the molecules shrinking them meaning a cubic foot of air at 90 degrees is way less dence than air at 40 degrees by over half meaning the volume of air coming in is double that of hot temps meaning more power can be packed in to a single detonation as more oxigen is burned at 1 time with the same effort making more power. A lot of parts are like this designed to do a better job than the engeneers who spent years of time and money perfecting shit. There is only 1 problem with this and that is budget vs longevity vs profit depending on the manufacture but when going fast your probably going to go with a relatively fast car to begin with as it is less shit you have to buy and install but can be more expencive in the long run.
Lol I have done upgraded throttle body and aftermarket cai on my 5.0. And Idk whats wrong with your car, but my car pulls a lot harder. More torque. Ran faster on the strip. So they do add power, not just for looks and sound.
This video is for 3.7L mustangs, however i did mention about my 5.0. What did you run at the track ? I had stock everything just a tune and midpipe and I outran and out mph'd by buddies 5.0 with a CAI, 90mm TB, Boss intake, 4.10 gears, offroad x pipe and tune by 2 mph and .2. When i installed my airraid i lost 1.5 mph and a tenth in the 1/4 mile, and this was judged over 6 or 7 consistent passes. I know the PMAS benefits the coyote but an airraid sure as hell doesnt. I ran 12.1 @ 116.5 mph in my auto 5.0 stock everything just tune and midpipe while my buddy was running 12.3 @ 114
so you are saying a tune required intake like the JLT doesn't improve power?...I'll respectfully disagree. now if you have a POS non tune required intake airaid k&n etc. then yeah it's worthless...
Daniel Glenn i am. Ive tracked my 5.0 with and without and there was no performance gain. Car ran its fastest time last year on a stock airbox. The reason you need a "tune" for a CAI is not for more "power" its because the MAF readings are too different from stock and need to be adjusted to avoid the car running lean. Go ahead and let the intake manufactures continue to fool you. Your money not mine.
If the cold air intake doesn't require a tune , then it's probably no better than stock . I haven't seen a cold air intake for the 3.7 which requires a tune . I guess Ford did a better job on the 3.7 intake . Sorry aftermarket Co.'s .
Mel Amador WOW ! , that's kinda freaky , that's what is on my Stang . I promise you , on an 05 GT , a Steeda C.A.I. and a 93 tune makes a very big difference. If you put a good C.A.I. on without a tune , the 05 Mustang G.T. will go into safe mode and barely go above idle .
They're definitely not worth the $300+ but I bought one without knowing so there you go. If you have a way to enclose the CAI with the top lightly sealed so air is forced mostly into the filter instead of some over it, you do notice a little gain compared to the factory airbox. This is especially noticed on the hills where hp is used more. On a straight line no hills I've noticed the factory airbox is just a tad better but not by much.
You might possibly maybe pick up 2-3 hp above 5500rpm just because of a velocity difference of the material but otherwise the Ford stock box is the best for all rpm range use. The Air raid does use the stock ford CAI set up and seals against the hood to minimize IAT rising from engine heat, but it’s still not really noticeable power, but the intake noise alone may be worth it to some(like me lol 🤓😝!)...
Bitemehard Hard ive seen it. They tested on an s2000. This video applies to 2011+ s197's. If you research it this information is accurate, minus my opinion on the airraid tube
Throttle body has to match the intake. Hence Boss manifold vs GT Manifolds vs GT350 manifold vs Cobrajet manifold. the straw example was right on the money. I see people buying a bigger throttle body and they have no idea that they are still restricted by the damn manifold.
I'd give you 10 thumbs up for that comment if I could
Tony Stark The manifold is not restricting hp. The Boss engine makes more hp than the GT because it has hotter cams. This is the reason it peak at 7500 rpm.
not so right, sometimes the end of the straw is restricted by the beginning. So That's A No For My 2014 Ford Mustang V6 3.7.L ???
I might be biased but Steeda makes the best CAI for the 3.7. I have one and the sound is awesome! hey just wondering , how csn I put s turbo on my 2003 3.7 mustang? a list of parts?, cheap ways of building one.
@VoRtExh3LL it’s done all the time. There’s a video on here of a twin turbo’d S550 Mustang.

Ik this is an old video but do cold air intakes make a better mod for s550 instead of the s197... really would appreciate it thank you
I think Im late but yea for sure since the S550 is a better version
What intake do y’all recommend for a 2010 v6 mustang ?
In addition, how about a Procharger, when it pushes air....
I'm on speaking for naturally aspirated setups only.
Thank you

Can i get a throttle body for my v6 3.7 and do a tune after ?
I was really close to buying a cold air intake for my 3.7, but I actually came to the same conclusion you did about the stock air box being pretty well designed from the factory, and then I stumbled across your videos and channel that further confirmed that I wasn't the only one who felt the same about it. Throttle body spacers are pointless as well. Thanks for watching !
spacers are only good for carbs..there oginal purpose was for more volume and better metering and fual atomization
TheDman216 Bull, they were made to make money from people who don’t know how to increase hp.
What is a paper filter drop in ?
i put a CAI on my 07 mercedes c230 and it showed me a boost in performance, and i think the reason for that is the mercedes cars are built with their intakes facing the very front of the car not bent to the left or bent to the right in a closed area no u can literally stick your hand into the intake through the grill

What kind of 1/4 mile time you make with your Pony?? 12 ish???=) Thanks
my 5.0 or the 3.7?
Give me both times =) How many HP they have?? Thanks=)
what did that stang at the strip have on it?
I have the Air raid tube with the K&N ford racing drop in filter. And I did pick up better throttle response.
Just got the drop in filter, think I should get the tube?
Godzukidan No you didn’t. You just wasted money on fruitless parts.
jtdecker1 No and return the filter. Until you change the cams or boost the engine. You want feel any power increase.
@@blackericdenice I needed to replace an old paper one anyway and that's definitely down the road just doing little things yanno

What type of exhaust setup you got for your 3.7L bro??
More air in.... with tune JlT how could it not gain any?
would a cai be worth it on a s550 v6 if i have ported intakes + bigger throttle body????
Will a Saleen S302 high flow air filter work I count find a high flow k&n filter on American muscle.com let me. The saleen one fits my car but let me know
Or will a regular k&n air filter work
I have a new edge 3.9L v6 the SR CAI is on sale for 75 should I go for it ?
for that model yes. Cold air intakes didnt become revised untill 2010
i have the airaid intake tube and the K&N drop in air filter .... im glad i watched your vid cause i was about to change it out ..... but if i already have the best set up there is no need to change it ..... thanks for the info!
Swap to an aFe drop in filter if you really want to do something.
This is the man that influenced part of me to make this video... Jordan is the shit
Hey BIGBABYKAVE44 did you have a turbo sound
Jordan Cortina did you get an oiled or dry filter
The dyno results on knfilters . com don't mention being (paired with a tune.) How do you explain their power gains?
*crickets*
Im planing on getting borla atak cat back, xpipe, and driveshaft. Are these mods good? Im not looking to race or anything just want it to run smooth and loud. Should i also consider changing gears?
Alejandro Covarrubias I would go with an h pipe instead bro tbh
Air raid or nothing. It uses the factory mounting. I bought mine just for the sound, but feels better above 5k rpms. It’s your money 💰.
Putting CAI on a 3.7 want increase hp because the stock intake is not restrictive. All F150 engines use the same air filter.
Does this straw example principle apply for v8s as well?
I'm Fluxed no because you can go buy the Cobra jet intake power up kit which gives you a wider tube that connects to a twin 65mm throttle body and comes with a massive cobra jet intake filter so I'd say the whole straw is wider at this point
did you try a steeda? the only intake that requires a new tune, sure made my 3.7 faster when i just put the intake and tune, my first mod i done
www.mustangevolution.com/forum/f356/t373422/
That3.7Mustang not one of the 7 or 8 fastest 3.7's i know run a steeda intake or tune

I like the added sound with a cai,I do notice a slight increase in throttle response tho.
what about bama tunes do they add power??? on 3.7s
Seth Snead Go MPT, Bama is known to make crappy tunes for the 3.7, and MPT is praised in the community.
MPT... Bama has proven they can not maximize the power of the 3.7 the way MPT can
This just isnt true.. I have first hand seen the dyno gains on a v6 with a CAI, though its usually more around 5 to 6 HP it still works. is it true that aftermarket CAI filters don't filter the dirt as good as the stock filter?
Never looked into that. It's funny the sole purpose of an air filter is to filter air yet everyone is like HOW MUCH HORSEPOWER lol . I don't know how i could figure this out

And really appreciate your videos and hope you continue all the way, since you convinced me to go for a V6 instead of an ecoboost.
lmao im here in the same boat 😂
So your missing the point. It’s not bout the increase in the amount of air, but the amount of oxygen in the air. The colder the air the more oxygen molicule per cubic ( insert metric unit here). If you can drop the temp of the inlet air, you can get more fire from said inlet air, giving you a little bit of a boost. Cold Air Intakes work...if they are designed right.
Thanks for proving my point. The stock airbox on the 2010+ mustangs have lower ambient air temps than almost all aftermarket cold air intakes. Exactly why they are worthless
even on a close box aftermarket CAI, AIT's are still 5-10 degrees warmer than the factory airbox
The content may be god's own truth, but I discount its credibility when delivered while driving and slurping coffee, with one or no hands on the wheel, while cussing out other drivers who are probably also drinking coffee and using their phones.
greatest comment of the year right here
Old vid but whats the song in the background lol
ok, so why does the GT350 have an open CAI?
same operation as the 5.0 and 3.7 airbox , it's a cold air intake.
Also a lot of people don't think about ya stocky pistons and rings and valves when ya doing mods that if the crowns are caked with cabon and the incoming air temps are sky high that's not good for the pistons making them heavier and out of balance and causing crank bearings to not last as long
TheDman216 glad someone else agrees with me. Thanks for the comment
What about a 2006?
Yes that will improve the cars performance. Up to the 2009 model year
@@3SevenStangVids awesome. Thank you for the feed back
You were driving on lincoln highway in Matteson, IL in this video
Jonathon Mirabal how did u know lol
Thats where i do alot of my vids, are you local?
3SevenStangVids yeah, I take that road to work everyday. Got a 2012 mustang myself.
Jonathon Mirabal thats awesome i probably have seen u. What color is yours
Jonathon Mirabal im in the black 3.7 with blue mpt decals on the window
damn dude I was literally a week away from getting a JLT CAI and a throttle body... omg 😂 well damn pass, BUT I will be getting 4.10 gears for my 13v6
Estio504 hit up tbbuilt performance for some ported intakes.... more pawahhhhh
Estio504 good choice on the gears, that's the best bang for buck you can do!
the best way i've found making a mustang faster is when i dropped a 351 Cleveland with 400 heads in my mustang
short answer- yes they do
Jimmy Cassidy pmas on the 5.0 does. Show me any data on the 3.7 that is not a link to a BBK JLT AIRRAID STEEDA product video
But hey it's all experiment end of the day
wait you put a 90mm throttle body on a 3.7?
what throttle body did you put on ?
i was only talking about the 73mm BBK
@@3SevenStangVids I'm sorry buddy mistype 80mm TB from a 2013 GT that I got for $40.
He said it runs better and added more horsepower and it didn't mess with his computer
I would still do it because more air is still better than less and they aren’t that expensive.
Once again, nice video man😎👍. Keep up the good work. Funny, i just brought a Volant CAI for my 2000 explorer sport (2 Door)
mighty car mods already busted the cold air intake myths
Get the cai and the bama tune it's worth it
rock70star Sais bama....
3SevenStangVids MPT for the win
Music was a lil 2 loud
so you are saying a tune required intake like the JLT doesn't improve power?...I'll respectfully disagree.
now if you have a POS non tune required intake airaid k&n etc. then yeah it's worthless...
3SevenStangVids oh so a track proven PMAS intake is worthless? lol k. 😂
Daniel Glenn i didnt say that about the pmas. That is the only cai i know of that is beneficial on the 5.0
3SevenStangVids JLT works as well on the 3.7 (only tune required intake for the 3.7) just saying. 👍
Daniel Glenn the airraid however is not
I just want a better sound
If the cold air intake doesn't require a tune , then it's probably no better than stock . I haven't seen a cold air intake for the 3.7 which requires a tune . I guess Ford did a better job on the 3.7 intake .
Sorry aftermarket Co.'s .
Guy Noir steeda is good bro
On a straight line no hills I've noticed the factory airbox is just a tad better but not by much.
nice how you wore the clutch at the end lool
im at 113k miles on this one, stock clutch and flywheel.. misses no shifts and runs great.
That was the best I have ever seen, true
Why is this guy stopped right fuckin next to me HAHA !!!
I hate when people do that !
Knowledge 👍
Good advice, thanks
Thanks man.
If you really Need a intake go to eBay
so basically cai are just for sound
Seth Snead Yeah basically. I don't race my car but the CAI sure does make it sounds nice ;) Can't say it feels any faster though haha
BBK CAI, BBK throttle body with, Flowmaster 40 series and BBK headers coming soon #StangGANG
bro whats the holdup? upload a vid im tryna do the same thing
Cool vid
Driving a mustang with a mopar jacket on 😂😂
only because i worked at dodge at the time lol
3:18 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
please see, Cold Air Intake Mythbusted by Mighty Car Mods.
Bitemehard Hard ive seen it. They tested on an s2000. This video applies to 2011+ s197's. If you research it this information is accurate, minus my opinion on the airraid tube
Theres been extensive testing on the 2011+ s197's that have proved no gains by swapping to an aftermarket cai
