Hello one question do i put the external hard drive back in the box with the Protection Plastic is good? And put it some where that is safe and no Pressuring the drive ( no materials putting against the drive)
2 late for me unfortunately. One of my 2TB EHD might have bad sectors after a messy restart I did the other day. I've been trying to access the files in it ever since and it makes any software trying to access it go unresponsive until I unplug the drive. It even crashes the Safely Remove widget in the taskbar Dropup arrow on Windows 10. Incredibly regretful rn.
This one is a tricky fix. Has to be opened and looked at by a professional who has experience in HDD repair and recovery. I've done it successfully in the past using a replica drive to move the optical disc over to it on a 3.5" HDD but the process is even a little outside my own skill set to be honest. If you do take it to a place that specializes in this makes sure you are clear with them that you will only be willing to pay if results are achieved which in most cases, I think is fair. I've heard of places charging ridiculous money for no results which in this industry is just bad practice in my own opinion. 🙏
same here, i also have the exact same hard drive and same noise and the hard drive dropped from the ground and has around 800gb of important files and memories, i'd do ANYTHING to recover this😢😢😢 i hope there's a fix for this...
I have a Toshiba hard drive and my problem is whenever the drive is moved a tiny bit it gets disconnected from the laptop? Is that a cable problem or a common thing in hard drives? Which do you think is better Toshiba or WD?
Could likely be a cable issue? Does it happen on different USB ports? Toshiba vs WD is a tough one. Toshiba is Japanese made so the quality is more likely to be there on different models. For WD I would only recommend the WD Ultra drives and not the Passport one shown in this video. Hope this helps my friend. 🙏
@TechInsomnia I actually didn't try different USB ports so I'm gonna try and tell you. By USB ports you mean the ones in laptops, etc, right? I know it's a silly question but English isn't my native language so I sometimes struggle with the terms.
I like WD Ultra and the newer SanDisk G-Drive. Both Type-C and both reliable brands. The SanDisk has a silicone shell which is really nice for shock protection. Hope this helps my friend. 🙏
my 15 year old Extrenal WD makes this too, but only at start stop and sometimes. Its in perfect shape :DDDDDDDD (have another one yet, but it still working since 2009
Seen it happen with Seagate as well my friend. I've heard in the past that they're both made in the same factory but I'll have to open two one day and put that theory to the test. 🙏
No they are not…. I bought a sea gate barracuda 2tb. Don’t get me wrong it worked great, for 8-10 months then it took a crap on me and started clicking like here in the video. I bought another one of the exact brand and tb and unfortunately within 2 weeks of having it the same exact problem. Before you say it’s my hardware I had it tested on my cousins pc and it’s the hdd
I've had really good (luck?) with Seagate. One 750GB external purchased 10+ yrs ago, 1 4TB bought around 2017-ish, and a newer 4TB bought 2 yrs ago. All still working perfectly. Though I have been very careful with them. Popped a 2TB internal hdd in my buddy's PS4 many years ago now and even it still runs great, despite it making very odd loud beeps for a while and the PS4 itself being jostled around and even dropped once while running lol. I stick by Seagate. Mechanical drives in essence are just prone for failure eventually. To some extent I assume it's just a gamble with time.
Nope, seagate is worst. I have 3 of them from 13 years ago, 1 dead (320 GB) which actually rarely i used it (RIP at 2020), 1 is on critical condition with a lot bad sector (500 GB, random corrupt file), and 1 is got many bad sector (1 TB, i just give it to my sister lol, 3 years ago, the speed already drop a lot). But my wd, all of them still kicking and fine, even i used it travels and get quite shake on it, i bought it at 2011 for 2 TB model. But still old model of seagate is still good if we compare it to recent model.
I personally like to use fans. USB powered ones and chargeable fans. All adjustable to an extent. If you have a desktop with single or dual top exhaust fan you can place it there and plug it in directly to the motherboard at the rear of the computer. I’ve always liked to use them during long data transfers and also if I’m playing a video file off it or accessing a real-time active file. Whenever the drive is working for longer than a 10-15 minutes it’s good idea to put some air on it and use CrystalDisk to see if your efforts are keeping the operating temps lower. The lower you can keep the temps on average, the longer the drive will last and the healthier it will run. 💯 This is all just in my experience but I hope it helps my friend. 🙏
Hii please respond to my question, I have a external hard disk drive Seagate Game Drive PS4. In which I have installed all my heavy Plugins, when used it heats. How to fix heating problem, I'm afraid that my data don't get loss
Try to always have a fan on it when using it to keep it operating at a cooler temperature. Something like this but any fan will do. amzn.to/3n2hX5E Hope this helps my friend 🙏
I know this is an old Video but my seagate hard drive Honks when i turn on the console. I never dropped it and I bought it from GameStop a few months back.
This sound comes when the cable is bad, just yesterday i got this issue and tried the cable on another drive it didnt work. And wthe drive making such sounds worked fine with another cable
If you are looking for long term reliability is Toshiba Canvio the best?. I've had 6 of them and they never failed. The problem I have is they advertise 4tb of storage but you only get 3.6tb
Depending on your requirements both can be good in different scenarios. For more storage at a better price with less read and write speed, HDD. For a read and faster transfer rate with less storage space at a similar or higher price point, SSD. What will you mainly be using your external for my friend? 🙏
It's possible but not likely. I'm not saying it can't happen but it would likely be more in file allocation or boot or volume record error type way. If the drive is already in the type of state it's in tho, plugging and unplugging can sometimes get the volume to show up or initialize inside of a Data Recovery program and if you can keep the drive on and mounted, maybe have enough time to recover and extract it. It's hard to say because every drive and situation is different. Over the Years with all computers I repair and work on I always try to eject or unmount external drives before unplugging. 🙏Just a general good practice.
I have the same brand, same model, and even same color, but I do have 4TB. it has having same issue. Loading was slow so I transfer the data immediately. I dunno if I should buy again with the same brand
I recant my previous statement. Older model Seagate externals are good IME. Ran a drive test via CrystalDiskInfo shortly after leaving my comment above and found that my 10+ yr old 750GB external has a C05 caution (understandable due to age), and my newer 4TB BackupPlus drive (2 yrs old) has C05 and C06 errors. Most likely due to the stiff cable it's shipped with. Or me pressing my hand on it while it was under load to see if it was building up heat... Or using USB3.0 for large file transfers for the first time?? And/or using a USB3.0 extension cable while doing so - potentially causing a lack of sufficient power? idk. It's on it's way out tho. The 8 or so yr old 4TB I have reports as good though. It has the long led indicator and the silver logo on the corner. Came with a flexible cable as well and has seen moderate to heavy usage over the years. Still on Amazon, but a bit pricier than newer models. I suppose mechanical HDDs are just a gamble. Never know if certain companies just toss barely passable or defective drives with bad blocks reallocated and SMART status removed into their enclosures to minimize their financial losses.
So mine is also making that noise and I opened it up on my own I can confirm that the control arm is indeed stuck on the disk, how do you think I can put the control arm back to where it belongs?
Only proven method I've ever preformed that had a 7/10 success rate was to find or buy the identical drive working or new and open both in a particle free environment. Once both open, remove the optical disk from the working drive and move the optical disk form the malfunctioning drive to the new one. 💯 Works well but it's harder than it sounds. Hope this helps my friend 🙏
There are guides on how to move the write heads back on here, but mainly for larger 3.5 hdds. Portables slide about so you might need someone to help even if it's possible to move it back, or better yet take it to an indy repair shop
I have seen a few videos where people pop the top off and rotate the platters in a certain direction to get the arm locked back into place. Just prepare to lose the data or for it to fail sooner than later even if you do succeed. You can also form a sort of makeshift dust-free environment with a gallon sized ziplock bag - or better yet a static-free bag.
I'm 16 and not very smart with this type of stuff, I got an external hard drive for christmas to help with storage (mainly for the sims 4, there was nothing IMPORTANT on there except for my save files and cc, but still), I haven't dropped it ever, but today it started making that noise and now it wont show up on my laptop..i've only had it a few months, am I doomed?
I’ve got an extended storage the same one as that black one at the back (forgot what it was called, doesn’t have a name on it, just the symbol) I dropped it and it’s not working anymore, this happened today, don’t know what to do (not making any sounds, still turns on, and vibrates whenever I connect it indicating that it’s working/ connected)
This is inevitable, really. Especially on these bus powered drives. Safely storing while traveling does-help, though. If portability is the goal, I’d advise everyone to stay away from these drives if it’s within budget. You’d be better off w/ any cheap 2.5SSD + SATA3 to USB connector. Try a fresh cable my friend. Even one from a different drive. That’s the first thing I would do. Plug it to a PC so if there are errors it might find them and fix them. If a volume pops up after that you should be good. Eject and plug to your PlayStation and see what happens. 🤞
I have a question about external harddrives? When i use a external harddrive for a ps5 should i unplug it after i turn off my ps5 or keep it plugged in?
This is a good question. Does your external have a light on it what lights up when power is on and blinks when reading or writing data? If it does and the light stays on after you power off the PS5, I would unplug because the light symbolizes that the external is receiving power and on/ready. Same thing happens on most laptops when you sleep them or shutdown and the external is still plugged in. Over time this will age the external unnecessarily in my experience/opinion. 🙏
