Zinc melt- love it. Casts beautifully. I learned a quick way to see if what you have is zinc or not without having to burn it with a torch. Get some copper sulfate powder used for root removal from pipes, etc. Dilute a spoonful of it in water in a spray bottle. Take a file to your mystery metal and make a few scratches. Spray on the solution and if it turns black, it’s zinc. If it bubbles, it’s magnesium. If it does nothing, it’s aluminum. I use it and it’s a big help.

@@geegee8380 Oh wow, good to know. It takes the fun away of playing with fire, but probably good. 😂

I think the lighter bar had zamic in it. That is an alloy of aluminum and zinc. That makes it pour better and be lighter.

@@88clemoine That's when I melted rads - too much aluminum for that much copper. That was a shocker.

my guess is that some alloy got into your melt, and something oxidized while you poured it out? like solder without flux will bead up and not stick well to stuff. Hey I sent you an email, hoping you could do two thin skull coins for on the ends of my copper handrail I'm building for my front steps
