Thanks for your video. I am a 28, 35, and 50mm Shooter. When the Q3 43 was released, I remembered my love for the Q2, gave in to my degrading eye sight, sold my M11 and lenses, and bought a Q3 and Q3 43. The two cameras cover my most used focal lengths and I can again, enjoy focus peaking plus a great EVF (when in manual) and the autofocus.
Regarding cropping I completely agree, that it won‘t do. The problem is, and many youtubers do not seem to understand is, that focal length are about field of view, but even more so about depth. Depth with a 28 is noticeably deeper than with a 43, which on the other hand has a much higher compression. Going back and forth changes nothing about this very important fact and consequences for the look of the resulting pictures.

Great video! I have been torn between the Q3 28 vs 43 to the point where I’m ready to get a Sony system with the 28-70 f2. But I really love the Leica menu and button placements and I want a versatile smaller footprint camera. I shoot mostly family and friends and having the wide angle is helpful from time to time but I think in the end the 43’s DoF wins. LR can blur but it’s just not the same actual lens bokeh.

$6000 was a lot for a camera. I was lucky to get one at the Leica dealer because the supply has always been hard to come by. I can't see buying the Q4 because I can stop up to 35, 50, 75, 90. It's one focal length. Yes you lose mega pixels but if you shoot raw you still can recover the full 60. I'm not paying $6000 more. Love my Q3. Leica holds its value and the photos keep getting better and better. Will continue to enjoy my "foot in the sand" investment in of my unbelievable Leica.

Great comparison video. I recently purchased my Q3 28mm last month, and love everything about the camera. I also have a Canon 5D mark IV, along with a full kit of Canon L-glass, that I’ve been shooting with since 2019. Most of my everyday, travel, portrait, and event shooting, is with my Canon 5D mark IV and my Canon L 24mm -70mm f2.8 or my Canon L 24mm - 105mm f3.5. So, for me, the Leica Q3 28mm (including the crop capability to 90mm) fits well into 90% of my photography interests. Adding the Q3’s 60mp full frame sensor, really seals my preference for the Leica Q3 28mm system. Now I’m seriously considering selling my entire Canon Kit, and focusing on all of my photography to be done with the Leica Q3 28mm system.

Thanks Florian, a very nice video as a Q3 owner, I found this interesting. I believe what you did was to find a composition and first take it with the Q3 43 and then took an image from the same spot with the Q3. I think the flaw in this is that you composed for the 43 first which would naturally gives a bias for the 43. Just a thought! 😁
Well done with the channel! Using the Q3 has made me consider an M11, unfortunately nowhere in Ireland to get to try one out. Very curious to try and understand focusing with a range finder

Using a (real) rangefinder will require to relearn photography (to some degree). It is completely different and rewarding (to some). Currently, after selling my M11-P and switching to 2 Q3, I have to relearn or at least get to know again, how to use an EVF and to rely on autofocus. Very often I switch to manual, especially for street photography.

Great Video, I owned the Q3-28 for a couple of Months, On my 1st day of going out to shoot with the Camera, I found myself walking 3.5 miles and literally taking pictures of everything, On my 2nd day of shooting, I walked 5+ Miles doing the same thing, not realizing how far I actually walked (thank you Apple Watch). I love my Q3-28, but do feel that sometimes the range is a little wide, to make a long story short, I've talked myself into an excuse for purchasing the Q3-43 which is currently on back order from B&H Camera. I can only hope that the Q3-43 is as good as the Q3-28, I'm sure that you can't go wrong with either Camera

I have a Q3 28 that I got before the Q3 43 hit the market. However, 28 mm has always been my standard lens since I walked the streets of Lund, Sweden with my then Olympus OM4 Ti and a 28 mm lens. So, I feel very much at home with the Q3 28. As a bonus, the 28 mm allows you to use a UV filter and the original lens hood at the same time :-)

Thanks for this. Only recently did I decide I wanted to add to my Sony RX1 (35mm)... have placed an order for the 43, but it is on back order for 2 months, so every day I debate whether to get the 28 instead (or even the M11), or stay with my 43 order. After watching this, I'm now even more torn what to do... probably the smart thing to do is just keep using the RX1... but I have an itch to buy another camera after 12 years. When I first got the RX1 the 35mm focal length felt very wide to me, but after all these years I am pretty comfortable with it. Option B, get the 43 now and hope the Q4 is a 28mm APO Summicron, then get that.

Then I saw a comparison between the Nikon Zf with the Q3 43 and the similarities in the outcome of both stopped my, insane, initial thoughts 😊 But the Q3 43 is still resounding in my head… Why did they do that? 😊 Why now and not a few months back? 😊 But we are right, the 28mm is far more challenging and in the end I believe it will help me better in taking photos… Keep sharing 😊

Nice comparison. Worth mentioning that you can crop the 28mm f/1.7 to a 43mm f/2.6 equivalent with 23 Megapixels. Perspective is exactly the same when you don’t change the distance to your subject. So if the larger depth of field does not bother you and 23 MPx are enough, just enjoy your 28mm, which is more universal.

I was coming to a similar conclusion as you and was also considering that I would use my other camera(s) to shoot with other focal lengths for sure. But I have also considered (as I'm able to afford it) keeping both and actually using the two for my travel bag alone. Otherwise I would take my Q3 28 with my Zf and a 50 f1 and 24-120 f4 as my full travel kit. Will you be getting the 43 and keeping both? Sounds like you might.

So would I. This is not a battle of two great cameras. It is a discussion about focal length. It is far more challenging to shoot at 28mm than 43, and hence, I love it. It has opened my eyes to new projects, a new way of seeing things, that would not have happened if I was shooting at 'normal'. Ten years ago, my favourite lens was the Fuji 35mm (equiv 50mm), then I progressed to the 23mm (35). Q cameras are fantastic but you feel more as a photographer in control when shooting a “real” Leica. Just my opinion - However, if you crop a 35 mm lens to 43 mm, what would be the factor to put on the pixel count in order to crop to the same width?

The 28 can do most of what the 43 does, except at the furthest telelens crop (75-135) but the 43 simply cannot do what the 28 does. Simple fact that would guide my choice if I could afford either. And, no, carrying both would defeat the whole purpose…😊
