I was a bit critical before - so here I go again! Glad that you didn't rehearse this before as you made some very good pointers as you went along. And so performing the same actions may have resulted in some very relevant but overlooked tips. For example, when outdoors vehicle requires close proximity of the operator. Therefore, I apologize for the first posting. Tutorial well done!
Thank you for creating this video, all with the drone footage and screen in screen. After watching your video I now know what I can expect from this system. You saved me a lot of time and nerves. Thanks man!!
Good to see this, James. When I bought my first LEAF Tekna (40) in April 2017 I paid extra for the self-parking feature. I'm ashamed to admit that I haven't used it, other when collecting the car. Your demonstration shows just why I was afraid to use it. I'm currently awaiting my second LEAF Tekna (62) without this feature. One benefit of having this fitted is to 'retrieve' your car if it has been hemmed in by others, ("if feature available"). Keep up the good work :-)
I dont think I would have used it if i wasn't making this video. It does have the car retrival which I can see myself using more than the self parking.
In Lincoln there is a multi storey that has incredibly small bays where the passengers have to get out before you park and then even I as the driver struggle to get out of my 3 series... I can't wait to try this out when my I5 arrives! Then I can pull it forward remotely too and not have to worry about squeezing in and out next to other cars and huge concrete pillars!! Great video, keep it up.
Nice James, however like most of these PA systems, they are really useless in everyday use. If you were in a busy lot, you would have honking cars and screaming people yelling at you as how long it took to park. I'm not picking on the Hyundai system, just all of these systems in general. Great if you have the space and time to do it, however by the time you push the button the first time, I would already be in the parking spot. Now for the "remote" parking, same it is dreadfully slow and takes too many turns and moves to do a simple task. However, for pulling out of a spot where someone parked close to you and you don't want to ding doors, etc., this would be a handy feature. Sorry but this is the reason why I am not at all a fan of these Park Assist (PA) systems.
Evening James, thanks for the upload. The car seems to park as slowly as most of the other offerings on the market do. Still a nice feature to have. I look forward to seeing how you can use the Ionic to power external electrical devices. InsideEVs recently charged a Taycan using a Kia EV6. You could charge the Kona.🙂
The V2L/V2V option is one of the best thing. I'm currently running all my camera gears so i dont need to bring backup batteries etc. but yes will have to find some things to plug into the car for another video.
Every video I've seen of the Ioniq 5 it makes that awful noise when the brakes (parking brake) gets released, please tell me it doesnt do it all the time
Possibly more of use to larger drivers, or those with disabilities, who may not be able to exit the car without opening the door fully which isn't always possible if other vehicles are not central to their space.
I live in older house that was built in 1960's and the garage that came with it is quite small for car sizes of today. With remote parking i can get out of my car outside the garage and then remote park it to small garage!
@The Bandit, Off the top of my head I can think of two scenarios. When you come back you suddenly notice that either car on both sides of yours are way too close for you to ingress your vehicle. #2 You come home and your assigned parking space cannot be used because both cars on either side are partially over their lines - but you know that your car can fit without you so problem is solved minus a huge fine due to probably parking elsewhere!
Thanks for the demo. How is it in normal suburban shopping centre car parks (parking between cars & getting out)? Also, does it make a low speed noise for safety? Our BMW i3S makes this weird spaceship noise to freak people out. It's hilarious! Initial orders start here in Australia 11/10.
It can be a little tight due to the size my new video will show this. As for the noise yes it has an erie sound at low speed and beeping when reversing. :)
Hi James, can you demonstrate IONIQ 5 Battery Heat pump Winter Mode, when, why, and how as you live in Scotland and are probably already using this feature. Many thanks in advance! Mike P45 Brighton (Winter is coming)!
The winter mode battery heat pump kicks in when its under -5c so we’ll need to wait a few months in the depths of winter to hopefully make a video if this kicking in.
Actually the final position in the first parking example was pretty good; after all the baby blue car was not well centered in the space. Had that car been centered, I'm guessing the first trial would also have been centered. Too much back and forth for me though.
It should stop i stuck my leg out as a test before and the car stop. Didn't want to stand behind it as running myself over on video might not be the smartest of ideas lol
Funny how the design goal of this function probably is to maintain ease of mind of the owner that has to park this *massive* car in a busy situation with lots of other cars and impatient pedestrians around, while at the same time it pisses more people off when it’s used in such situations, because it behaves so slow and awkward.
if you go over the line in some car parks then you are incorrectly parked in the lines and can be fined by the car parking company. it should be looking for lines other cars can do it and faster and much better i would be very worried about letting the car park if that's how long it takes
Tried this yesterday, its OK but damn it's slow. The next time someone bangs on about autonomous cars remember any car capable of parking is like this and you have to keep aware. Full self driving is soo.... far off. Good video James, have you had the sensor/camera warnings bug pop up on screen yet while out and about?
Good that you showed this but bay parking is really poor, parallel looks ok. In both instances I reckon a half competent driver would do a more accurate and quicker job. Not for me thanks 😊
Guaranteed to earn you a parking ticket in a paid car park. NCP will fine you for a space which you partially occupy without paying for the extra ticket.
That is, referring to the first time it parked. There are issues with self-parking in Britain. I live in an urban area in which the police instructed people to park with two wheels on the footpath. This is not uncommon. In many places, people have to park fully on verges. Therefore, automated parking is almost useless to many people.. 🙂👉 *If someone could invent a system which remembers how people park in certain areas, such as their home address, then that would be an extremely useful feature.* 👈🙂
Well in your cars defence whoever parked that Kona didn’t park properly either. It is not in the middle of the space. If it was the I5 would have parked better.
If you can’t park better than that then you need some training, I’ve had several cars ice and ev with park assist never used it, waste of money and time. Sorry James
a very stupid parking assistant who does a lot of unnecessary maneuvers, is extremely slow .... for how new this car is, it's a big disappointment .... will hyundai somehow update this system?
What a complete bodge job that was. Hyundai need to re programme this feature. Imagine a queue of cars waiting for the car to sort itself out, whats the point of having to walk beside it? You may as well be sitting inside ! Clearly trying to show off but Hyundai have completely failed here.

For anyone that's saying it's slow watching the last few seconds for my final conclusion at 08:55 What do I really think? 😄
I could actually see the gras growing while the car performed it’s magical parking…. Geez…
Would really like to see a tight parking space for parallel parking. It seems to take quite a bit of space.
on tighter spots it takes a few more forwards and backwards to get itself into place but does a decent job.
Nice James, however like most of these PA systems, they are really useless in everyday use. THanks for that James very entertaining . I will go out and give it a try tomorrow.
its worth learning even if you dont use it in the future.
Thanks for the update. Please keep the videos flowing. Very informative.
hoping to have a video up once a week as I only have the weekend to make content.
I can't wait to try that out. I totally suck at parallel parking.. I usually either need 5+ moves or scrape my rims on the sidewalk.
A little slow for my liking …. I will stick to the conventional way of parking.
definitly a nice party trick, I dont think i'll be using this system much myself.
Haven't seen that colour ioniq yet, very nice 👍
It's the Digital Teal Green Pearl, lovely shift in colour depending on the amount of sun light.
what will ioniq5 do if i don't touch the steering wheel even after the call .... stop at the side of the road?
Woah, did not expect an Asian guy at the end lol. Great demonstration video.
keep forgetting I've a Scottish accent 😂

Thanks for the video, now i know what i absolutely dont need&want.
I wish you could use the screen to just drag and drop where the parking space is and then get out and walk away.
Can't help but think it looks like a vw scirocco from this camera angle ?
Every video I've seen of the Ioniq 5 it makes that awful noise when the brakes (parking brake) gets released, please tell me it doesnt do it all the time
You can hear me pause when it happens, I'll need to look into that maybe i need to break it in?
We have a BMW i3S. Makes the same noise when the parking brake is being used on a slope. You get used to it.
Nice car and great demo but really cannot imagine use for remote key parking. Also lots of trust that it won’t go into software meltdown and crash.
It was good to demo it to show how to operate it. You definitly still have to be careful seeing it clipped the kerb 🙈
Possibly more of use to larger drivers, or those with disabilities, who may not be able to exit the car without opening the door fully which isn't always possible if other vehicles are not central to their space.

@@TheSamp00 humm I don't know, my Dad bought a huge '63 White Chevrolet Impala with all red interior and he never complained.

Honestly, this was the first and last time I used this feature, if I had to use it again I would have to rewatch my own video as a refresher course 😆
Is there a camping mode so that it stays on for the night with ac on?
Yes, there is, it’s called utility mode.
If the driver of the other vehicle had decided to get out of their car, would your car have stopped? Note - I'm not suggesting you test this!
It should stop i stuck my leg out as a test before and the car stop. Didn't want to stand behind it as running myself over on video might not be the smartest of ideas lol
that parking assist was like getting your 93 yr old grandpa to park it. OMG that was sloooooowwww.
haha yes it is a little slow I've added this to the end of the time stamp in the description 08:55 What do I really think?
Funny how the design goal of this function probably is to maintain ease of mind of the owner that has to park this *massive* car in a busy situation with lots of other cars and impatient pedestrians around, while at the same time it pisses more people off when it’s used in such situations, because it behaves so slow and awkward.
it is a great tech demo for sure and You're totally right as I've used it only a hand full of time and that was to make this video :)
I like it!
if you go over the line in some car parks then you are incorrectly parked in the lines and can be fined by the car parking company.
it should be looking for lines other cars can do it and faster and much better
i would be very worried about letting the car park if that's how long it takes
If i did use it and it goes over the line i would just repark then again i dont think i would use it ever again haha
Tried this yesterday, its OK but damn it's slow. The next time someone bangs on about autonomous cars remember any car capable of parking is like this and you have to keep aware. Full self driving is soo.... far off. Good video James, have you had the sensor/camera warnings bug pop up on screen yet while out and about?
totally agree it's slooow. I've not had any sensor or camera warning bug pop up yet.
Great but nothing beats the Tesla. I have tried both but the Tesla one is spot on
I've not tried Tesla self parking but safe to say this video was the last time I used the system 😆
Good that you showed this but bay parking is really poor, parallel looks ok. In both instances I reckon a half competent driver would do a more accurate and quicker job. Not for me thanks 😊
agreed if this was one of us making a parking tutorial it wouldn't be a 9 min long video hahaha
@@LemonTeaLeaf love your content !

It takes to loong time. I can do the same in a few seconds

It was throwing in with the Project 45 and it would have been rude not to test it. :)
Don’t understand why you say sorry James, as James did not advertise this feature, he even said it’s slow
Somewhat unimpressive - I can reverse park in one move 95% of the time! I don't think I'll be using this function 😀
Thats why i was laughing when it was on it's 5th point turn for the reverse parking.
We have this on the GV 70. Try it yes. But don’t trust it.
a very stupid parking assistant who does a lot of unnecessary maneuvers, is extremely slow .... for how new this car is, it's a big disappointment .... will hyundai somehow update this system?
Thanks. Not as good as Chinese Car Bjorn demonstrated. Not very practical with other cars driving around. Cheers.
I'll need to check that video out, the Chinese cars are coming along in leeps and bounds and they have some nice design and tech in them.
What a complete bodge job that was. Hyundai need to re programme this feature. Imagine a queue of cars waiting for the car to sort itself out, whats the point of having to walk beside it? You may as well be sitting inside ! Clearly trying to show off but Hyundai have completely failed here.
The parking assist isn’t bad 😂😂 be honest it’s shit.
I hope software updates speed it up. Maybe the programmer was a woman 😜
Shane tell us what you really think 😂 let just say i wont be relying on it very often 😄
It parks like a woman. :)
