Great little ballast box... little tip when you're leveling your gravel use your bucket flat bottom use the back of your bucket put it on float once you get it roughed in. you won't end up with all them little Windrose comes out nice and smooth.. no down pressure you won't remove the material from your work area... keep up the good work Mike
Thanks for the video! I'm going to build this exact ballast box or barrel. Lol. I have 65 yards of loam to spread and the first 15 were scary on a hill! Thanks bud!
Great job on ur ballast weight. When I built mine I added some chain to the draw bar and fastened to some loops up by where the top link hooks to tractor. I raise the weight up, hook chains to the length I want, let it down and the weight hangs on the chain and not on the lift arms. Just for fyi. Yours looks good on the tractor and seems to hang just right. Thanks for the video and be safe!
Enjoyed the video. I am about to make a similar counter weight and will need your lessons-learned tips. I remember Joe saying something about the top link bending when raising the ballast. I think you mentioned something about making the top hook-up in your ballast a little bit closer (toward the tractor) to eliminate damage. Full watch....(late in the season but definitely a full-watch.......LoL) Have a good one.
Using the round barrel was a great idea compared to building a box. I would have left and filled the entire barrel w/ concrete, however, it would depend on the height measurements. Would have gave you a couple hundred more pounds of weight, maybe.
Liked your video! Gonna build one just like it. I am going to add one thing different. Going to add a tubing in so I can attach a Reese hitch so I can pull a trailer behind it. Gonna have to paint it green though, couldn't afford Kubota LOL.
How much weight would be enough? I saw your counterweight making video, great idea, I’m in search of optimal and most compact yet easily removable ballast.
Good morning Alexander, I am not sure what the "ideal" amount would be but the one I built weighs 500 pounds and works really well. Thanks for watching.
Good video. I'm planning a similar build for my JD 445. Did you find this was enough weight? My tractor is smaller and I'm considering the same amount of concrete. Thanks, Jody.
Awesome 👍👍
Great bunch of videos. I have the same problem with tipping and had a similar idea for a counter weight. Your videos were very helpful, thanks.

Hey hey Robert. Thanks for watching and commenting I really appreciate it. It was a fun build.
Hey Robert do you have a video of your ballast weight with the chains?
Maybe add some reflective tape.

Excellent project and well done!! Liked !!

I was shooting for 500lbs thats why I cut it to the size it is. It is more than enough. Thanks for watching.
