OPEN WATER: NEW BRITAIN, PAPUA NEW GUINEA (August 26th - Sept 2nd, 2023)

After spending over a week in mainland Papua New Guinea we flew from Port Moresby to Hoskins in the Island of New Britain for our scuba diving adventure(our trip was booked with Undersea X). From the small airport in Hoskins we traveled close to 1 hour to arrive to Walindi Resort located in Kimbe Bay (West New Britain Province). We embarked the MV Oceania liveaboard and for the next 9 days we cruised in MV Oceania able to dive in areas including Father's Reef and Witu Islands. New Britain is the largest island in the Bismarck Archipelago, part of the Islands Region of Papua New Guinea. It is located in the coral triangle, the centre of marine biodiversity, which has the highest diversity of tropical fish and coral in the world. Other interesting facts about this island is that the indigenous people fall into two main groups: the Papuans, who have inhabited the island for tens of thousands of years, and the Austronesians, who arrived around three thousand years ago. There are around ten Papuan languages spoken and about forty Austronesian languages, as well as Tok Pisin and English.
